Great 2nd Pic.

Where did you find it?

I've always wanted a 3d pic of the earth w/o water.

Here's a REAL photograph of the Panama Canal taken from the International Space Station. I've reduced the size of the actual photograph for display on FR; click the image to see the full-size version.

It should be obvious that the image which led off the thread isn't a photograph from the Space Shuttle; the altitude is way too high, and there are a host of other discrepancies. I'm only posting this picture to provide an example of what a real photograph taken from ISS/ Space Shuttle orbital altitude looks like.

Nice image, but it can't possibly be real. The "line" between daylight and darkness isn't nearly as clear as this. Otherwise, a sunset would last about a minute and a half before the area was plunged into total darkness. The transition from daylight to darkness is much more gradual than this, due to the "residual" sunlight that is refracted through the atmosphere.

There is almost no "transition zone" between daytime and night time on the moon, since there is no atmosphere there.

Re:your #30 post. That looks like a portion of the NASA photo 'earthlights.jpg'.

Incredible how dark North Korea is, isn't it? It's so dark that it makes South Korea look like an island.

Here's a shot of the ISS from the shuttle Discovery. Note the apparent altitude and scope of the view of the planet. There are photos of Hubble service missions with similar scope, but planet surface mostly obscurred by cloud cover. I can't identify the planet surface area, but this would lend credence that some shuttle missions and flight paths position it in a way to allow the photo Limbaugh has posted.

Well, I recognized it instantly. It's the western end of the Mediterranean including the straits of Gibraltar and the southern coast of Portugal beyond. Ironically, it's a small portion of the view in the supposed Limbaugh photo. Anybody who thought that thing was real for more than ten seconds, be informed that you are a complete ignoramus, disqualified henceforward from any comment or discourse whatsoever concerning space, planets, orbits, rockets, photographs, oceans, geography, or related subjects, so please desist.

... Meaning no offense!

I just noticed that this is from Rush's Web site. He's not going to be too happy if he finds out he was duped.

This can be forgiven, but it will be a real test to own up to it. Do you think he will pass?

IF he's told about the comments here....Probably.

If he isn't told, it would probably stay there for several days.
