The Dems are winning this. They will keep any Bush nominees off the courts. The real shame is that the gutless Republicans could end this by imposing a real fillibuster, but refuse to do so.

Can someone explain why we should ever vote Republican/conservative again when they clearly are too cowardly to rule?

WASHINGTON -- The Democratic filibuster against judicial nominee Miguel Estrada has little to do with the 41-year-old Honduran immigrant.

It is part of a grand design to talk to death a succession of conservative judges selected by President Bush. Democrats are intent on keeping the Senate from voting on any appellate nominations that do not meet the party's specifications.

This extraordinary design, without precedent in two centuries of judicial nominations, was launched January 30 in the office of Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle. Present were Assistant Leader Harry Reid and six Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats. With all pledged to secrecy, the fateful decision was made to filibuster Estrada's nomination

There is no reason to ever vote for anyone in this "Two-Party Cartel". However this oligarchy won't allow competition. We get leftover Bushes, Klintoons, Doles, etc. to run this country. Meanwhile this nation is hemorrhaging in debt & excess spending & since this "cartel" has sent all of our jobs elsewhere & we probably have 10% unemployed. All brought to you by the Bushes, Klintoons, etc.

When the next election comes & you all see NO conservative legislation or judges or fiscal restraint, etc put in force by a majority of so-called conservatives will you say that you have been had? Or will you continue with heads in the sand & get the same crapola for the rest of your lives?

Those who fear more Antonin Scalias on the federal bench seem oblivious to the fact that, when the White House and Congress are again in Democratic hands, minority Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee — pointing to the present full-scale obstructionist precedent — will apply the same scorched-earth tactics.

No they won't. And if they did, the Dems will do what I am suggesting the GOP should do now, which is declare that the filibuster rule is void with respect to judicial nominations.

They won't, because the media will excoriate them, much unlike what's happening now. The media is the Dems ultimate weapon to win such showdowns; it's what they so used to take the '95 budget standoff and whip the freshman class of '94 into submission and forestall the conservo revolution.

Gotta enjoy Hentoff, though. What a liberal pariah.

You jest of course. There is no chance that Frist will be as spineless as Lott. It just couldn't happen. Life could never be that unfair.
