Pres. Obama’s “Plan B” compromise, Sr. Keehan, and the Magisterium of Nuns

The ultimate cause of this situation was the failure of the bishops and clergy fully to support Humanae Vitae after the it was issued in 1968. The background of this was 1) the anti-Roman impulse coming out of the Council, 2) the pushing of reform by modernist clergy and elite laity, and 3) the said fact that for years priests had been telling women in the confessional that the Church was about to changes its teaching on birth control. A largely lay committee had recommended such a change. Humanae Vitae was thus construed as a veto of a “democratic” movement in the Church aimed at coming to terms with modern life. Now I must admit that I was all happy with what was going on. It was only after the disaster of the Abortion decisions that I began to look at things, differently, and really not until about 20 years ago, did it began to “get” what the pope’s real message was. The proof positive, to me, came after the 1992 election when Gays began their now successful movement to overthrow tradition marriage in this country. The disjunction of procreation from the sex act, is the basis of all this. Without this as a fundamental principle, marriage is no more than a sham.

I have been surprised by Wuerl’s ambivalence? He has been acting like a careerist, the type who has always been the bane of the Church.

I hope they see this is only the first skirmish in the battle. Right now they have the high ground. I hope they are smart enough not to give it up. The left will seize an opportunity to defect to Obama, because they see in him their hope of winning control of the Church.
