You are correct.

They ask for proof and when you provide it they dismiss it as not credible.

I encourage the continued practice of presenting the facts, not with the aim of convincing the apologists, but with the aim of keeping the truth front and center for those who read these threads.

I could not say it better myself!

I’m still waiting for the story of how Christ attacked the religion of the Samaritan or the Romans. (or someone else??)

Well... since you've IGNORED what was posted earlier, here is stuff that perhaps MEETS YOUR REQUIREMENTS.

Although you've NARROWED the amount of your victims; but I'll ASSUME you'll accept this:

Matthew 15:16
"Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them.

Matthew 23

 1.  Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
 2.  "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
 3.  So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
 4.  They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
 5.  "Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries  wide and the tassels on their garments long;
 6.  they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues;
 7.  they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them `Rabbi.'
 8.  "But you are not to be called `Rabbi,' for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.
 9.  And do not call anyone on earth `father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
 10.  Nor are you to be called `teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ.
 11.  The greatest among you will be your servant.
 12.  For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
 13.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
 14.  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
 15.   "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
 16.  "Woe to you, blind guides! You say, `If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.'
 17.  You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
 18.  You also say, `If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.'
 19.  You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
 20.  Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
 21.  And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.
 22.  And he who swears by heaven swears by God's throne and by the one who sits on it.
 23.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
 24.  You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
 25.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
 26.  Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
 27.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!  You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean.
 28.  In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
 29.  "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.
 30.  And you say, `If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
 31.  So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
 32.  Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers!
 33.  "You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?
 34.  Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.
 35.  And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
 36.  I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation.
 37.  "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.
 38.  Look, your house is left to you desolate.
 39.  For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, `Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.' "

Mark 7:26-27
 26.  The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
 27.  "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

Galatians 5:12
As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!

No. I am hearing some people claim that Mormons aren’t Christian. I ask them how they define the term. One person presented a definition that seems, well, odd. I asked for the cite and he refused to provide it.

I provided a definition with a cite that would include Mormons as Christians. The cited referenced is recognized as an authority on the English language.

I can’t “force” anyone to accept the recognized definition. But I do think that it is clear who is on the fringe. And I don’t mind at all opining that their attitude is not what Christ would approve of.

Go ahead - follow your God, but you CANNOT insist we call you one of us.

Sure they can; and sure they will.

And they'll pout and moan when we still refuse to.

I too think it is clear who is on the “fringe.” Remember the marketplace of ideas? Your side lost.

Are you telling me I am not free to state my opinion?

Sure you can state it, but let the Lurkers know this:

You are wrong on every point:

In every way:

And for every reason.

Only a current member (worthy, of course) of our beloved LDS Organization®, based in Salt Lake City, Utah, can say ANYTHING about the 'church' that is true.

Any others are automatically suspect or braindead or both.

I don’t care about a democratic vote on an issue of fact. What I care about is the truth.

Why do you believe that the definition provided by mainstream dictionary resources are incorrect and supported by a minority (with the personal definitions provided by some in the religious right to have majority support)?

Yeah; they are always wanting 'proof' of something, and when asked for 'proof' of their originals of the BoM, 'the angel took it away' is supposed to be sufficient for us.

How about this for proof the golden plates existed ...

From the official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I present to you the record of the Rajah Manchou of Vorito.

We know these plates were translated correctly because the Mormon prophet used Urim and Thummim, and an angel pronounced the completed work perfect. And we know the plates were real because we have the testimony of eleven witnesses.

Furthermore, as you can see above, the actual hole where the plates were found in a Sacred Grove on the Hill of Promise was still visible more than 60 years after an angel revealed them to the Mormon Prophet.

In case you are curious, you can see what Mormonism's god left out of the Bible and the Standard Works HERE. (Hint: It's a lot of important stuff like Baptism for the Dead, Municipal Courts, the church office of Viceroy, a city parks department, and a dress code.)

Finally, you may be interested to know almost all of Joseph Smith's remaining family, including his widow Emma, his four sons, his mother Lucy Mack Smith, his brother William, and his sisters, left the Utah Mormons and proclaimed (for a while at least) this sect the one true Mormon Church.

“Where did Christ ever condemn the faith of those who claimed to believe in Him and who sought to do Christ’s will?” ... If you would study the teaching of Jeuss you would know He made explicit address to this phenomenon, and even attributed what appear to be miraculous things done in His name, yet these will be told to depart from Him, He never knew them. When you fail to accept that He means to indwell you and thus be the author of any good coming out of you in this life, and instead insist on the Mormon doctrine of ‘after all that you can do, His sacrifice will kick in for you’ ... well, good luck with your moment before the Great White Throne.

One note: Joe Smith didn’t use the Urim and Thummim for the ‘translating’ of the supposed plates, he used his divination peepstone. The Mormon church continues to promote that lie regarding the Urim and Thummim because it suits thier deceits. When pushed, they will admit the latter.

Dear tortdog,

“I can’t ‘force’ anyone to accept the recognized definition.”

A dictionary definition hardly represents a complete and exhaustive definition of a word like Christianity. Try again.

On the other hand, it has been shown that the Christian bodies that represent the overwhelming number of Christians reject the LDS claim to be a Christian religion.

“But I do think that it is clear who is on the fringe.”

Yes, it’s quite clear indeed.

One note: Joe Smith didn’t use the Urim and Thummim for the ‘translating’ of the supposed plates, he used his divination peepstone.

You mean like this?

Your observation certainly agrees with BoM "Witnesses" Harris and Cowdry.

But Joseph said he used Urim and Thummim.

And according to Smith's mother, Lucy Mack Smith:

That of which I spoke, which Joseph termed a key, was indeed, nothing more nor less than the Urim and Thummim, and it was by this that the angel showed him many things which he saw in vision; by which he could ascertain, at any time, the approach of danger, either to himself or the Record, and on account of which he always kept the Urim and Thummim about his person. (Biographical Sketches of Joseph Smith the Prophet and his Progenitors for Many Generations, page 106)

And Mother Smith said she got a good look at Urim and Thummim:

I knew not what he meant, but took the article of which he spoke into my hands, and, upon examination, found that it consisted of two smooth three-cornered diamonds set in glass, and the glasses were set in silver bows, which were connected with each other in much the same way as old fashioned spectacles. He took them again and left me, but said nothing respecting the Record. (Biographical Sketches, page 101)

Of course, still others believe Joseph plagiarized the Book of Mormon from OTHER SOURCES.

So, what did Joseph use? A peep stone, peep spectacles, or plagiary? I urge each reader of this posting to examine the evidence and make up his/her own mind.
