Words can't describe the out in left field attitude of this woman.

The last national figure segregationist I remember is Louis Farrakan that wants to partiion areas of this country for Blacks only. He is definately not claimed by the GOP.

Given the Republican Party's rich tradition of cozying up to bigots,...

Cythia, if this was true, according to your article you'd be a Republican.

segregationists, Confederate sympathizers, anti-immigrationists and other mossbacks who still resent the civil rights movement.

Let's break this up one by one.
Segregation: Name a Republican who supports this.
Confederate sympathizers: There are multiple schools of thought about the Confederacy. One can theoretically support the idea of the Confederacy and not be a racist.
anti-immigrationists: So Comrade Cynthia, you want our borders overrun with illegals and terrorists?

I truly hope our "friends" on the left keep beating & hammering & harping on this for all it's worth...

1- for every alleged racist Republican, you can point out 3 or 4 or more Democrats who fill the bill, too.
2- the Dems already have a lock on 87-97% of the black vote... a 12% minority in this country. Getting a 100% out to vote will matter in only the tightest races.
3- it will prompt a reconsideration of that all-purpose slander "racist," and more people will see it for the dishonest fraud that it is.
4- it will prompt a backlash... I can see it building already.

Have at it, folks... the world is watching.

And, of course, Cynthia ignores the fact that Dem. Senator Byrd was a member of the KKK.

The simple fact is that the modern Republican Party has built a Southern power base by accommodating racists.

As with all leftist propaganda there is an element of truth to what they spew. What she of course fails to mention is that they were mildly cozying up to racist democrats in the south about forty years ago to help break the straggle hold the Democrats had in the south.

The attempt to eliminate Lott has many elements of
what Justice Thomas called a "high-tech lynching."
The CBC is holding the rope and the media is beating
the drum.

The heart is desperately wicked (include racist) in
all of us to more or less a degree, like other vices.
It is as hard for white southerns to get over racism
as it is for blacks to expel the psychology of inferiority.

The Republicans have rejected racism. Senator Lott has
repudiated it, calling it morally wrong (partly as a
reminder to himself). If some Republicans want to
choose another leader (I would prefer someone else), let
them pick another venue.

Why in the world don’t the Republicans fire back, and site the long Rat’s history of cozying up to, and being communists? All the commies wanted were to conquer America from within.

The overreach of the Left is well underway.

Yes, it's a hard call on what the GOP response to this should be. Do they...

1. Allow the most rabid members of the left (like Tucker) continue to be the face of the Democrat Party, or

2. Enjoin the debate and refute the charges as a long term, formal strategy.

Right after the Lott gaffe, I leaned toward 2.

But after observing the feeding frenzy of the GOP haters, I think 1. might be the way to go. Let them foam at the mouth. In painting the whole south with the brush of racism, they'll drive every single white person down there to the GOP.

Cynthia Tucker's wrong to tar and feather all conservatives as racists. In the rarerified circles in which she travels I bet she hasn't met a conservative worthy of the name. Segregationists? I'm hard pressed to think of a Southern Republican who is one aside from the dubious exception of Lott. Neo-confederates?? The news must have slipped by Ms. Tucker there are a number of black neo-confederates and one in fact is walking all over the South with the much maligned Confederate Battle Flag in hand. Immigration? Most Americans want more, not fewer restrictions on immigration and not all of the are white. No thoughtful person in America claims that racism has been eliminated. But in the 50 years since the civil rights movement's hey-day, its virtually impossible to respectfully advocate, much less than defend racism in America. The fact more conservatives than liberals denounced Lott's statement should have been taken by Tucker as a sign of just how far America's come in relations between the races. Although we still have a ways to go, you think she would be heartened by all the changes that have occured since the 60s. Some people are so wrapped up in their own prejudices that they won't or can't see what's in front of their eyes and its just too bad Tucker is so wrapped up in the comfortable conservative = racism syllogism that she can't see today's Party Of Lincoln for the open and tolerant party that it has truly become.

Like this article? Thank Trent Lott for it. Without his blurt, this article wouldn't have been written, at least not at this critical juncture, and maybe not for a long time, while the bigotted author waited for another Republican to make an incriminating statement.

Is she a lying sack of hypocrite sh&t? Of course she is.

But the terrain is what it is, and we all know it. Too bad our dickhead SML didn't have the sense to remember where the hell he was, what decade it was, and who he was, and why it mattered what he blurted out.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Boy, I couldn't see this coming.

Naturally, there is no mention of the Democratic Party's rich tradition of giving a place by the fire to rabid racists.

In fact, they have two of the old geezers in the Senate right now (Byrd, Hollings).

Perhaps Cynthia is saving that for next week.

Oh, it might still have been written. Tucker does not need an excuse to drag Republicans through the mud or paint with a broad brush.

But thanks to Lott, it has a tiny patina of plausibility.

Yep, you're exactly right buzzard. My first reaction to leftist hit pieces like this is always anger at the writer. Now my next impulse is cursing Lott!

The AJC is a rag and Tucker its most soiled fiber. We could play "guilt by association" with Democrats all day long too. How many racists who have publicly spewed ethnic slurs have they coddled (Jackson, Byrd, Sharpton, Clintons, etc.)

Besides, the truth is, politicians of both sides are willing to court the most strident left or right wingers to get their vote. They usually try to do it under the radar screen - they want and need their vote, they just don't want it getting out. We just don't hear much about all the commies, socialists, racists, and terrorists that Democrats shmooze with.
