Disney Sues Dems Over Dwarfs

5/5/2003 - stcrispin

Walt Disney Studios today announced that it had filed suit against the Democratic Party for infringing its copyright to "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." According to a complaint filed in federal district court in Los Angeles, the nine contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination so closely resemble the seven dwarfs in the Disney Snow White story as to confuse voters and movie goers and thus diminish the value of Disney's intellectual property interests.

Disney spokesperson Clarice Elliot told reporters that the strong similarities between the candidates and the movie characters leave little doubt that the copyright violation is intentional. "You've got John Edwards. He's a personal injury lawyer, so he thinks he's Doc. John Kerry is clearly Grumpy and Al Sharpton is Sleazy, which is close enough to one of our guys. We've been able to match them all, even the ones no one remembers - I mean, the candidates no one remembers, not the dwarfs. Everyone knows all of them." Ms. Elliot declined to comment on which candidate is Dopey, other than to say "We believe that there definitely is a Dopey and that the two extra candidates are Dopey's stunt doubles." Ms Elliot went on to explain that Snow White character is not another candidate, or even, as some have suggested, Hillary Clinton, but rather the Democratic Party itself, which "has pretty much been in a coma since Katherine Harris gave it the poisoned Florida orange in the 2000 election."

A source at the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee told reporters that the party intends to assert the "fair use" defense to the alleged copyright infringement. "The law permits you to parody a copyrighted idea, so we are going to argue that this whole election thing is really just a big joke on our part. I mean, look, no one could take any of these people seriously. I'm just sorry Disney spoiled the punch line where Prince Albert shows up and awakens the party with a kiss."

For what it matters in the matter of Snow White, a group in California has decreed that the use of "seven dwarfs" is now taboo. The correct version is Snow White and the Seven Persons of Short Stature. Let us all remember that in future usage.

ROFLMAO! Soon to be changed to . . . Snow White and the "numbers of appendages on an able-bodied hand plus the thumb and index finger of the other hand" Persons of Short Stature -- for those math-challenged California youngsters lest their fragile egos be bruised.

Hell, we're gonna have well-spoken tykes who know squat about literature, history, and math. Only in California.

Are you sure they'll accept the word "short"?
How about "vertically challenged"?
The recorrected version: Snow White and the Seven People of Vertically Challenged Heights.

Yeah, but "White" is such a racist word.

How about: Snow Caucasion and the Seven People of Vertically Challenged Heights?
