BYU devotional, Elder Glenn L. Pace: The divine nature and destiny of women
LDS Church News ^ | March 9, 2010 | Marianne Holman

Women have a sacred role in the sanctification and purification of men, Elder Glenn L. Pace of the Seventy told students and faculty during the campus devotional in the Marriott Center at BYU on Tuesday, March 9.

Reflecting on the love he felt from his mother, sister, wife and daughters, Elder Pace spoke of the positive influence women have had on his life.

Speaking specifically about a time when his daughter fell asleep in his arms, Elder Pace noted the comfort it must have brought his daughter to be held by her father. He realized afterward that even greater was the peace and comfort she brought to him.

Looking to the Savior as an example, Elder Pace spoke of the love and respect He bestowed upon women.

"As we read about these associations, our focus is generally on what He teaches them and the love and understanding He gives them," Elder Pace said. "Have you ever considered the possibility that these women provided immense comfort to His burdened soul? It is my belief that He needed them as He journeyed toward living a perfect life in order that He could provide the ultimate sacrifice."

Just as the Savior needed righteous women, so do men today in purifying and sanctification in their lives.

Sharing excerpts from the story of the creation found in the book of Abraham, Elder Pace told of how the earth was created — before Eve — where Adam had been placed in the Garden of Eden. In the garden, Adam was enjoying a utopia in physical surroundings as well as open communication with God. Still, it was not complete without Eve.

"I believe the Father's statement 'It is not good that the man should be alone' (Genesis 2:18) had a much more profound meaning than the obvious biological implications," he said. "It also went further than providing Adam with company. Adam's ability to obtain the purification necessary to get back into the presence of God was dependent upon his continuous association with Eve."

In order for men and women to obtain the highest degree of celestial glory, there is need to be married, Elder Porter said.

"There is a limit to our spiritual development as long as we are single. There is a spiritual development which can only be obtained when a man and a woman join their incomplete selves into a complete couple," he said. "Just as conception requires the physical union of male and female, perfection requires the union of the very souls of male and female."

Although single men and women can accomplish great things on their own, they are incomplete until united intellectually, emotionally, physically and most important, spiritually, he said.

"The world we live in has gone awry with its focus on the physical part of the male and female relationship. If there is too much focus on the physical, the vital areas of intellectual, emotional and spiritual union are not being placed in an environment where they can flourish and grow."

Elder Pace spoke of the obsession the current society has on "making love," rather than developing a complete relationship that enables "expressing love." Because melding divine natures is a necessary element in bringing about perfection, Elder Pace said, individuals must guard against any deterioration of those natures.

"If the world keeps chipping away at the divine nature of women, it is probable that our relationships in marriage will not bring about the sanctification necessary for exaltation or, at a minimum, the process will be delayed," he said.

Referring to the phrase, "men have the priesthood and women have been given the blessing of procreation," Elder Pace spoke of the importance of each role in a relationship, and the ability couples have to complement one another in their eternal roles.

"It is the marriage ceremony in the temple where husband and wife receive the power to perfect their relationship and, thereby, obtain their exaltation."

As individuals work together to become a whole, as the Lord has commanded, they work together to become a combination of complementary capacities and characteristics.

"Sisters, I testify that when you stand in front of your heavenly parents in those royal courts on high and you look into Her eyes and behold Her countenance, any question you ever had about the role of women in the kingdom will evaporate into the rich celestial air, because at that moment you will see standing directly in front of you, your divine nature and destiny."

From the article: "If the world keeps chipping away at the divine nature of women..."

Say what? The "divine nature" of women? Aha! Mormonism unveiled: Presenting women as gods! (By the way, the BYU publication, The Daily Universe, avoided all references to women-as-gods in this same coverage of this general authority's talk).

From the article: "It is the marriage ceremony in the temple where husband and wife receive the power to perfect their relationship and, thereby, obtain their exaltation."

In Mormonese, what does "obtain their exaltation" translate into? It means stepping into the highest degree of glory & becoming gods.

From the article: "Sisters, I testify that when you stand in front of your heavenly parents in those royal courts on high and you look into Her eyes and behold Her countenance, any question you ever had about the role of women in the kingdom will evaporate into the rich celestial air, because at that moment you will see standing directly in front of you, your divine nature and destiny."

To be certain, Lds teaches godhood for millions of people!

Ya know this is odd...

Mormons refuse to put capitals for God the Father or Jesus...

He, His, Him etc...

But they write capitals for their pagan belief in godesses...

Very telling...

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)

Was there ever a son who couldn’t develop into the nature of the Father?

Hmmmmmmmmmm

Maslow’s Theory...

