Respectfully, wrong, Peggy. Abortions are not performed on children. They are committed.

Actually she IS right. Abortion is a medical procedure that is PERFORMED on a woman, but in doing so, the murder of a baby is COMMITTED. Most folks going through it realize the first part, and try not to think about the second part. The problem is, they can't run away from what they've done, and post abortion syndrome affects not only the woman who presented her baby to be killed, but other family members who encouraged or forced the decision.

it should have been done politically, not judicially. That it was not, that a huge and radical change in law was forced on the entire country by black-robed fiat, caused avoidable and continuing unrest. It has contributed more than any decision in my lifetime to the national breakdown of faith in our institutions.

Ping!

WOW! What a poster ppaul, and so very true! Planned Parenthood has certainly targeted Blacks and Hispanics by setting up clinics in areas of towns heavily populated by the poor which tend to be minority areas. I don't know why there aren't more black leaders who are willing to stand up and say this. I guess they are concerned their sources of funding will disappear!

As far as Jewish women are concerned, it must be largely Reform Jews having abortions, because Orthodox women still consider the possibility that they could be the 'woman of the Promise', mentioned in the Old Testament, and could be carrying the Messiah.

Do you you know on what basis these informed consent laws were struck down and what courts were involved? I would like to read the decisions and understand how they fabricated the unconstitutional basis.

Please forgive me; the one I remember the most clearly was a case that came up when I was in high school, around 1975 or so. It was in New York state, a law mandating informed consent (I believe that its intent was to inform potential abortion clients about fetal development; pretty basic stuff). I'm fairly sure it was the SCOTUS that struck it down on the basis that either it "interferes with a woman's right to choose" or it "violates the right to privacy." Every once in a while, I hear or read about another similar law being stricken down, for about the same bogus reasons.

I am very sorry I do not have more concrete information; I do not keep newspaper articles on the subject and I am not a lawyer, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to conduct a legal database search on such a subject.

Decent piece except that in my view Roe is far more morally reprehensible than Dred.

And, on the other side of the coin, whatever happened to "Pro-Life?" Just as the Pro-Abortion crowd has sought to distance THEMSELVES from the "A word," they have tried to push the awkward "Anti-Abortionist" on their opponents. Personally I suspect that this is just one step on the way to the term they would really like to see: "Anti-Women."

I'm watching the NARAL event that was on C-SPAN last night. NARAL must have read our thread, they've renamed themselves NARAL Pro-Choice America. The witch in charge also called for all pro-bortion senators to filibuster any Supreme Court nomineee put forward by President Bush that does not support "choice".

Would someone please get the NY Times editorial piece from today up? I think the title is "The Forgotten Hero." It is about an Abortion Crusader, and it made me want to hurl. I would do it myself, but I am gleefully typing this from the Scarsdale NY Public Library. Scarsdale, home to more Abortionists than any small town in the country, and the Limosine Liberal Capital of the World.
