What makes a Freeper?
self

We are described by many in the media, as radical right wing Clinton haters. Even Limbaugh and Hugh Hewitt, are careful to add a disclaimer, when giving us praise.
Well, what makes a freeper anyway? Are we, as some like to describe us, fringe right wingers? What attracts us to this site? What keeps us coming back?
I have been a registered member since June of 1998, I became a regular poster after Clinton was elected. It was a comfort to find that there were other people who felt as discouraged as I did .
Since then, every time I take a break from Free Republic, something else happens. WhiteWater, Lewinsky, Impeachment, elections, The Big 2000 election and aftermath, 9-11, Afghanistan, Iraq. Etc etc etc
Along the way, I have seen many changes in freepers themselves. Cycles of Post patrols and sliming, good freepers have come and gone.
Freepers do not agree on anything except that the clintons and liberals were/are evil. We are from all over the world, from all types of backgrounds. Where else can you read newspapers and articles and discuss them with others? Where else can you have a good old fashioned debate about subjects from science to religion? Where else can you keep up on the news, get the latest book and movie reviews, and brush up on your history, in one site?
One thing, to new lurkers, if you are sensitive to criticism, politically correct, uninformed, or lack humor, this site is not for you.
But for the rest of us, this is home.

I like this place because, like Burger King, it's commercial-free.

Freepers do not agree on anything except that the clintons and liberals were/are evil. Liberals per se (even using that word in the contemporary sense, to mean "hard-left radical") are not evil.
So we don't even agree on that.

Two different bills of material.
1. Sticks, stones and puppy dog bones.
2. Sugar spice and everything nice.

I agree with you. I used a poor choice of words, liberals aren't evil, but liberalism is close to it.

You take breaks from FreeRepublic? How odd. What does it mean... "Take a break"? As a newbie this phrase is unfamiliar to me... do we get breaks from FR? or are we supposed to take um every so often? hmmmmmmmm I shall ponder this new information.

sometimes it takes flame-proof cojones and a trip to the html sandbox to make a good freeper. Mostly, though a conservative nature helps.
