He's going to say there's nothing we can do because "our military can barely fight one enemy with success".

Now on this we can agree. My guess is that "we don't have enough decent officers, the military is full of perfumed princes, that the administration doesn't understand combat, that we don't have enough infantry, yada, yada, yada...."

He called for Carter to go neogotiate with the North Koreans and just called for the withdrawal from South Korea.

I'm beginning to question this man's sanity.

High point: "The Koreans are unpredictable. That's why they call them the Irish of the Orient."

Low point: "Calling Jimmy Carter!"

He actually said call in Carter to keep the Koreans busy with a carrot while we pull our boys out of the beaten zone and then out of Korea entirely.

I like that plan.

That plan sucks a$$ and reeks of moral and national cowardice. Thousands would die in the ensuing Korean War II.

Better plan, glass North Korea.

Then what? We leave the South Koreans defenseless?? Now that would be a memorable point in history for the U.S.

I am all for it. He is often presented as the MILITARY side, but if ever there was a defeatist, morale-busting SOB, it is Hackworth.

And I do not use strong language lightly.

So do I. We are in a very dangerous position in South Korea. We have enough forces deployed there to suffer a lot of casualties, but not enough to turn the tide against a DPRK onslaught. Defense of the Korean peninsula would require immediate and massive reinforcement, which would not be possible if an attack came while we were fully engaged in Southwest Asia. We would have to resort to nuclear weapons.

Making matters worse is that the South Koreans don't think they need us anymore, and they don't want us there. So I agree with Hackworth -- if we can't adequately defend South Korea or our own troops deployed there, we should pull out and let the Koreans settle their own affairs.

The problem with that plan is that it involves Jimmy Carter. If you want to carry out a delicate stalling plan, don't use an idiot as your point man.

It's damn time we started using some of the weapons we have in our National Arsenal. When we turn some of these despotic nations into glass sculptures and show the rest of the world that harming an American will cause massive death and destruction, civilization will be better off.

With a sadistically cheerful attitude, Ratner responded to Butner...

Butner Q: What do you hope happens [with the war in Iraq]

Ratner A: "I hope he[Bush] messes it up, so he isn't re-elected.

Butner Amazed Q: What!...

Ratner A: Begins weak back peddaling effort...

Ratner is a traitor bitch...someone get the transcript of this...

...but if ever there was a defeatist, morale-busting SOB, it is Hackworth.

If you want to see a defeatist, morale-busting SOB, it will be the politician who lets us get into a position to lose a major battle. For the moment, North Korea has caught us with our pants down in Southwest Asia, lacking the the available forces and strategic mobility to back up our commitment to the defense of South Korea. A very bad situation has developed, and the pucker factor at the Pentagon and at Pacific Command is about 9.99 right now. Criticizing Hackworth isn't doing a thing to reinforce the 2nd Infantry Division...

"Nothing like letting all those American's that died over South Korea go to waste huh?"

So for the rest of our history we have to defend Egypt, because our boys once fought there?

Let's get out of S. Korea, since they don't want us there anyway and pursue a different track to xxx out N. Korea's nuke weapons program.

Is there any reason why the S Koreans cant protect themselves from N Korea??? Cant they shoot guns? Howitzers? Mortars? Is there something about the S Koreans that make them completely dependent on the USA?

We don't need forces in Southwest Asia! Apparently you've never seen what a nuclear sub parked off the coast of North Korea can do! Hey Kim, fire your 1 or 2 nuke dongs (if they get off the ground) Then see what one nuke missle launched from a sub will do! Bye bye North Korea!
