Will This Be The First Time The World Sees The Ark of Covenant?

*Leaking roof in Ethiopian chapel 'will lead to relic being revealed'

*Ark contains Ten Commandments God 'gave' to Moses on Mount Sinai

*One holy monk is the only person allowed to see the holy box...

* ...but he'll need a hand carrying metre long wooden structure to new home

A very British problem of a leaky church roof could be about to give the world the chance to glimpse the legendary Ark of the Covenant.

That's because the claimed home of the iconic relic - a small chapel in Ethiopia - has sprung a leak and so the Ark could now be on the move.

The Ark - which The Bible says holds God's Ten Commandments given to Moses on Mount Sinai - is said to have been kept in Aksum, in the Chapel of the Tablet, adjacent to St Mary of Zion Church, since the 1960s.

According to the Old Testament, it was first kept in the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem for centuries until a Babylonian invasion in the 6th century BC.

Since then it's been the goal of many adventurers and archaeologists to find it. Most-famously, but also fictitiously, Indiana Jones was shown in the 1981 Steven Spielberg film Raiders of the Lost Ark.

There has also been a long-running claim from the Orthodox Christians of Ethiopia that they have had the Ark for centuries, and since the 1960s it has apparently been kept in the chapel.

This small and curiously-styled building is surrounded by spiked iron railings, and situated between two churches, the old and new, of St Mary of Zion in central Aksum.

No one has been allowed to see the holy object, described in scripture as being made from acacia wood, plated with gold and topped with two golden angels, except one solitary elderly monk...........

Obama should look inside just to verify that it’s authentic.

My opinion? (Yeah..everyone has one)..... is that the only reason to rebuild the Temple would be to house the Ark....that was the original intent —to have a permanent spot for the Holy of Holies so that it was no longer housed in the Tabernacle tent that traveled with the Israelis in their 40 years of wandering...

I think the church there is looking for some money to fix the roof. Maybe there is a fund to send them a few dollars to restore the ancient church? As believers who face Islamic radicals each day—they need the support of all Christ Believing people world wide.

I have my doubts about this being the Ark of the Covenant, but wouldn’t want to spoil anyone’s fun.

Have you read Graham Hancock's "Sign and the Seal"? Or Issiah Chapter 18?

Hancock has a fairly persuasive analysis of how and when the Ark got there which differs from the Ethopian legend but looks like a reasonable case.

What about that 200 ft hole on that island (Nova Scotia) that no one can drain? I thought the Knights Templar buried it there. More mythology!

also contains the staff of Aaron, and a sample of mana.

Don't forget the "five golden emerods & five golden mice", to commemorate the return of the Ark by the Phillistines.

And good luck finding enough ritually clean Levites of the Families of the Kohathites to man the poles, after it has been properly draped by a consecrated Priest of the Family of Aaron...

**also contains the staff of Aaron, and a sample of manna.***

Not necessarily.

1 Kings 8:9 tells how there was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone.

The staff of Aaron and the pot of manna may have been removed and could have been the reason for God punishing the people for looking into the Ark, 1 Sam 6:19.

well i don't think the golden emerods and mice were in the ark, but carried alongside it in a cart drawn by oxen when the philistines decided they had enough trouble from stealing it in the first place.

the oxen were killed and the cart used to build a fire to bar b q the oxen. no mention of what happened to the emerods.

you have to appreciate God's touch in giving the philistines “emerods” for messing with the Ark. nice touch dont you think?

emerod=hemorrhoid

Those were in a separate container, not IN the Ark.

Have you read Graham Hancock's "Sign and the Seal"?

Hancock didn't completely convince me, but he gave me an itch to see Ethiopia that I hope to scratch someday. I enjoyed the book.

(Blush) Been awhile since I’ve read Samuel; indeed, the mice and ‘emerods’ were not inside the Ark, but next to it on the cart, in a separate container.

"To clarify: it is your opinion that the Ark of the Covenant was an idol?

No, you muddied up the waters, you clarified nothing. I wasn't speaking of the past, although, it likely would have been an idol to the Jews of the Apostle Paul, had they had it available.

If it were to be found today, it would be worshiped by millions as an idol. Whatever it is in Ethiopia is likely a replica or imposter. Nevertheless, it will be worshiped by millions of Christless (never have been born of God's Spirit) professing Christians ("Christendom").
