There is an epidemic of abuse of the "state" lists. These lists are for topics that specifically pertain to those states.
Too many posters post to all 50 states for topics that are of national interest not specific to any state. This renders the state lists nearly useless. My state currently has 7 of the recent 10 articles that having nothing in particular to do with my state. The whole point of the state lists is to prevent readers from having to sort through all articles to spot those that are locally pertinent.
Just because you think an article is of interest to people in all states does not mean that it is proper to post it to all those states.
Thanks for the attention.

Maybe you should post this to all of the State Lists, so everyone sees it? ;0)

I seriously considered posting to all states, but then sensibly realized that those who are abusing the state lists undoubtedly aren't reading them, or they would realize how their actions were annoying the readers and undermining the intent of the state lists.

That was my idea too! At least now you'll be flamed rather than me.

Where do these lists live? I can't seem to find them.

Cranks always post to huge lists -- they assume they have really really important things to say. They never really do, though.

I'll take some heat for this, no doubt, but I submitted the following to the posts for WA state that inappropriately used the state lists:
Abuse of state lists alert

Sounds like a job for the [overworked] Admin Moderator.
Bettor yet, set a MAX of, say, 2 or 3 state choices as a topic selection per article post.

That is the reason I don't receive alerts on State issues. Prefer to go to the site occasionally and check out what is being said. I was receiving alerts that I could not figure out the reason why Oklahoma was notified.

I was receiving alerts that I could not figure out the reason why Oklahoma was notified.Probably because the musical showed the nation that Oklahoma is THE hub of culture in America... ;0)

Bettor yet, set a MAX of, say, 2 or 3 state choices as a topic selection per article post. 2 or 3 is too low, I think. If it's an issue that affects, say, states bordering the Pacific Ocean, you've got 5. But if it gets up to, say 25, you have a potential abuse. 50 states (51 if you include D.C.) and it's pretty likely.

Speaking of states, did you know that 99.97% of Massachusetts taxpayers are cold-hearted, conservative Republicans? Honest.
To: SamAdams76
Does that mean that only 37 people in Mass. pay taxes?
