Rush On His Program Just Called Robert Byrd 'Sheets' On Air... ROTFLOL!!

Rush said that Robert Byrd when he was in Congress was nicknamed 'Sheets' (a name that probably made his ears burn) by Old House Speaker Tip O'Neill back when when Chris Matthews was working for him.

A new FR classic nickname?

I remember there was a song in the 80s called "Dancing In The Sheets."

Just sent an e-mail with the following in the subject line -- Hey, Sheets!! Whassup???

Repeated in body of e-mail. Nothing else. Short, sweet and to the point.

No, I am NOT suggesting this, but.....

Rush was hysterical today. It seemed as if he inserted "And, Trent Lott still has not resigned" in every story. ROFLMAO

Robert Byrd still is in Congress. I wonder if anybody calls him that now.

When O'Neill was making those remarks, it was long past the time one could joke about such a thing in public. But amongst the Good Ol' Boys, it was just light amusement.

Close... Martha (Reeves) and the Vandellas, 1964.

David Bowie & Mick Jagger rerecorded it in 1985.

That would have been when Byrd was Senate Majority Leader.

Klintoon still has the funniest nickname - "The Great Stainmaker", courtesy of Rush's inspiration, Bob Grant.

Another thing that was really funny on Rush's today were the "messages" that were left on Lott's answering machine, Al Gore, Tom Daschle, Jesse Jackson and Byrd. The message that was left by Byrd went something like this:

Sen. Lott, what you said at Strom Thurmond's birthday offended both the white - bleeps (insert N word) and the black - bleeps and you need to apologize. LOL.

Tip O'Neill was the quintessential, red-faced Irish drunk. Come to think of it, so is Teddy "I'll drive" Kennedy...

Shalamar
Dancing In The Sheets

Dancin’ in the sheets
Dancin’ in the sheets

(Verse 1)
I caught you smilin', I know I’ve seen you here before
How come you’re hidin’, hey, don’t you wanna hit the floor
The place is crowded or maybe you don’t like the beat
I got a two-track playin' in my head
So let me take you somewhere else instead

Dancin’ in the sheets
Dancin’ in the sheets

(Hook)
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I wanna take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off your feet
You and me, we should be dancin’ in the sheets

Dancin’ in the sheets

(Verse 2)
We got the rhythm, we got the music on our side
If we go with ‘em, I’ll bet we’ll have a wonderful ride, oh, oh
Your hands are cold, so maybe we could make some heat
Love is always born on a chance
So wrap around me and, baby, let’s dance

Dancin’ in the sheets
Dancin’ in the sheets

(Hook)
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I wanna take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off your feet
You and me, we should be dancin’ in the sheets

Dancin’ in the sheets

(Interlude/Instrumental)

(Hook)
Grab your coat and wave goodbye to your friends
I wanna take you where the night never ends
I feel the need to sweep you off your feet
You and me, we should be dancin’ in the sheets

(Repeat)
Dancin’ in the sheets

I could possibly stand corrected...

According to Google there are a couple of lyrics pages listing a "Dancing in the Sheets" by someone called Shalamar on the Footloose Soundtrack (1984), but when I checked the Soundtrack, it had Shalamar singing "Dancing in the Streets. Hmmm?

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?
