One of our longtime FReepers in the Kansas City area is requesting prayers of support during a difficult time.
Mercat is facing a critical situation in her life and career, and would appreciate your prayers, support and words of encouragement.
I know how effective the power of prayer can be from the support I received during my surgery last year.

Mercat writes:
Twenty years ago, I started working in a firm with a young lawyer right out of law school. Call him R. I had been practicing for about five years. Over the years, we kept ending up in the same office and in 1991, we moved to our present location. In 1994, we became law partners.
In 1999, another lawyer, three years out of law school, started courting us. He became an associate and then a partner. Call him J. He started taking over. I had been carrying the firm and doing about 65% of the billing and 75% of the management so at first, I was relieved that I could concentrate on my practice. He ended up installing systems which I am convinced now allow him to listen in on my phone and intrude into my computer anytime he wants to.
R had always spent too much money on business travel. J started spending huge sums on equipment and running up debt. I began to complain. I now know that at the end of the year, they decided to kick me out of the firm. Never mind that Im senior partner, top biller, and by far the top rainmaker. Unfortunately, I signed a really stupid partnership contract two years ago and Im stuck. Lots of lessons here.
They have been extremely hostile and devious. In spite of being a trial lawyer, Im very trusting and, as I now know, naive. My friends, family, husband, and clients are all being great. I am finding enormous comfort in my faith. Im moving on and hope to start setting up my new office next week. Two friends are working for me to help in the transition. Please do a major Freeper prayer circle for me. I really rely on this bunch for my news and value the deep faith and community here.
Just to be topically on this board, R and J are hard left liberals. What was I thinking?

Prayers for you Mercat.......
remember God is faithful.....
2 Thessalonians 3
2
And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men, for not everyone has faith.
3
But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
4
We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.
5
May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.(NIV)
As I picked up my Bible to find this scripture I also grapped a great book I've read to get the title for you....
"If you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat" by John Ortberg. It may help in your journey. May God bless you.Stay strong!

For mercat:
O, Lord, bless mercat abundantly!
Expand her territory.
Keep your hand on her,
And keep her from evil.
These things we pray in Jesus' name,
Amen.

Mercat,
Hold your head up high and just think of this as the best thing that could happen to you. I know it's hard to imagine in difficult times such as this, but if these partners are as devious as you say, they will end up cooking their own goose.
To: TroutStalker
I have contact information for another new practice if that type of introduction is needed.
I know lawyers are a strange bunch with their own ethics and "culture", so maybe I can help, maybe not.

Life has many hard lessons. I know I'm still learning them. I too am going through lots of problems at work with reengineering. I think mercats situation mirrors mine. I will send prayers for both of us that the fire we are going through now will only refine the steel in us! Good luck mercat

Oh, Mercat, I'm so sorry to hear all of this. I will absolutely pray for you, and I just told my husband to pray for you too.
Never, ever, beat yourself up for being a loyal and trusting friend. The character flaws were theirs, not yours. It is great to learn lessons from our difficulties -- we all should -- but don't let those difficulties harden and change you. You did absolutely nothing wrong here. Just pick up the pieces, learn the signs of betrayal, but always, ALWAYS, love and trust again. Friends are a gift.

Joining your FReeper family in prayer, Mercat ... and in praise that the Lord has delivered you from circumstances that could only harm you in every way ... go with a glad heart.
