As for men, they need "to understand if they meet a good woman, they should marry her and have children with her."

Wow! That sounds so easy!

The problem is that many single women have no real desire to settle down and have children. I have literally heard "I am too selfish to have children." I absolutely love American women: they are funny, beautiful, and engaging. They just are inappropriate as wives.

Yeah, I'm pumped! Can't wait to "take what I can get" so I can "fit in with a contemporary woman's timetable."

My question is where are all the rational, intelligent, conservative gals? I sure don't want to marry some liberal bliss ninny who worships Oprah and thinks Bill Clinton was a swell president. Maybe we could clone Ann Coulter :)

****As for churches, "They'd be great places if men ever flocked to them," but they don't. *****

****Many people agree, such as the Rev. Brett Fuller, pastor of Grace Covenant Church in Herndon. "I don't know what's wrong with men today," he said in a recent sermon. "Maybe I found the finest woman on the planet [to marry]. But I know there are other daughters of Eve who are worthy of marriage. I don't know what you single men are waiting for. "You waiting for the perfect woman? The right one with the right skin complexion, the right height, the right voice intonation, the right job? When that person comes, God loves that person too much to give her to you. "You better take what you can get," he said to laughter from the congregation. "You're getting too old. Listen: 45-, 50-, 60-year-old single men are strange human beings after a little bit. Yes they are, yes they are. You better hurry up and get on with it."

Gee i wonder why men dont wanna go to church!

About one-third of the total adult population — some 77 million Americans aged 20 and over — are unmarried. Forty-seven million of them (26 million men and 21 million women) have never married.

And that's why we see a never-ending stream of smarmy articles bemoaning the inability of talented, attractive and successful men to find adequate wives, and wondering what deep personality flaws prevent modern women from marrying when men find it convenient.

Let's just summarize this as, I am an insane whack job.

"You better take what you can get," he said to laughter from the congregation. "You're getting too old. Listen: 45-, 50-, 60-year-old single men are strange human beings after a little bit. Yes they are, yes they are. You better hurry up and get on with it."

American men are on a marriage strike.

We've figured out that the court system in this country makes marriage an extremely, extremely dangerous option for men. If your wife, entirely on her own, decides she's tired of the marriage, she will get custody of the kids and 70-80% of your earnings (imputed income!?!). And there is nothing whatsoever the man can do about it.

Nyet!

They're married and have 6 kids!

Can I introduce you to a cousin of mine in her 20's? She's not conservative, but she could adapt!

I agree with this article. My husband and I got married 13 years ago at age 23. No, we hadn't done all the mandated 'single' things to do- establish career, travel, live together, have a 3 year engagement, etc... We were just starting out after college and had faith that we would be successful- together. That is what has made our marriage so rich- memories of lean times and our tiny apartment, our first jobs, house, etc... We did it all together and are the stronger for it. Now no one wants to get married until both partners are established and secure. By then, someone has to dismantle their life and 'sacrifice' to accomadate the other, be it job or moving. When you find the right one, just get on with your lives- TOGETHER.

I saw several of my college friends go through this heartbreak. They were planning to marry their college sweethearts, but felt they had time and wanted to be single. they each figured the other would still be there 5 years later after living their exciting single life and establishing careers. Well, guess what happened. They took jobs in different cities, grew apart and now are still single and regret not marrying those people. Now in their late thirties, their hopes of finding someone and having a family gets dimmer and more desperate every day. All for a few years of single 'fun'.

If Ms. Whitehead is mystified by why men don't want to get married, I will clarify the matter for her.
Men are reluctant to marry, or remarry, because they know that they will likely lose at least half, and possibly all, the assets they have accumulated over many years if divorce occurs. They will also lose custody of their children, and will seldom be permitted to see them. Of course, they will still have to pay child support in financially crippling amounts for many years, and are liable to be imprisoned if they fail to pay.
Meantime, the ex-wife is free to marry, or shack up with, her next stud who will then become the children's new "daddy." Physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse frequently follows.
In some states, the ex-husband will be socked with alimony in addition to the above.
Even if divorce does not occur, the married man is subjected to constant monitoring and control of where he goes, what he does, and who he does it with, and in general, how he lives his life.
For your next book, Ms. Whitehead, try talking to more men and you may solve the riddle of why there are so many single women.

I wrote a concise analysis of the dangers for men in modern marriage, but I really think I should just say,
Yeah, right.

"women need to insist on a new courtship system "that respects a woman's biological and time clocks," she says.

I have a feeling all this insisting is a big part of the problem.

They're in the process of being homeschooled. Just be patient for another ten years! ;-)

Seriously, there are a bunch of us who would rather rock a sweet baby to sleep than attend a power lunch. The problem is, we're conflicted. Society tells us that we aren't worth spit if we don't earn money and it takes alot of soul searching to see the lie for what it is.

The corrupt divorce and family court system is responsible for the destruction of marraige. Meen have essentially no real rights or justice in these evil legal environments. Men would be well advised to co-habitate, have children, be good dads, but NEVER MARRY!

Yep.. Thanks to current divorce laws, it makes little sense for a single man to get married.

Furthermore, for many American men, a divorce would amount to a literal death sentence if she got a restraining order (SOP in many states even without any violence). Thanks to illegal federal dictates, a restraining order means no guns.

Since many of us will refuse to surrender our guns, the potential for a deadly standoff exists.

Personally, I'm not opposed to the idea of marriage. If the right woman comes along, I'd go for it. Otherwise, I'm much better off earning money for myself. Once you get some money, you'll get the women.
