Cupertino man arrested for selling missile system technology to China

A Cupertino man was arrested Friday on charges he illegally exported "dual use" technology to the People's Republic of China that could be used in missile guidance systems.

Qing Chang Jiang, also known as Frank Jiang, appeared in a San Jose federal court on charges he sold technology to a company in China that has both commercial and military applications.

The devices in question are microwave amplifiers, sometimes used in commercial enterprise but also employed in the design of missile guidance systems.

The company where the amplifiers were delivered also has the same address as an entity of the People's Republic of China known as "The 54th Research Institute."

Qing was being held without bail based on the prosecutions contention that he poses a danger to his community and is a flight risk. Chief Magistrate Judge Patricia V. Trumbull sat a detention hearing for Jan. 16.

Qing faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

The Clintons traded classified information to communist China for campaign contributions-I guess that's different somehow.

"Cupertino man arrested for selling missile system technology to China ... Qing Chang Jiang, also known as Frank Jiang ..."

One more example proving that "Diversity Works." Hey, a British or Irish immigrant would have been just as likely to sell the technology to our 21st century enemy as a Chinese immigrant. (/sarcasm off)

The transfer of technology can be slowed but not stopped. In fact, as the infrastructure improves in these developing countries, many companies will move their operations, taking their technology with them (and the knowledge to recreate a lot of technology).

He made a big mistake. He should have formed a company, donated heavily to Democrat politicians and gotten his get out of jail free card. Since he didn't he will have to face the consequences while all of the others who transferred technology to China go free.

One could build the best possible defenses against intercontinental ballistic missiles and miss that possibility. I think as long as there are countries out there -- and there are -- who are as clearly determined as they are and they evidence it among other things, I mentioned the amount of resources they devote to being able to attack us. We need to be thinking ahead of them. We need to be thinking out of the box. We need to remember that there was a time when we said, I believe it was March of 1962, that it was inconceivable the Soviet Union would put missiles in Cuba.
