LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

OK folks what you do is you call the (562) 905-9701 number. This will get you to City Hall administration.

From there you can ask the lady to have either the Mayor (he's out) or any of the City Council member return your phone call. The City Council members are all at their jobs as it is a volunaty position. I am curious to see if any of them will call back. Be sure to let the lady know that it is in reference to the article printed in the Whittier post.

You can't write this off as a temper tantrum here or blind rage against that evil Bush either when you factor in they added that silly Dylan song, it was premeditated.

I completely distrusted and even hated the Clintons, who ruled this country. I used to watch that stupid conspiritorial show the X Files, and I believe currently that the Democratic party is using the electorial process to steer this nation into state-dependency. That being said;

At no time, EVER, have I once considered taking down, ripping, burning or desecrating a single flag from the privacy of my own home.

This was in public, many flags-none of which belonged to them, all of those types of damage, and a direct attack and insult to every American who dug for their family at Ground Zero this memorialized.

If you do not "think" they hate the USA, you are not thinking very well.

I just went to this site and spoke to the lady that put up the 9/11 memorial (she was trying to repair it) her name is Tracey Chandler (Email Sunburnttc@aol.com)

Per Tracey there were 87 U.S flags on the display that were burnt

I asked her were people could mail flags to help replace them and she told to have people to sent them sent them to the owner of the property (a great guy per Tracey)

A coworker here who lives in Whittier said that she is a teacher at an elementry school in Whittier where his children attend. All of the children made decorations for the 911 memorial, understanding that it was to remember those who died there. What do they tell the children now that their decorations have been savaged by these animals?