But let’s see what Paul says about needing to be married for so called “spiritual exaltation” ...

Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. 1 Corinthians 7:8

But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 1 Corinthians 7:9

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Paul said to get married for common or garden physical reasons

Oh noes

What a come down...

Still Maslow covered that also...

at the bottom of his pyramid...

;)

From the article: Adam's ability to obtain the purification necessary to get back into the presence of God was dependent upon his continuous association with Eve."

Ah. Here is where we have Jesus being relegated to the level of a man's wife as BOTH having equal weight "to obtain the purification necessary to get back into the presence of God". More Mormon blasphemy; inserting spouses into being on the same spiritual level of Jesus Christ!

Sorry. But Jesus will bear no rival. He even said that if someone's family member gets in the way of being His disciple, then that relationship needs to be contrasted sharply with the love relationship with Jesus -- to where Jesus emphasized the point by a person's willingness to "hate" that competitive relationship! (That is radical discipleship!)

Jesus: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:26-27)

This passage is clear: By Jesus taking up the cross, He had to reject His previous role of looking after His mother, Mary. (He handed that off to one of His disciples, John). That rejection comes across as "hate" -- a lack of embrace; a willingness to even leave that person behind. But it's because He embraced the cross. If our embrace of our spouse gets in the way of embracing our cross, then we CANNOT be His disciple!

The Q of choice for Mormons is: Will they embrace the cross & thereby commence their road to discipleship? Or will they choose the route of treating a spouse as equal to Jesus the savior as the route "to obtain the purification necessary to get back into the presence of God?" (Jesus is the ONLY route to be purified & regain a footing in God's presence)

Jesus realized that men would place competitors to the cross:
some capitulate to family peer pressure of a parent -- and won't convert for that reason;
some elevate a girlfriend/boyfriend/potential spouse or spouse beyond the God-given role they are to be;
but without even waiting for individuals to do this, Mormon hauls it wholesale right into their religion!

From the article: "There is a limit to our spiritual development as long as we are single. There is a spiritual development which can only be obtained when a man and a woman join their incomplete selves into a complete couple," he said. "Just as conception requires the physical union of male and female, perfection requires the union of the very souls of male and female...Although single men and women can accomplish great things on their own, they are incomplete until united..."

You hear that world? Mormons call singles "incomplete"; and it won't be Jesus bringing you to heaven to make you perfect there or to purify you via His blood. Nope, it's a wedding ring that supposedly does that. (Talk about religious ritualism run amok!)

Great post! Thanks for sharing this great talk. Full of divine truth.

Those of you with issues or questions should seek clarification from sources other than biased anti-Mormons such as the many that seem to reside on the freerepublic religion section of this board.

On a side note, I just heard Glenn Beck say on the radio to question boldly your faith, question what you believe...

Hard to take anything he says seriously because of this apparent blind hypocrisy.

Great post! Thanks for sharing this great talk. Full of divine truth.

Why, that's sure "funny" that when 53,000 Lds missionaries go around asking people to "pray about the Book of Mormon," for some reason there's nary a verse in the BoM about women being divine.

And here the Lds Doctrine & Covenants says the Book of Mormon is the "fulness of the everlasting gospel."

Now here you'd think that degrees of glory; the ability to become a god; supposed highest-degree exaltation...would all be relevant to the Mormon gospel. I guess it's not. NONE of those things are mentioned in the Book of Mormon.

Isn't that called spiritual bait-and-switch? Asking people to pray about & accept spiritual content that isn't even present? Isn't that a form of spiritual fraud?

And where does it say in the Book of Mormon that you have to be married to be either pure, complete or be eligible to be in God's presence? If that's part of the "fulness of the everlasting gospel," what verse is it in the Book of Mormon?

If you were ever an LDS missionary, and you asked people to pray about the Book of Mormon, how were they to read & pray about something that's not there? How could they accept a "salvation proposal" when the proposal was lacking MOST of the vital details?

Don't Lds missionaries who do this engage in spiritual fraud?

Since you appear to be so well-informed, on this "divine truth" why don't YOU post this "clarification" right here on this thread? With sources and links, please.

I would be interested in seeing a mormon rebuttal of the points in this article.

Then you can explain why LDS doctrine and other publications AREN'T good sources to learn about the LDS...

The copy/pastes I refer to are the old and tired arguments against the LDS church. Not the content that is being misrepresented and/or ridiculed.

Seems the old and tired arguments stand BECSUE of the doctrine and other content that is be EXPOSED...

Until it is actually rebutted with substance the complaint falls flat...

A typical non-issue brought up by anti-Mormons. We both know the answer. We both know why.

I’m not sure why I am even answering you. I am imperfect and foolish I suppose.
