Bush extends Ramadan greetings
Kuala Lumpur, Nov 7, IRNA -- US President George W. Bush has sent greetings to Muslims in the United States and around the world who observe the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
He also thanked Muslim nations for their "friendship and support in the war against terrorism".
In an unprecedented move, the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur here issued a statement quoting him as saying that America remained committed to freedom, justice and opportunity for all people.
Bush said Islam was a peace-loving faith practised by more than a billion people, including millions of Americans.
"These proud citizens contribute to the diversity that makes our country strong, and the United States is grateful for the friendship and support of many Muslim nations that are vital partners in the global coalition to fight against terrorism," he added.
Bush said the Quran taught that Ramadan was a time for fasting, prayer, worship and contemplation.
He said Muslims observed the month by renewing their dedication to caring for those in need, doing good deeds and also by strengthening ties with their family and communities.
"These actions reflect many of the values that Muslims share with people of other faiths across our nation and around the world, including that of courage, compassion and service," said Bush.
He added that the US would continue to work for a future of peace, tolerance and understanding during the season of reverence and examination.
After all, we don't burn witches or stone adulterers any more, despite the yearnings of a few here at FR.
I trust President Bush to lead us through this morass of needing to kill Muslims out to kill us and bomb our buildings while being Christian toward Muslims that are willing to let us live and let live.
I think the Iraqi people could do superbly without their little dick-tater, and the middle east does have a pretty interesting history. That said it does not mean I am not suspicious of those of middle eastern descent(SP) at this time (as my friend Muhammud can attest to).
I won't judge a whole people by those who mis-lead them, but I will be careful and alert. Some are condeming the terrorist strikes very harshly, but it is very difficult to find them - and that is troublesome. We have not only leaders to overthrow, but a mindset (much like the gays would argue they had to overcome a mindset against them to achieve safety and security, sad thing though is like NOW they kept pushing and now the pendulum may swing the other way....).
Oh well, sorry for ranting, must be the coffee :) Thanks for the comments!
No, it's a feeble-minded thing.
You should know, you are the expert.
Of course, the great majority of Muslims are peaceful -- so what?

Here is what arabic.com said about this event:
Bush hails Islam as a religion of charity, compassion, peace
Regional-USA, Religion, 11/9/2002
US President, George Bush, has hailed Islam as a religion of charity, compassion, and peace that "Ebrings, he said, hope and comfort to more than a billion people around the world."
In remarks he made Thursday evening during an Iftar (fast-breaking meal) he hosted at the White house in honor of the ambassadors of Islamic countries accredited to Washington, President Bush said Islam "has made brothers and sisters of every race. It has given birth to a rich culture of learning and literature and science."
The US President who was hosting the second White House Iftar of his Administration said God's word revealed in the holy Koran to the prophet Mohammed inspires faithful Muslims to lead lives of honesty and integrity and compassion.
President Bush stated further that in hosting this Iftar, he sends a message to all Muslim nations to tell them "America treasures your friendship. America honors your faith."
The message is also addressed to all Americans to tell them that the United States is waging a war on a radical network of terrorists, not on a religion and not on a civilization, said the US President, calling his co-citizens to live up to the principles they defend and mainly the principle of tolerance to which they are most deeply committed.
President Bush also called for dialogue and for building bridges of mutual trust and understanding on the occasion of the month of Ramadan and of upcomimg holiday seasons marked by other revealed religions.
