Mary: Mother of God?
What Does the Bible say? ^ | 01/11/2012 | Bro. Lev Humphries,

Mary: Mother of God?

This article is prompted by an ad in the Parade Magazine titled: "Mary Mother of God: What All Mankind Should Know." The offer was made for a free pamphlet entitled "Mary Mother of Jesus" with this explanation: "A clear, insightful pamphlet explains the importance of Mary and her role as Mother of God."

This is quite a claim, to say the least! Nowhere in the Bible is Mary said to be the mother of God. I touched on this subject in a series on "Mary Co-Redeemer with Christ" printed recently.

Question: If Mary is the Mother of God, Who, may I ask, is the Father of God? Does God have a Father, and if He does, Who is His Mother?

The phrase "Mother of God" originated in the Council of Ephesus, in the year 431 AD. It occurs in the Creed of Chalcedon, which was adopted by the council in 451 AD. This was the declaration given at that time: "Born of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God according to the Manhood." The purpose of this statement originally was meant to emphasize the deity of Christ over against the teaching of the Nestorians whose teaching involved a dual-natured Jesus. Their teaching was that the person born of Mary was only a man who was then indwelt by God. The title "Mother of God" was used originally to counter this false doctrine. The doctrine now emphasizes the person of Mary rather than the deity of Jesus as God incarnate. Mary certainly did not give birth to God. In fact, Mary did not give birth to the divinity of Christ. Mary only gave birth to the humanity of Jesus. The only thing Jesus got from Mary was a body. Every Human Being has received a sinful nature from their parents with one exception: Jesus was not human. He was divine God in a flesh body. This is what Mary gave birth to. Read Hebrews 10:5 and Phil 2:5-11.

Please refer to Hebrews 10:5 where we see. "...Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me."

The body of Jesus was prepared by God. In Matthew 1:18, "she was found with child of the Holy Ghost."

The divine nature of Jesus existed from before eternity, and this cannot be said of Mary Jesus never called her "mother". He called her "woman".

This doctrine deifies Mary and humanizes Jesus. Mary is presented as stronger that Christ, more mature and more powerful that Christ. Listen to this statement by Rome: "He came to us through Mary, and we must go to Him through her." The Bible plainly states that God is the Creator of all things. It is a blasphemous attack on the eternity of God to ever teach that He has a mother. Mary had other children who were normal, physical, sinful human beings. In the case of Jesus Christ, "His human nature had no father and His divine nature had no mother."

It is probably no coincidence that this false doctrine surrounding Mary was born in Ephesus. Please read Acts 19:11-41 and see that Ephesus had a problem with goddess worship. Her name was Diana, Gk. Artemis. You will not have to study very deep to find the similarities between the goddess Diana and the Roman Catholic goddess, Mary. It should be noted that the Mary of the 1st century and the Mary of the 20th century are not the same. Mary of the 1st century was the virgin who gave birth to the Messiah. Mary of the 20th century is a goddess created by the Roman Catholic Church. A simple comparison of what the Bible teaches about Mary and what the Roman Catholic Church teaches about her will reveal two different Marys. Mary is not the "Mother of God." If she were she would be GOD! There is only one true, eternal God. He was not born of a woman. Any teaching on any subject should be backed up by the word of God. If it cannot be supported by Scriptures, it is false doctrine.

It is late and I have to get ready for a market. So I am posting a link to Anathasius’ “On The Incarnation.” Which explains the orthodox Christian teaching on this.

But even if you attend> a Protestant Church such as ‘The Big Oak Tree Church where Jesus lives’ is better than NO Church.

Really?

Some of the most godly people I know think that going to church is tertiary for them.

A Christians walk with his God should be so well grounded that attending worship services on Sunday mornings can be optional.

Anyone who *needs* to attend church isn't walking with the Lord like they should.

The Christian life is a 24/7 thing, not a Sunday AM at the church down the street thing.

>>I did post Scriptures on how Jesus created his Church.<<

And it was not the RCC. The RCC claims they have replace Israel and God doesn’t like that. You may want to read in Revelation 1-3 what happens to those who say they are Jews but are not.

Your ideas and beliefs are very wrong. I’m not knocking you, you’ve been misled by your preachers and your “feel good” sermons.

