If you want a true blessing on this, the most sacred of days, listen to this rendition of He's Alive.
The most amazing part of the production of this song was that it was performed Live on National T.V. in 1989 during the Country Music Awards and what a blessing it was (and is).
Whatever happens to us as a Nation, we must remember that this is truly what it is all about.
I hope this blesses you as much as it has me.
He's Alive! He's Alive! He's Alive and I'm Forgiven! (as I so desperately need His forgiveness)
Death and Satan have been conquered!
And just before the sunrise I heard something at the wall The gate began to rattle And a voice began to call I hurried to the window Looked down into the street Expecting swords and torches And the sound of soldiers' feet
But there was no one there but Mary So I went down to let her in John stood there beside me As she told me where she'd been She said they've moved Him in the night And none of us know where The stone's been rolled away And now His body isn't there
So we both ran towards the garden Then John ran on ahead We found the stone and empty tomb Just the way that Mary said But the winding sheet they wrapped Him in Was just an empty shell And how or where they'd taken Him Was more than I could tell
Oh something strange had happened there Just what I did not know John believed a miracle But I just turned to go Circumstance and speculation Couldn't lift me very high [From: http://www.elyrics.net/read/d/dolly-parton-lyrics/he_s-alive-lyrics.html] 'Cause I'd seen them crucify Him Then I saw Him die
Back inside the house again The guilt and anguish came Everything I'd promised Him Just added to my shame When at last it came to choices I denied I knew His name And even if He was alive It wouldn't be the same
But suddenly the air was filled With a strange and sweet perfume Light that came from everywhere Drove shadows from the room And Jesus stood before me With His arms held open wide And I fell down on my knees And I just clung to Him and cried
Then He raised me to my feet And as I looked into His eyes The love was shining out from Him Like sunlight from the skies Guilt in my confusion Disappeared in sweet release And every fear I ever had Just melted into peace
He's alive yes He's alive Yes He's alive and I'm forgiven Heaven's gates are open wide He's alive yes He's alive Oh He's alive and I'm forgiven Heaven's gates are open wide He's alive He's alive Hallelujah He's alive He's alive and I'm forgiven Heaven's gates are open wide He's alive He's alive He's alive I believe it He's alive Sweet Jesus
I absolutely LOVE that song, especially by Dolly Parton! I get goose bumps every time I hear it. When my youngest son was just 2 years old, I brought the record over for my mother to hear. At that time she had the device the Clapper for her light over her kitchen table. She had the light turned off as it was daytime. When the part of the song where she belts out “He’s Alive!” the light suddenly came on and my little one burst out crying.
Great song. I forgot about it.
I never heard this song before. Thanks so much for posting the link. Wow.
Simon Zelotes speaking after the Crucifixion. Fere=Mate, Companion.
Ha’ we lost the goodliest fere o’ all
For the priests and the gallows tree?
Aye lover he was of brawny men,
O’ ships and the open sea.
When they came wi’ a host to take Our Man
His smile was good to see,
“First let these go!” quo’ our Goodly Fere,
“Or I’ll see ye damned,” says he.
Aye he sent us out through the crossed high spears
And the scorn of his laugh rang free,
“Why took ye not me when I walked about
Alone in the town?” says he.
Oh we drank his “Hale” in the good red wine
When we last made company,
No capon priest was the Goodly Fere
But a man o’ men was he.
I ha’ seen him drive a hundred men
Wi’ a bundle o’ cords swung free,
That they took the high and holy house
For their pawn and treasury.
They’ll no’ get him a’ in a book I think
Though they write it cunningly;
No mouse of the scrolls was the Goodly Fere
But aye loved the open sea.
If they think they ha’ snared our Goodly Fere
They are fools to the last degree.
“I’ll go to the feast,” quo’ our Goodly Fere,
“Though I go to the gallows tree.”
“Ye ha’ seen me heal the lame and blind,
And wake the dead,” says he,
“Ye shall see one thing to master all:
‘Tis how a brave man dies on the tree.”
A son of God was the Goodly Fere
That bade us his brothers be.
I ha’ seen him cow a thousand men.
I have seen him upon the tree.
He cried no cry when they drave the nails
And the blood gushed hot and free,
The hounds of the crimson sky gave tongue
But never a cry cried he.
I ha’ seen him cow a thousand men
On the hills o’ Galilee,
They whined as he walked out calm between,
Wi’ his eyes like the grey o’ the sea,
Like the sea that brooks no voyaging
With the winds unleashed and free,
Like the sea that he cowed at Genseret
Wi’ twey words spoke’ suddently.
A master of men was the Goodly Fere,
A mate of the wind and sea,
If they think they ha’ slain our Goodly Fere
They are fools eternally.
I ha’ seen him eat o’ the honey-comb
Sin’ they nailed him to the tree.
Wow! What an experience that must have been.
I remember this CMA in 1989. I could not believe what I was seeing on National TV and remember breaking down myself. What a blessing.
And although we can never really know another person’s heart I believe that Dolly Parton, by the time the curtain raised on the choir, was in a full blown worship mode. I believe the Holy Spirit was present at that moment and by the end of the song you can see it on her face (imo). It started off as a typical, sing the song as an introduction but by the end...she was in full worship mode.
Can you imagine that playing on National TV in 2012? Even in 1989 the ridicule and rejection of Christ had started; that’s what was so amazing (to me) to see that this was performed even then. Notice the audience........most on their feet.
Because they all know: He’s Alive! Death, Satan and Hell have been conquered!
(sorry...I get a bit excited lol)
Hope it was a blessing for you. Happy Easter!
Thank you so much. I have never seen her sing this song. It was a wonderful experience
Yqw. so glad you enjoyed it.
I understand that excitement. We have every right to be excited at the reality of His love, His death and then His Resurrection for us! Praise God!
