Good point. I guess we never got to see what Hank could have become. Huge loss.

There's two. Who is number 3?

Was Warren Zevon too early to make this trifecta (Zevon, Ritter, Cash)?

Hopefully, Warren Zevon was the first last week. Although the "threes rule" seems to be frequently violated this year - they just keep coming in fours and fives...

Damn, first John Ritter, then Johnny Cash. A sucky night so far.

And always in threes. I wonder who's next in the next few days.

Cash is the third. Singer Warren Zevon (Werewolves of London) who died on Sunday was the first.

Zevon was within a week of the other two. I say he makes three.

This looks like it was made at Sun Studios.
Think of this Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins all playing there at the same time.

He will be missed.

To borrow a line from Gram Parsons, "God's own singer" is now home.

Thanks, John.

I wasnt a big fan but his "Hurt" cover was heart wrenching and hypnotizing:

"Hurt"

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stain of time
The feeling disappears
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Goodbye Johnny

Just this morning I heard the whistle of a train
It was train that was going away

Someday soon we all have to go down that track
And just like Johnny, we won't be coming back

But when we've all made it to the end of the line
The things we'll remember
The stories we'll have to tell
The songs we'll sing
Will be so fine

Just this morning I heard the whistle of a train
It was train that was going away

Someday soon we all have to go down that track
And just like Johnny, we won't be coming back

EV

Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire is definitely in the Top 10 as one of the greatest country songs of all time. I never get tired of hearing that song and own about a dozen versions of it from other artists including some unlikely ones such as Social Distortion. Of course, Cash's music crossed all musical genres which explains why he had a recent hit with that Nine Inch Nails song.

Another favorite Johnny Cash song of mine is Sunday Morning Coming Down. I'll never forget where I first heard that song. It was early in the morning at a breakfast joint near El Centro, CA. I was nursing a hangover and a Marine buddy I was with played it on the jukebox. It's been one of my favorite songs ever since.

Diabetes is a nasty disease. It runs in my family and I've had an uncle and cousin die from it recently in much the same manner as Cash. I have about a half dozen family members diagnosed with diabetes and they are headed for the same end.

He fought the law. And the law won.

Cash was a Christian. The Law Lost. Grace Won.
