I am sorry Glenn but I cannot join you
Reformation Theology ^ | Pastor John Samson

I really like Glenn Beck. Though I have never met him in person, I have often watched his television programs and thought it would be so nice to have that kind of a guy as a friend. I imagine that he is far too busy and way too inaccessible for that to become a reality, but I do genuinely like the man. He is insightful, articulate, funny, and seems to want some great things for his family and our nation. I do think that sometimes he has one or two conspiracy theories that may not be fully justified - we shall see - but all in all, Glenn seems to be a really nice guy.

I share many of the same goals as Glenn. I speak as one born in England but now very much a U.S. citizen. All my children were born here in these United States and I live and pray for America to become in all reality, "one nation under God." I love America. I sincerely believe Glenn does too.

But I do have a problem - not a problem with him as a person in any way at all, but when he asks me to join him in praying for the very same things I wish for my country, I just cannot. I can pray for these things privately, and with fellow Christians, of course, and I do. I just cannot stand with Glenn in a public setting and be comfortable while I know he is praying to a false god. How could I ever say "Amen" at the end of his prayer that people would turn back to the god he serves? I just cannot do it. That is because Glenn Beck is a Mormon. The "god" he prays to is not in any way the same God as mine.

I know.. I know.. even saying this is politically and religiously incorrect, but I cannot help but say it. When Glenn Beck speaks of "god" we need to remember that he uses a different dictionary to Christians. The God of the Bible is One in essence and eternally exists in three co-equal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Mormons reject this completely, believing that there are many worlds controlled by different gods and the god of this planet was once a man. The Jesus of Mormonism is the begotten offspring of this exalted man in sexual union with one of his many wives, and this god lives on a planet circling a star named Kolob, and his "gospel" is the message of how you, too, can be exalted to godhood. Christianity is Monotheistic. Mormonism is the most polytheistic religion in the world. Doctrine matters folks and deceived people, deceive people!

A dear fellow Christian, in coming to understand where I am on this issue wrote to me today saying, "I like Glenn Beck and appreciate his effort to bring America back to her godly roots. He is doing a great job in uniting government, church, and media. He does speak from a Mormon perspective but still has a heart of seeing America return to God even though he might not have the same theological view as we do."

I responded by saying, " I understand you - but I cannot agree that Mormonism is in any way "godly." According to the Bible, there is nothing at all godly about false religion. Godliness is not just about acts of service, honor, integrity, courage and the like, as wonderful as these things are, but it also includes worship of the One true God and the avoidance of all forms of idolatry. Mormonism is idolatrous worship and when Glenn Beck prays, despite his intentions, he prays to a false god who cannot help either Mr. Beck or America."

I can remember reading about the worshippers of the golden calf. They had high family values and were absolutely sincere in their worship. Now I may not be the sharpest tool in the drawer, but I do tend to get the distinct impression that God didn't like the worship - yeah, the ground opening up and swallowing the worshippers.. hmmm... it does lead me to believe that God was somehow ticked, wouldn't you say?

And then I wonder what God would feel about a "prophet" in the Old Testament asking Baal to bring Israel back to its godly roots. I think in such times, he would be stoned. In Deuteronomy 18:20 God says to His people, "But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die."

God often tested His people by seeing if they would be true to Him even as false prophets tried to lure them away from Himself. God says, "If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst" (Deuteronomy 13:1-5).

Thank God for grace!!! (we don't stone false prophets now) but I believe God's feelings about false worship have not changed. As Glenn Beck calls this nation to pray for some very valuable, important and even vital things, I ask now, is God testing us in the same way today? Perhaps God has raised Glenn Beck up for this very purpose, to test our hearts. Just a thought!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, the one and only God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the eternal One, Yahweh, the great I AM, the Alpha and Omega, who is from everlasting to everlasting.

So, though I really like you Glenn, thanks for the invite, but I cannot join you.

I’m not sure what all that has to do with the deliberate distortion of Bible text.

Are you suggesting that while men have to go by, throuygh Jesus to get to God the father, women can just go on in free pass ???

Or that women need not apply to go to heaven at all ???

Kinda Moslem/Mormon thingy going on eh ???

got any problem with black folks going too ???

Meanwhile the LORD Jesus Christ of the Christian Bible came and shed His Blood on the Cross for the salvation of both men and women, black and white, from every nation ...

Men have no benefits of salvation above and beyond those of women...

So once again, little grasshopper...just for you this time...

Jesus said to circlecity, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man or woman comes to the father except by Me.” Jesus Christ, The Second Person of the Trinity, The Bible, John 14:6

BTW your name circlecity...is that like circleville ???

Like the Circleville Massacre where mormons cut the heads off those non-mormons ???

No, and my original post clearly said I wasn't suggesting that. But, one can't intentionally distort scripture, even if it doesn't necessarily change the meaning, just to be more PC. Deuteronomy and Revelation prohibit adding to or taking from scripture. If you can just add words at will to scripture, what makes that any different from the Mormons who added a whole book? And circlecity is a common nickname for Indianapolis, which is where I'm from.

