"I believe that we are God's noble experiment." Sen. Chuck (E-cheese) Schumer
C-Span 2 | Feb. 5, 2003

Posted on 02/05/2003 2:03:03 PM PST by Ragtime Cowgirl

Quotes from Chuck Schumer on the floor of the Senate during the past 10 minutes (C-span 2). Working up to a whopper of an excuse for rejecting Miguel Estrada as a judicial candidate.

"For those of us who revere the Constitution and believe in the rule of law...I believe that we are God's noble experiment. The Senate must hold up its end of the bargain. We have a duty to the judiciary, to the Constitution and, yes, to the American people."
"We have an obligation to be vigilant defenders of Constitutional obligation. We must live up to the standards of those who came before us."

God is saving the lightning for later, I guess. Chuckie's accusing us of making personal attacks.

"It's deeply and solemnly necessary to uphold the will of the founding fathers."

Oh, please! Chuckie should read the Constitution again. It would tell him that he is no longer a member of the majority. "Will of the people" and according to the Constitution.

"This goes to the very sacred obligation each of us has when we take that oath of office."

MALDEF, that bastion of Latino Victimhood, has come out against Estrada (shades of the blacks against Thomas).

See today's LAT Op Ed section (it is pointless to post a link -- it's a site that needs registration).

Victimhood politics are by definition exclusionary and thus disqualifies anyone for truly higher judgeships (I have no explanation for the 9th Circuit). Only level-headed people with the ability to reason can make it this far, but level-headed people oppose holding peopledown with victimhood politics.

This this debacle.

I wonder what the rest of the left had to promise MALDEF to get them to go along.

I think Kennedy wasn't planning on speaking, but heard Orrin's passionate defense of Miguel and attack on Bender. Kennedy's now defending Bender.

Why is Kennedy co-chairing the judicial committee?

I don't want to know.

"DC Circuit is one of the most important in the country - second to only the Supreme Court."

Ted mentioned civil rights, enviral law...leftist causes. That explains a lot. How dare Kennedy imply that Estrada wouldn't follow the law...or that President Bush puts special interests first. Kennedy's protecting his labor union power. Did he miss a big leftist special interest group? Ted thinks that the DC court is Dem. territory.

Schumer's lame line implying that he is remotely cognizant of God and His ways/works is comparable to...

...an uptight Northeastern, Liberal, white, millionaire, politician who travels down to South Carolina for a stump speech at a black church and tries to pretend he comprehends the black community.

It just doesnt flow.

I didn't know that the DC Circuit court was the Dems private property. Good!

Freepers, please call your Senators and tell them you support the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the DC Circuit court. Our good guy Senators have been under attack from the borg and appreciate our support - and call the Dems., too! They get all flustered when Republicans rally.

The simple fact is that this is all Chuck has in his bag of crap in order to keep from getting swamped in the press by the Beast.

Aside from his annual "release oil reserves" line, he's got nothing offer. I remember when he was debating D'Amato in 1998 and he said, "I'm a legislator, I like to legislate," which translates into "I like to enforce my view of the Constitution onto the people in the form of written law." D'Amato was railing him so hard on missing so many votes in the House that he missed the chance to expose him.

Living in NY, I hope Rudy decides to take a crack at him in 2004 because he is useless.

But apparently it's just fine to invoke God's name when you're smearing a good man.

Instead of getting mad - with all that's at stake - I'd like to see our Republican Senators smile in response, quickly dispatch these lies/liars and move on.

O.K., I'd love to see Orrin give Teddy a shiner.

Did you know that a hispanic civil rights organization was the oldest in the nation? Orrin is scoring some points today. Lamar Alexander is smiling. Being in the majority does make a difference.

I'm proud of Sen. Hatch today!!! Did you notice every thing he is saying is extemporaneous. Sen Kennedy was speaking from a script prepared by his aides no doubt!

These Dems would be well advised to refrain from uttering "rat farts" during their filibuster.

If one of the Founding Fathers were ever in the presence of Schumer, they would backhand him until his cheeks were as red as his political agenda.

Hispanic congressional caucus issued a protest before Miguel even testified. Didn't even give him the courtesy of a hearing.

"The Democrat Hispanic Congressional Caucus is exactly that - a Democratic machine."
"There are NO Republican members of the Democrat Hispanic Congressional Caucus...they were forced out. Republican hispanic members of congress support Miguel Estrada." Sen. Hatch

Sen. Reid objects. Orrin's shining a light on the borg and they're squirming.
