Ron Silver (those are our planes now) is on our side?
Posted on 02/09/2003 8:08:52 AM PST by CloudyI
Did anyone see FoxNews with Ron Silver? I could hardly believe my ears. When did he become so Pro-Bush, Pro-America? Did I miss something? Was it all a dream? I still don't trust him but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
He talked about the arrogance of the Europeans and how Bush was doing everything right.
Does anyone have a copy of the transcript?

To be frank I think it is because he is Jewish
I work out in the Y and there are several liberal Jews I talk to who are pro Bush because of his Mid East stand

I saw him last night on Fox and he was very complimentary and supportive of Bush's actions.
There are lefties and there are lefties.
Silver, at least, argues from a point of principle and that's more than most Hollywood types are capable of. Conservatives, both of them, included.

I saw this too and couldn't believe it!

I was surprised how much Fred B kissed his ass. This guy is a Clintonista through and through and Fred should have asked him to clarify his "those are our planes now" remark.
What exactly did he mean by that?....and of course the follow up should have been, "Who's planes do you consider them to be now"?
But both Fred (I'm a baby step to the right), and Mort (I'm a baby step to the leftt) are first class don't rock the boat types, so I guess expecting them to actually conduct anything but a softball interview on their "Middle of the Beltway Boys" show is unrealistic.

I saw it, and I was equally surprised. I particularly liked the point he made about the hipocracy of hollywood: they scream for human rights and compassion, yet they seem to want this dictator to continue his reign of terror.
He also said that he and Martin Sheen disagree on political views, and have to avoid talking about it on the set of the west wing.
I think the fact that he is Jewish helps to shade his views, and support our man George W.

WAY TO GO SILVER!: According to the The Wall Street Journal(via Google News and Lileks), a dinner panel at the recent meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland engaged in a constant hammering of American policy, until one lone voice rose up in defense of the red, white, and blue: Ron Silver. Yes, the regular "West Wing" guest star who once played Alan Dershowitz in a movie was the only one in the room with the guts to stand up to the Euro-idiots. From the WSJ:
"Ron Silver, the US actor and political activist, jumped up from a table across the room to retort that if it werent for the US, hundreds of thousands more civilians would have died in the Balkans, while Europe sat idly by. The US had no interest in that region other than humanitarian, he said. We are not an imperial government, Mr. Cox, he said. You know that, and everyone here knows that.

Who gives a damn what he thinks? If you stand him up, you have to stand Alec Baldwin, Ed Asner, Jane Fonda and the rest up. All of them can vote but one time each.

What's your problem with Ron Silver supporting our war on Iraq? You rather he didn't like most of the big name HollyWeird thespians?
He seems OK enough to me.

But I was reading the WSJ today, and in an account of Colin Powells visit to the Davos summit in Switzerland, theres this:
On formal panels, in corridors and at normally genteel dinners, tempers flared. At one dinner of poached salmon, Patrick Cox, the president of the European Union parliament, blasted the US for its go-it-alone approach. The real Europe has values, he said. Our imperial days are over, and thank God for that.
Ron Silver, the US actor and political activist, jumped up from a table across the room to retort that if it werent for the US, hundreds of thousands more civilians would have died in the Balkans, while Europe sat idly by. The US had no interest in that region other than humanitarian, he said. We are not an imperial government, Mr. Cox, he said. You know that, and everyone here knows that.
Bravo. Thats all: bravo. That took guts and smarts; Silver has both.

I'm stunned. If true, maybe I can end my boycott of Silver's movies. He is a good actor, and a particularly good villain. (I liked him in "The Arrival"). But as much as is within my power, I'm just NOT giving Hollywood liberals my money anymore. I know, it is impossible in all cases, because you don't even see half the producers/agents/and side agreements.
Howver, he would not be the first liberal to realize that things changed after 9/11. Rosie surely did. And I think more than a few American Jews realize that they are dangerously close to total and complete Armageddon with Saddam and AQ getting biological and nuclear weapons.

I was shocked also! I will never forget...or forgive...his "those are our planes now" comment, though. I wonder if he would like to give those planes back to Clinton now?
To: dennisw
I believe he is a Clintonista first and foremost, and therefore cannot, and should not, be trusted. His pro-war position is the same as Joe Lieberman's, as his views beyond that are predictably hard left.
That's my problem with him, and again, clarification of his "those are our planes now" statement would be a means to possibly convince me he has changed his stripes.
What are your feelings about his remark about the planes?
