Antiwar protesters trash 9/11 memorial!(blood pressure riser)

LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

PS I think after talking to Tracy (the lady the had put together this site) this morning up there, she would thank you for getting this story out there… she struck me as a very tough minded lady...

I was doing a google search for news this morning and typed in 9-11.

This was the story that popped up as the most recent. I had to post it on FR.

Street cops no long have the ability to recognize CRIMES and must be told afterwards by their supervisor what is or is not a CRIME.

It was obviously PC motivated to NOT arrest; now, because of the heat they're taking, it's PC TO arrest!

This is so funny how this has snowballed

I saw the story this morning and went to check out the site

It was just Tracey out there by herself cleaning things up

We talk for quite awhile and was surprised to here that I had saw this on the internet (As far as she new this was a local non event that was reported in the local throwaway paper)

I told her that it was posted on the internet and people across the country were hopping mad (I knew with it posted on Free Republic it would spread like wildfire) and to get ready to be swamped with calls

Ken and John of KFI in LA have a link to HELP REBUILD THE 9-11 MEMORIAL on their site. The folks who put it together are going to build an even bigger memorial at the original spot. Ken and John have taken up this cause.

This is a terrible disgrace to you, your city, and your police department.

I am a family member of a FDNY fireman who died in the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

I am shocked that you would let these vandals get away with this behavior, desecrating a memorial to 9-11 victims.

Captain Rees is a cruel and heartless man to stand by and let these vile deeds go unpunished.

Ken and John, whom I like a great deal and try to catch a bit of every day, interviewed the lady who tended to the memorial, and the owner of the property on their radio show today. Very interesting. The perps (a lady and her two sons, and the son's girlfriends) trashed the site once, and then returned later, after having been run off, to finish the dirty deed. Grrrrr.....
