I was thinking that too. It’s kinda like saying you are a lesbian trapped in a man’s body.
You ignored the next sentence in his post: “After many more things happening, we left the church.”
—Likewise, when he told John, “Behold your Mother” and told his Mother, “Behold your son”, many Christians believe that applies not only to simply John, but to all Christians down through the ages too, so she becomes in a sense our Mother too, and we become her children. —
OTOH, maybe he was saying that John was to take care of Mary as though she were his mother.
But I am beginning to see where Catholicism errs: It finds way too many things between the lines. It is as if it is “too smart by half”.
But I am beginning to see where Catholicism errs: It finds way too many things between the lines. It is as if it is “too smart by half”.
But it’s worse. When the bible speaks plainly (refers to Jesus’ mother and brothers), to preserve it’s teaching that Mary never had sex, they must twist the scripture in unconscionable ways to make His brothers into “cousins”.
So Catholicism sees things between the lines and misses the clear meaning of the lines themselves.
Yeah, I didnt think so. Faith is to be in Christ not in Mary or some guy in a pointy hat in Rome who has tried to usurp the position of Christ. The entire myth surrounding the veneration of Mary and designation as queen of heaven has its roots in paganism and not in scripture. Catholicism has become a mix of pagan rituals and symbolism most of which were condemned by God in scripture.
—May I suggest you prepare a rebuttal of The 95 Thesies rather than setting up carefully worded straw-man arguments.—
This.
—Are you opposed to the recitation of Scripture?—
A “Hail Mary” is not a recitation of Scripture.
Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Hebrews 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Rom. 3:28-30, "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one."
Rom. 4:5, "But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,"
Rom. 5:1, "therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,"
Romans 9:30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
Rom. 11:6, "But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace."
Paul rebukes Peter for applying rules for salvation.
Gal. 2:16, "nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified."
Gal. 2:21, I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.
Could one of the Catholics please respond to my comments about the Ustasha? Please try to defend this to me. How does this follow your Apostolic Tradition, which proceeds from the Holy Spirit?
Not only were their crimes against humanity so heinous as to be decried by the Nazis, they (the priests and friars doing the executions) would toy with their victims and take photos with them right before they began to torture them.
Their favorite use of torture was to use hammers and smash their victim’s skulls. On children they used rubber mallots.
This was all with the full knowlege of Pope Pius. Somehow, this group and its activities have been scrubbed from our history books.
Please stop with the pious “We’re the only ones. We gave you the Holy Scriptures”. What matters are your actions. If this is the actions of “the only ones”, I’ll take my chances elsewhere.
Great post. Welcome home.
To God be the glory for preserving His own words:
God's Name is I AM.
Thanks for pinging me, my FRiend. Here we have just another poor wayward soul who wandered off the trail and fell into the Tiber. Sad. But, God is managing even his/her error. Jesus knows His sheep and He will not lose a one.
Um, that is essentially what you said in your vanity. In addition, you lumped Bible only Christians who you claim are anti-Catholics in with the likes of obama and maher.
I’m curious how you hear His voice? Is it through the Holy Spirit during your Bible study? God speaks to us through the Bible, through our prayer time, through our circumstances, and through the church (meaning the entire body of believers - regardless of denomination). If you are discrediting the book of Matthew, but uplifting the Psalms, how do you determine which books of the Bible are relevant and which are not?
One of the arguments I often hear is that there are so many denominations in Protestantism. This is a bad thing? People are studying the scriptures and praying and seeking and discussing. As a result, bodies of believers are drawn together to further discuss. It’s not “group think”, but it’s people digging in and seeking God. Home church groups spring up and eventually grow to needing larger spaces. They may call themselves this or that, but they are seeking God through a personal relationship with Him. The sign over the door doesn’t matter. The relationship to God is what matters.
You’re all STILL carrying on about this?! Good grief!
Do you really believe that God did not know and intend BEFOREHAND that His revelations through the prophets and the apostles would be gathered together in one book—His instructions to us during this time???
PS: that’s just a rhetorical question. No need for you to answer.
Just as not everyone who says "Lord, Lord" will enter the kingdom of heaven, not everyone who claims to be Catholic is of the Church or of God.
So, the “Infallible Pope” who was the head of the “One True Church”, was not really a part of the Church? This whole episode and its cover-up is ok with you, based on one statement? How could the Vicar of Christ, who is infallible, get a pass on this one? Can you understand how people could be very critical of the Catholic church, and thereby repulsed by the teachings that they are the only one, when in order to be a believer of this doctrine, they have to turn a blind eye to these actions? They just poo-poo this whole event? That, my friend, is very sad.
On the other point, it is a gift of God that we know His voice when we hear it, i.e. "ears to hear."
The ones Jesus is addressing below physically heard His words (sound or pressure waves) but they could not spiritually hear Him:
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and [their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should understand with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
But blessed [are] your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. Matthew 13:14-16
if I can convince my best friends' mom to put in a good word for me, what's to lose??