'm sorry Rahab, but we can't join your plan to hide our spies.. you are a Baal worshiping prostitute and there is no way that God would ever use a Baal worshiper in his plans...-

Funny that you should mention that. Rahab took them in BECAUSE she feared the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. She repented and wanted to worship YHWH, not Ba'al. She is one of the few gentiles to be included in the OT elect of God, and she became part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ,

I have always been interested in knowing why, of all places the spies ended up in a prostitute's home, after all it would make just as much tactical sense to go to an inn. All that I am left with is that at least one of these men was unmarried at the time and his "loins ached." One legend has it that Rahab married one of the spies Salmon, and from that we get Boaz, who begot Obed through Ruth, then Jesse who gave us King David.

Nice try at being snarky though, it does make for a good point - we could embrace Glenn on terms of faith if he would jettison his modernized Jupiter/Zeus worship and take on the real Almighty God - as Rahab wisely did.

Another take-away point. Her new found faith in the True God didn't save the city of Jericho from destruction. Reaching back further, it didn't spare Sodom and Gomorrah, nor did evangelizing spare the antedilluvians. Sometimes God is just done with a nation, when that happens, what is the nominal Christian's Plan B? And why is that Plan B not her Plan A ?

***Oh why do the Faithful so furiously rage?***

As the author of this piece stated, he likes Beck, politically he’s with Beck.

So am I.

But I can not, and will not, stand with him at a religious event and act like all religions are equal.

I value Christ’s perfect work to much to put my soul at risk.

If America looks at Beck as it’s new spiritual leader we will be punished.

Even the righteous, which I assume you are, will be shocked about the Judgements and revelations which will come from Christ at the day of Judgement. It says so in Revelations.

Be prepared to be shocked about how he views the Mormons. That is all. It is not a direct curse on you, but on all mankind including myself.

Elsie, I don’t do deflections. Period.

While it may have been written tongue in cheek, the message was serious. When she first took them in, she would have no prior experience with their religion as it was many generations since the Israelites were in the area last (back to Abraham’s time). To the spies entering the city, she was a Baal worshiper who was helping. There is no indication they gave her a theological test, instead, they trusted God’s plan.

The battle lines, like then, are drawn now. Do you have faith in the plan or, are you presumptuous to think that one of those Mormons couldn’t be used? Just like the spies didn’t know how God was moving on the Baal worshiper Rahab’s heart, you don’t know what God is doing with Beck. All you know is the battle in front of you and the tools you are given.

AND that is the point.

The Mormon god is a false god. The Mormon god, if trotted out on the public stage will bring the wrath of the Triune God unto this country.

NO, I'm saying one can't arbitrarily change the words of the Lord. Why do you think you can change scripture at will and play God. Do you think you are God? It's clear you do. Why should any of us take someone seriously who thinks they ar God?

Thank you for your spiritually discerning post, it was right on the money. No flames because what you said is the truth.

Our first responsibility is to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Only He (not the "jesus" of Mormonism) can save men from themselves and from their sins. Only He can restore honor in a mans life and only He can restore any nation who's people put their faith in Him and in Him alone because God's Word is clear:

"Blessed is the nation who's God is THE Lord.

As to the reason why Mr. Beck has not come to an understanding of the truth regarding Mormonism and left the cult:

He is either willfully ignorant of Mormonism's heretical teachings.

Or he has put Mormonism to the test and still stays anyway knowing it is heretical, not biblical Christianity, not true for personal reasons = his wife would only marry him IF he converted to Mormonism.

Lastly, he stays because he is spiritually deceived and Satan, the "god of THIS world" has blinded his mind because he does not believe.

Whatever the case, in spite of Glenn Becks love of country, and constitution, and his desire to "Restore Honor;" the danger in mixing pseudo Mormon "spirituality" with politics he has the power to lead men to hell and eternal damnation if they decide to become, or remain Mormons as a direct result of his witness and testimony regarding Mormonism and Mormon doctrine.

The difference was than thin RED Line...

The foreshadowing of the saving Blood of Jesus

Rahab was told to put a RED string in her window so she and her family would not be killed by the Hebrews whan they attacked the city...

That meant she had to trust in the idea of that type and shadow of Blood to save her instead of her pagan household gods...

This is a type and shadow of the salvation of the NT because she had to trust the Hebrew spies and their God represented by that RED string...

Havent you ever wondered why she was told to use a RED one ???

Theres so much in that story that foretells Jesus...

But ya have to finally read it for yourself...

BTW Because of her faith Rahab is in the Hall of Fame in the 11th Chapter of Hebrews...

right in there with Abraham and Moses...

I thought I was the only one getting this creepy feeling that Glen was playing a bait and switch game. I used to really like to listen to him until he morphed into his new role as spiritual leader. America's descent into godlessness seems to being coming from all sides now. What does it benefit a nation to gain back republican, conservative leadership if we lose our national souls to another false god?
