For the uninitiated, every year televangelist Pat Robertson has predictions dressed up as prophecy. He contends that the Lord speaks to him [in his heart presumably] and let's him know about things for the future.
Now don't get me wrong, I think that God can and sometimes does speak to people. He does this for His reasons. I must admit that I don't think that God and Pat are on very good speaking terms.
Now I have made my predictions for 2009. Prescient or imbecilic, they are mine. Other than creating my weak little brain, God had nothing to do with it. The stupidity is my own. Pat is not satisfied with such personal prognostication so he often infuses them with the aura of a prophetic word. To Robertson's ear, the Lord is a part time commodities trader.
"The Lord said the dollar is going to go down dramatically," Robertson said in the interview. "If I'm hearing him right, gold will go to about $1900 dollars an ounce and oil to $300 a barrel."Does God really inspire his own to predict commodities futures? Now I am not saying that Pat is wrong, just presumtuous to claim this is from God. For instance, Pat says:
Socialist policies and massive government spending, Robertson told Meeuwsen, could lead to heavy hyperinflation, sending prices through the roof and the value of the dollar through the floor.I have said as much in my predictions, but I think it would be rather uppity of me to claim God's imprimatur.
And he blows it when it gets specific. Remember the hurricane he said God sent to smite the people in Florida gay days when it was heading straight for them? It veered away and slammed right into Robertson’s headquarters.
That was funny..
That was Oral Roberts. I remember most Pat Robertson speaking on the night that Desert Storm started, predicting a striking victory (ok, he got that right), an economic boom in 1992 (uh, oh, not so right) and a landslide reelection victory for Bush 41 (not a chance). Oh, they weren’t his predictions, according to Robertson, that’s what God told him was going to happen.
Nothing like making fun of Fundamentalist Protestants to get conservatives united (and to make up for all the superstitions of all those illiterate Mayan peasants).
If you read the Bible, much of the prophecy got the prophet in a lot of trouble because it was so outrageous, i.e., the listeners could not believe that would ever happen to them.
Pat needs to retire - he's just an attention whore at this point.
At least Carson was entertaining when he made his predictions.
My mom lives off his show....for the past twenty-five years. My dad tolerates her watching the show...but the minute she tries to preach on him with the “700” Christian-pretender game...he quietly corrects her.
Pat and the rest of his crew...are all pretenders...and comical ones at that. They use the simple approach...sprinkle in some Christian themes....a couple of quotes from Moses...and the crowd follows them around. The minute he acts as some authority on oil production, tax revenue, social security or Cuba...they make themselves into fools.
This comment last Friday of God telling him that socialism is “ok”...probably ranks as the biggest joke ever on the show. I’m pretty sure that my mom preached on this topic to my dad for about ten minutes until he unloaded on her...you accept help from your family or your friends....but not the US government. Whatever you earned in life....was your life’s value or simply dumb luck, but we never take redistribution or wealth from some other fool. If my mom’s lucky....she might still be able to watch the “700 Club”...if not...she’s watching some Spanish language channel with lots of puppet shows.
LOL. Nostradamus lived before LSD was invented. So you think Captain Trips (Jerry Garcia) and Pat Robertson have this LSD usage in common? Can Pat play the guitar?
I love all the “words” Pat gets about people with this or that ailment that is being healed at the moment Pat is speaking, but somehow the Holy Spirit never can seem to impart to Pat the name and city and state of the healed person. Why would the Spirit of Truth play guessing games with Pat or the rest of us? He wouldn’t.
How would anyone prove that God did not tell him these things?

Deuteronomy 18:21-22: You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him.
Perhaps God has a sense of humor and wanted Pat to look stupid? Would that mean if something Pat predicts does come true, God really did speak to him?

If so, then God plays this joke on Pat and many other so-called televangelists all the time. It doesn’t seem to stop people from sending them money, though.

Given Pat’s long track record of false prophecies, I would doubt it.
Yes, mormons get bashed a lot here. I know.
But the hostility to the religious culture of the American Heartland by the alleged "one true church" (Catholic, Orthodox, Non-Chalcaedonian, Non-Ephesene, what-have-you), when expressed in terms identical to those of the liberals, is really an atrocity.
At least mormons get called devil-worshipers and such like. There's no effete sniffing about "simple-minded fools" who believe in the supernatural (by people whose religion teaches bilocation, glowing corpses, and magical rose petal smells). And the pooh-poohing of the Fundamentalist attachment to America as the special country, naive as it is, is gag-inducingly hypocritical by the pompous children of Holy Mother Russia, Holy Spain, or the Greeks Who Invented Western Civilization.
No wonder so many conservatives hate Sarah Palin. She's a bigoted Bible-thumper alienated from the Ancient Unchanging Evolutionism of the apostles and church fathers.

Um, Pat Robertson is as Protestant as those illiterate Mayan peasants, and a heck of a lot more dishonest. They might be misled, but he is a false teacher. Fundi? Maybe, if you take it in the broadest sense.
He IS a false prophet, saying that God says this and that, dishonoring the word that God did indeed speak through the real prophets and that Jesus and the apostles spoke. You will know them by their fruit, and Pat does nothing but spout lies that God spoke to him. Such trees will be thrown in the fire.
May Pat be granted the repentance that is called for, and if he is lucky, he will be saved as if he was dragged through fire. I see little that even suggests that he is born again, and I fear those that defend him seek to have their ears tickled and have no want for that which God did breath out to His ekklesia, the scriptures.
