Castro tells Iraq: destroy weapons

CUBAN President Fidel Castro has urged Baghdad to destroy "the last cubic centimetre of chemical or biological weapons" to remove any pretext Washington might have to attack it.

At the close of the new Cuban parliamentary legislature, in which Castro's re-election as head of the government and the state came as no surprise, the Cuban leader praised Iraq's decision to destroy its Al-Samoud 2 missiles.

"The American Government will no longer have the least legal or moral pretext to attack Iraq," Castro said.

He slammed Washington for closing its eyes to atomic weapons held by Israel having provided the means for their transportation.

"Only the complete truth ... would give the Iraqi people enough moral strength and international support to defend their homeland and integrity right up to the last drop of blood," he said.

Castro acknowledged that Iraq had "committed two grave and unjustifiable actions" in invading Iran and occupying Kuwait, but had also had to endure "very hard action" itself.

Iraq "is not in a position, militarily speaking, to constitute the least risk to US security or of their allies in the region", Castro said.

Is he also going to stop killing and torturing his own people?

I guess since Castro does that, too, it's morally A-OK.

But I thought Saddam didn't have any of these weapons. How could he possibly destroy something which he doesn't admit exist?

For dictators ... to prevent them --- they should be limited to two terms ...

one in office --- one in jail (( firing squad extinction )) !

This axis of evil is going to get a weld -- torch job !

Well, at least Castro seems to have come out more forecefully than Jimmy Carter.

Well, you may like to know there was an hispanic college student on H&C last night who was a hoot. Hannity asked him if there was ever a 'just' war. His response: The Cuban Revolution! I kid you not. Hannity asked how he could say such a thing and he said any war 'that advances humanity' is a just war.

Of course, these young skulls full of hash also think the money we're spending on the war should be spent instead on education! Like all the money that's been spent on them hasn't been a colossal waste!

Since Israel is a socialist nation, and since most arab nations are right wing in the classical sense of the word, that is to say, monarchies and personal dictatorships, you'd think Castro would be siding with Israel.

Must not really be about the greater good, etc., I guess.

It looks like old Fidel is getting worried about being classified as "axis of evil" instead of just "embargoed Commie".

When I was in college, some group (not Cubans or other Hispanics) put up a bunch of posters that read:

¡CUBA LIBRE! ¡VIVA FIDEL!

I took my felt-tip and modified some of them so they read:

¡CUBA no sería LIBRE! ¡mientras VIVA FIDEL!

Everyone but the Cubans were angry.

Tio Fidel said: CUBAN President Fidel Castro has urged Baghdad to destroy "the last cubic centimetre of chemical or biological weapons" to remove any pretext Washington might have to attack it.

Translation: Immediately, destroy any chemical or biological weapons that we made for you in Cuba.

I want to live the rest of my life as a rich communist dictator without worrying about President Bush whacking me for selling you WMDs.

It has been nice to know you as a cash cow, Saddam. However, please don't write or phone me.

Adios Mofo!

Did he elaborate on how the Cuban Revolution "advanced humanity"?

Humor me: I need the laugh :)

Yeah, I think you are right, after all. Only I suppose that Israel is actually conscientious about it.

Does Castro have any examples where Israel has threatened aggression against a neighbor? Even though they do slaughter innocents from time to time (Israel had a particularly tough week this week) I don't think they have used nerve agents against Palestinians as Saddam has against the Kurds.

So is there really an "equivalence" here?

Well, at least Castro seems to have come out more forecefully than Jimmy Carter. LOL!

Actually, Castro is a little peeved with Comrade Saddam.

The ruling Baath party won 99.98% of the Iraqi vote, while the ruling Communist party won 99.97% of the Cuban vote.

Iraq is a stronger democracy than Cuba.

This from the guy who allowed the USSR to build ICBM launch facilities in Cuba, put TWO anti-aircraft units on top of the apartment building where I lived so that he could accuse the "Yankee Imperialists" of murdering innocent civilians should there be an invasion, and then BEGGED the Soviets to launch a first strike during the October crisis.

Fidel, I'm going to live long enough to dance on your grave maricón.

Bet on that.

¡CUBA no sería LIBRE! ¡mientras VIVA FIDEL!

The correct grammatical way is ¡CUBA no será LIBRE! ¡mientras VIVA FIDEL!

The former implies SUPPOSITION, the latter is an AFFIRMATION.
