As a freshman at the University of Minnesota, I've witnessed first-hand just how political America's college campuses can be. Since I arrived here two months ago I cannot count how many times I have been bombarded with politcal trash from the left, right, and center.
Today being Election Day, though, has made it the most intense yet. Here are my observations:
Number of people I've seen encouraging people to vote while endorsing Mondale/Moe (Minnesota's Democratic candidates for Senator and Governer, respectably): 7
Number of people I've seen encouraging people to vote while endorsing Coleman: 0
Number of pro-Mondale or pro-Moe slogans I've seen written on the sidewalk, on walls, etc: far too many to count
Number of pro-Coleman slogans I've seen written on the sidewalk, on walls, etc: 0
Number of Minnesota Democrats representatives who've knocked on my door: 2
Number of Minnesota Republican representatives who've knocked on my door: 0
Number of Democrat/Green candidate pamphlets I've received: 4
Number of Republican/Libertarian candidate pamphlets I've received: 0
Number of people I've seen wearing Wellstone or Mondale/Moe stickers, buttons, etc: far too many to count
Number of people I've seen wearing Coleman or Republican-related stickers, buttons, etc: 0
Who says leftists haven't taken over our colleges?

As a freshman at the University of Minnesota, I've witnessed first-hand just how

LOL!
When my brother finished his bachelor's degree and applied to graduate schools,
he put "Member of Student Democrats" on his C.V.
He said he didn't want to end up with some degree advisor in graduate school who
was a "radical Republican".
After he was on the St. Paul campus for a couple of weeks, he called me and said...
"For all my years in Oklahoma, I was a radical leftist Democrat...but now I've found
out that I'm really a Republican!"
Hang in there. My brother met his wife on the St. Paul campus...she came there from
UW-Madison.
But it was a match made in political heaven...she has grown to hate the
political boot-camp which is called UW-Madison...

Who says leftists haven't taken over our colleges? The only people who say this are people who are blind or whose living depends on middle class moms and dads sending their mush-skulled kids to be indoctrinated.
BTW, here's a Minnesota-related humor thread.

When I was attended the University of MN I was enrolled in the Institute of Technology (IT) school. Being in the tech school I was hoping to avoid most of the leftist political spin that is pervasive everywhere else on that campus.
I was wrong. I had an IT physics professor who asserted that the laws of physics conclusively proved the correctness of Marxism. I had an IT History of Science (HSCI) professor who spent most of the quarter explaining how the 'black' Eqyptians invented everything.

zapiks44, Where did you vote yesterday. I was a poll challenger at ward 2 precinct 3. One of the UMN students polling places. There were 609 same day registrations.
There where 1551 votes cast on site, Mondale 1085 and Coleman 415. All things considered Norm did pretty good for the location.

Hook up with the College Republicans at the UofM. You'd be surprised to see how many of the ROTC cadets are members of the CRs. They're a good group.
Whatever you do, don't be like Aric Nissen (look him up in the Daily's website), a comtemporary of mine who wore his AROTC uniform in PUBLIC while decrying ROTC's anti-gay policy. We looked at him as an idiot. Let's say that he...um, got his due -- he faced our Ranger Challenge Team captain for a couple of rounds one morning (when we had boxing as our PT workout).

Aric Nissen...
First things first...what kind of name is Aric? Sounds Euphorian to me! Also, I did a Google search for him listed in the Daily and found about 100 stories related to him...mostly about his unsuccessful runs for a variety of office, usually centering on the State Legislature.
Just reading the articles, I get the impression that he is your typical RAT, listing concerns of the people as a plus, despite being exclusionary against certain groups.
The other impression I got is that he is one of those people who would win at any cost...considering the accounts of placing stickers on people's chests (probably against their will) and giving orations on campus buses.
One particularly interesting article is at
http://www.mndaily.com/daily/1996/02/28/editorial_opinions/l0228.lett/
which is the letters to the editor page, but the letters after the Nissen letter are interesting...they basically slam Rush's listeners as brainwashed and stupid...they also say that listeners are the ones who should take the advice and not do what celebrities say...It's pretty weird.

The U has always been a liberal campus....I go to the bars in Seven Corners, but that is as close as I will go to the campus.
Get your degree and get out of there as fast as you can.

Why submerge them in liberal propaganda 24/7?Why not try to fight the liberal propaganda? I know of a good way! It's right here!
The only problem is spreading the word about FR....College Republicans are only a tiny part of the equation....Just a thought

Did you know the Minnesota Daily endorsed Libertarian Harry Browne for president in 2002?
I got a big laugh out of that!

Of course I meant 2000, NOT 2002!

And this year, they endorsed Penny for Gov.
Apparently this year's editorial board thinks that we should be paying for abortions around the world...with their editorial entitled "Bush Mistakenly rejects population accord" referring to the UN's Population control measures.
They move further to the left every day, it seems.........

I've been thinking about joining the CR for quite some time, but I've been too occupied with my classes and looking for a job to get to it. I'm doing very well, though. Haven't gotten anything lower than a B+ yet!
I'm also thinking of joining a branch of the ROTC. I'm majoring in Computer Science, so they could use some of my skills.
However, right now my priorities are doing well in my classes and finding a job. I don't think that's going to change for a while.
Thanks to everyone for giving me advice on how to survive here!
