Well, we have come to the point where the rubber meets the road. We all have our opinions or gut feelings about what is going to happen in this election. Here is your chance to carve your opinions into stone, or at least, into FR's data base. Tomorrow, or whenever we find out the results, wouldn't it be nice to have the whole world know that you nailed it on the head?

I've picked ten races, just to make the post election math easier. Wanna play?

Hutchinson (R) - Pryor (D) Senate in Arkansas
Chambliss (R) - Cleland (D) Senate in Georgia
Coleman (R) - Mondale (D) Senate in Minnesota
Talent (R) - Carnahan (D) Senate in Missouri
Sununu (R) - Shaheen (D) Senate in New Hampshire
Dole (R) - Bowles(D) Senate in North Carolina
Thune (R) - Johnson (D) Senate in South Dakota
Simon (R) - Davis (D) Governor of California
Bush (R) - McBride (D) Governor of Florida
Ehrlich (R - Townsend (D) Governor of Maryland

OK..Ten races...how many will you get right?

No prizes in this FR contest except the bragging rights and a time/date stamp on your post url, to prove your prognostication prowess!

My picks in bold. Heading to the poll at 7 when they open here in Appleton, WI, where, unfortunately, it appears the state will elect Jim Doyle (D) to the governorship. I don't want to hear the grumblimg when Doyle and his cohorts move us up from #3 on the "most taxed state list" to #2 or #1.

Hutchinson (R) - Pryor (D) Senate in Arkansas
Chambliss (R) - Cleland (D) Senate in Georgia
Coleman (R) - Mondale (D) Senate in Minnesota
Talent (R) - Carnahan (D) Senate in Missouri
Sununu (R) - Shaheen (D) Senate in New Hampshire
Dole (R) - Bowles(D) Senate in North Carolina
Thune (R) - Johnson (D) Senate in South Dakota
Simon (R) - Davis (D) Governor of California
Bush (R) - McBride (D) Governor of Florida
Ehrlich (R) - Townsend (D) Governor of Maryland

Nothing will change. The ratio will remain the same. The Republicans and Democrats always split power "under the table". It's all fixed. Why do you think Jeffords switched? To keep everything balanced.

Hey, I haven't a clue who half these guys are! *L*
Guess I've no chance of winning this contest. Unless of course I used the tried and tested 'pin stickers guide to picking winners of political horseraces' :-)

For those of you out there who are not from Maryland ..... Ehrlich will win today, no question. The only question here is how bad the voter fraud will be. In 1994, there were 6,000 more votes than there were signatures on the voter cards in Baltimore alone. The margin for Parris Glendening (D) over Ellen Sauerbrey (R) was only 5,000 ... so you can do the math. I think this time Ehrlich has enough to overcome this. Maryland will finally have a Republican Governor .... first since 1966!!!

I like your predictions, and agree with every one of them, and I'm off to vote now (and make some get out the vote phone calls). See everyone tonight.

oooops.....I looked but didn't search. My bad. Well, the two really are different aren't they? I was looking for something a bit more structured, specific, with perameters
that could be compared..designated races. Sorry.

The surprise story of the election will be the much stronger than expected Republican showing in governor races throughout the nation. Two weeks ago the Dems were predicted to make a big pick up in this category. Now it appears that the Republicans have a fighting shot at winning several states (Illinois, Oregon) that were not even considered to be in play.

9 for 10 with an outside chance in Ark.

We pick up a net of 3 Senators and 10 in Congress.

I have one prediction; as long as there is Motor Voter and no ID required, there will be massive vote fraud!

Here are my 10 picks...I refuse to give in to pessimism so these are all projected GOP victories:

Romney (MA gubernatorial)

Sununu (NH senate)

Coleman (MN senate)

Thume (SD senate)

Chambliss (GA senate)

Dole (NC senate)

Allard (CO senate)

Talent (MO senate)

Golisano - 2nd place (NY gubernatorial)

Simon (CA gubernatorial)

Ok, so I'm really going out on a limb with Golisano coming in second (and relegating the 'Rats to third). But I think it can happen! And Golisano coming in second is going to be a real victory for the GOP as the 'Rats will be on the third line of the ballot at the next election.

BTW, on my way to work this morning, the turnout seems heavy here in Massachusetts. A heated gubernatorial race has ignited a lot of excitement around here. I think the gubernatorial stakes are even higher here than in California due to the fact that the socialist/'rats have 85% of the seat in the state house. With socialist Shannon O'Brien as governor, we might as well be a banana republic. Go Mitt! You are our last GOP hope in Massachusetts.

Only Republican winners from your list:
Talent
Sununu
Bush

Allard in Colorado also loses.
GW's shift of priorities to the war on Iraq
without convincing the American voters
is blamed for the weak Republican support.

I'd feel a whole lot better tomorrow if I was completely wrong!

I predict Coleman wins by a touchdown because Mondale's shoulder is suspect and he can't through the ten yard out.
