A manager for the Country and Western group the Dixie Chicks is blaming the ongoing firestorm of negative reaction to anti-Bush comments by lead singer Natalie Maines last week on a vast right-wing cyber-conspiracy.
Dixie Chicks' manager Simon Renshaw has told radio stations currently boycotting the group's music that the uproar has been ginned up by the Web site FreeRepublic.com, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Tuesday.
FreeRepublic has nicknamed the group, "The Blixie Chicks," after Saddam-friendly U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix. Several posters to the cyber-forum have urged visitors to contact radio stations about the controversy.
"Your company is being targeted by a radical right-wing online forum," Renshaw complained in an e-mail distributed to radio stations by the Dixie Chicks' label, Sony Music. "You are being 'Freeped,' which is the code word for an organized e-mail/telephone effort attempting to solicit a desired response," he explained.
On March 10, lead Dixie Chick Maines told a London audience: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
After her remarks were reported, nationwide protests erupted in the U.S., with angry fans reportedly destroying their collections of Dixie Chicks CDs.
After four days Maines issued a semi-apology, saying her initial remarks had been "disrespectful."
"I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect," she added.
But Maines' statement did little to assuage angry Country and Western music fans, who are predominantly conservative and pro-Bush.

I am surprised the other two "chicks" are silent about Maines comments. We must assume silence means agreement.

FR is not responsible for what comes out of a Dixie Chick mouth.........just for making sure they are held accountable for their nasty comments. Down here in Dixie...we don't put up with much crap from entertainers...not that I was ever entertained by the Dixie Chicks...until now.

All these cards are cluttering up my wallet.
Maybe we could have a "Conservative Conspiracy Card" and just punch out chads for the ones we are in.

Folks if we get up to 200,000 or more Active Freepers, and a large part of those Freepers share their talent, time and a little of their treasure (17 cents per day or $5/month), we will expose and contain the left wingers all over America and the world.
They have gotten by with these anti American outbursts because the media has protected them.
Welcome to the New World Dixie B$tches. You have the freedom to say anything. However, when you cross the line and dis our president, our country and its service people, it will cost you big time for a long time.
We still remember Jane Fonda, and she is detested by most Americans. The Dixie Wh$res will have that same stain on them for the rest of their miserable career.

Don't worry about what they say about you, as long as they spell your name right.

Now I am the proud member of at least 3 conspiracies: (snip) Maybe I can quit my day job. Have you been getting your paychecks?
No, but isn't there a special tax break we get for being conspiracy members?

If Maines had not said anything outrageous, none of us would be outraged, would we? So who's at fault here?
I think this will be the end of the run for the Ditsy Chicks. They are an adequate bar band, but there is nothing really special about them. Bar bands can be a lot of fun, but when they pi$$ you off, it's always easy to find another.

I'm conflicted - I'd love to think that Free Republic has that level of influence but I also would like to think that the backlash is bigger than just us. How big are we? It's not just the size, it is the dispersion around the country and the world that makes us powerful. Freepers can use their knowledge gained from reading threads on FreeRepublic.com to influence friends and aquaintences who don't know about Free Republic. Lefties have historically had a big advantage in organizing, because they tend to live in large cities with high population densities. Conservatives tend to be spread out around the country.

However, my family and friends who do dumped them like a cheap boyfriend. No prodding from me, I swear!
I don't care that much about them.

>>"Obviously, the Blixie Chics problems stem not from some VRWC, but from the fact that Maines can't keep her mouth shut."
Ouch - truth hurts, don't it.
Maybe she will choose the path of wisdom and consider the possibility she could be wrong.
NAAAH. It's Natale we're talking about here. She's gone Hollywood.
