Never mind the big movie chains. Cain is going straight to video
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | Monday 7.7.03 | TOM BAXTER and JIM GALLOWAY

Posted on 07/08/2003 6:43:49 PM PDT by Amish

In a first sign that he intends to be more than a name on the ballot, Herman Cain has mailed a seven-minute video introducing himself as a U.S. Senate candidate to tens of thousands of Republican activists across the state.

It's a by-the-bootstraps message by an experienced motivational speaker, detailing the African-American candidate's rise from Morehouse College to high corporate positions with Pillsbury and Burger King, and then ownership of Godfather's Pizza.

Cain wants the GOP hardcore to know that Clarence Thomas isn't alone. He, too, puts more faith in Horatio Alger than in affirmative action.

"We knew it wasn't going to come easy," the millionaire said, speaking of himself in royal fashion. "We were going to have to be successful the old-fashioned way. Work for it."

In an accompanying letter, Cain presents himself as a defender of conservative talk radio, and an opponent of liberals who think "you can't or should not own a firearm, that the presence of God in a public school is somehow a threat to our children, but condoms and teaching how to tolerate 'other lifestyles' is not."

Johnny Isakson and Mac Collins will have to be careful.

Regardless of what kind of purchase he finds within the overwhelmingly white Republican base, Cain has a gripping presence on a television set. He'll be a force in any joint appearances the three make.

Maybe they should just run as Democrats. I hear they have a pretty weak bench with Zell retiring.

2 months ago, I thought the best candidate to run for the Senate in GA was Mac Collins. But the more I learn about Herman Cain, the more I like him. The GOP needs to support Cain if they ever wish to attract more minority voters.

Jeez, if that's a weak bench with all the names mentioned, what do you consider a "strong" one ???

Last year when Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk ran for the US Senate in TX, the media fawned all over him. Herman Cain will most likely be ignored by the Atlanta media. If he does get any press, it will probably be about him being a "sellout." In fact, I could envision the King family, Rep. John Lewis, and the McKinney family denouncing Herman Cain as a disgrace to the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. I hope they will do such a stunt, because it will reveal to the general public how mean-spirited, self-centered and partisan the so-called "civil rights" leaders are.

MLK's niece, a former state Rep., is a Republican convert. I'm sure, unless she's committed to someone else, wouldn't denounce Cain.

Ah, yes. I don't know if it has the 7-minute video, though. My poor 5-year old computer I don't trust to handle those downloads anymore, I have almost no space left to download stuff... :-P

{MLK's niece, a former state Rep., is a Republican}

Has she been disowned yet? The King family for the most part keeps to themselves. However, when they are in the public limelight, they can be very shrill.

In January 2001, Martin Luther King III came to speak at St. Sabina Church (A Roman Catholic Church for Blacks) in the south side of Chicago. During Sunday Worship Service, he ripped the incoming Bush Administration and urged Blacks to oppose the nomination of John Ashcroft as Attorney General. He made a church service into an anti-Bush political rally.

Can some of you Georgians tell us where Issakson and Collins fall on the RINO vs Conservative scale. Better yet tell us which current GOP Senator they would vote like?

Issakson is a strong defender of Roe v. Wade. That's about all I know about him. He had Gingrich's support to succeed him. Gingrich was nominally prolife, but the issue was not so important to him that it would keep him from supporting a "moderate." Issakson lost to Miller for governor in 1990, as I vaguely recall. He is Jewish.

Yikes, I just realized, as DVD's reach critical mass we're going to be awash with this stuff.

The AOL disc's were just the calm before the storm!