I don’t understand why one would hate the Mother of God as much as you seem to. The Virgin Mary. Please pray about what her “yes” meant to the world. She wasn’t just a stupid girl who got knocked up by the Holy Spirit. She could’ve said, “no”! God isn’t a rapist. Protestants have no idea of the fullness of truth. I’ll pray for you.

I am aware that they remained in Jerusalem as Jesus told them to do until the coming of the Holy Spirit, but there is nowhere in Scripture that says they remained there the whole time, or that there were only Jews among them.

In Acts, Peter is said to have traveled to Joppa from Lydda.
Peter also goes to Cornelius in Caesarea. So, I guess that would discount the notion that he remained in Jerusalem the whole time.

Acts, written by Luke, a disciple of Paul, tends to speak mostly of Paul and not the others. Are we to believe that because they are not mentioned, they are not also acting as missionaries? That is a mistake made by those who think if it isn’t recorded in Scripture, it didn’t happen.

It is easy to think that Paul was the only one, since Paul did a great deal of writing whereas, Peter and the others did not.

They were not educated men like Paul, and they were not the prolific authors that Paul was. But, they were as committed to spreading the Gospels as Paul. In fact, all but John died for that Gospel.

Paul, like them served a purpose for which the Lord called him and prepared him, some of which was obviously to record in writing the message of Jesus.

I can’t recall the name of this heresy but am pretty sure it was refuted by St.Anathasius.

Sorry but you'll have to do better than that...Your Anathasius didn't refute anything...Disagreeing with something is not refuting it...

Perhaps in you “philosophy” off-time, you could learn to spell...

Spelling is not the issue, typing is, I have a physical problem with my hands, and I did not bother to hit the "spell check", I hope that my handicap does not offend you.

The Christian life is a 24/7 thing

Posting around 50 posts in one day on FR is not Christian. It's the sign of someone who is addicted to self who is screaming out inside for attention.

Perhaps taking a break would be good?

Actually, how could she have said "no", when, according to your Church, SHE was immaculately conceived and was sinless...her whole life... saying "no" would have been a sin against God, would it not?

What is it about Catholics? If non-Catholics simply believe what the Bible says about Mary, then we are the heretics and haters. Not one non-Catholic has EVER stated any hatred of Mary. That's a stupid accusation to level at anyone.

That doesn’t change the fact that the human body of Christ died and went to the grave. It can be no other way.

Your typing does not offend me. Your comment about “inane responses” did. If a person spent as much time in God’s Word as he does in man’s words, our conversation would be MUCH different.

***Human in all respects.***

Save one, sin.

***Please show that explanation from the RCC. You wouldn’t want us to think that you speak and interpret on your own would you?***

Jesus is truly human in that He had a body, soul and an intellect and free will. Jesus is perfectly human in that He gave all of that to God in perfect obedience. As He said of the first of the greatest commandments, “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.”

He is the model which we are to follow, The Way to perfection.

***So did God die on the cross?***

No

What a shame the some think they “go to” church when scripture teaches that those who believe “are” the church. Those of us who are truly part of the church assemble with other members of the church. We don’t “go to” church and then “leave the church”.

You are the ‘Pope’ of your own church, that’s all. You interpret Scripture to suit your purposes & you tell incorrect things about the Catholic Church. Please continue reading the Bible & please read the documents of the Catholic Church. Everything is on line now days.

But first of all you need to pray for the Christian Virtues of Faith, Hope, & Love. Especially, Love as all is meaningless without it. A religion based on hate does not work.

No<<

So you would say just the human body died? Thus there was a separation of some sort?

The best way I have found is to type you post in something like Word or Wordperfect and use it’s automatic spell check then cut and past.

And did it occur to you, or any other Catholic for that matter, that God knew ahead of time that she’d be willing to carry the Messiah?

Hello? He wasn’t asking her permission. The angel was telling her what He was going to do and when, knowing full well that she would not object.

Nevertheless, her co-operation was not necessary.

God gave assignments to lots of people in Scripture to do jobs they didn’t want to do. She certainly wouldn’t have been the first if she had objected.

You do understand about the sovereignty of God, don’t you?
