Snellings owns property in the 400 block of East Capitol Street, where he's building a new house for the family. But recently, the property was among several hundred listed for auction by the city's Office of Tax and Revenue. The reason: nonpayment of property taxes. As of July 16, Snellings owed $1,410 for last year's property taxes, according to Office of Tax and Revenue records, and sources say he hasn't yet paid $1,063 due for the first half of 2001. Last week—surprise!—his property was purchased at the tax auction by Abbott Development Group. Now Snellings must settle his tax bill plus a penalty to keep the site.

Seems like she was implying "You're going to lose this election and then your political career will be over." However it seems like quite a wild stretch to read this as a threat of bodily harm.

Even if Mary meant what you say, she has at the very least shown herself to be an arrogant, mean-spirited lowlife by making such a remark. And remember that since 911, what used to be treated as idle threats are now taken seriously. Ms. Landrieu needs to learn to control her liberal, mean-spirited mouth.

I have a plan for Suzie...I think she should apologize for 'overreacting' to Mary's statement. Tensions were high because of the debate and all of the national attention, and Mary's comment startled her, but she is sure Mary didn't mean anything threatening by it, so we should just put it behind us and go on with the campaign. Then she should say nothing else.

This would put Suzie miles above Mary in the 'class' department, it would remind everyone of the threatening nature of the remark, and it would confuse the heck out of the Dem's who are no doubt trying to formulate some kind of spin for the poo-poo that's about to hit the fan tomorrow.

It makes me giggle just to think about what must be going on behind the scenes at Landrieu central tonight. O2

I'm sure it WAS a real threat, but now it is public, and that in itself weakens it. What is important here is how Suzie reacts to the attention that is going to be focused on her for at least a short time. I like my plan best (but I AM a bit biased), or the 'say nothing at all' plan.
Anyway, Suzie isn't the only one who has to worry about her health, lately it seems democrats in close races need to be very careful, too.

I totally agree. Suzie should play the part of the statesman and stay above the fray. The media and talk radio can go with the commentary on Mary's arrogant, mean-spirited statement.
