Time to End the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Al Smith Dinner?
Archdiocese of Washington ^ | 9/3/2014 | Msgr. Charles Pope

Posted on 09/04/2014 1:39:19 AM PDT by markomalley

The time for happy-clappy, lighthearted engagement of our culture may be nearing an end. Sometimes it takes a while to understand that what used to work no longer works. Let me get more specific.

Decades ago the “Al Smith Dinner” was a time for Republicans and Democrats to bury the hatchet (even if only temporarily) and come together to raise money for the poor and to emphasize what unites us rather than what divides us. But in the old days the death of 50 million infants was not what divided us. We were divided about lesser things such as how much of the budget should go to defense and how much to social spending. Reasonable men might differ over that.

But now we are being asked to raise toasts and to enjoy a night of frivolity with those who think it is acceptable to abort children by the millions each year, with those who think anal sex is to be celebrated as an expression of love and that LGBTQIA… (I=intersexual, A= Asexual) is actually a form of sanity to which we should tip our hat, and with those who stand four-square against us over religious liberty.

Now the St. Patrick’s Parade is becoming of parade of disorder, chaos, and fake unity. Let’s be honest: St. Patrick’s Day nationally has become a disgraceful display of drunkenness and foolishness in the middle of Lent that more often embarrasses the memory of Patrick than honors it.

In New York City in particular, the “parade” is devolving into a farcical and hateful ridicule of the faith that St. Patrick preached.

It’s time to cancel the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Al Smith Dinner and all the other “Catholic” traditions that have been hijacked by the world. Better for Catholics to enter their churches and get down on their knees on St. Patrick’s Day to pray in reparation for the foolishness, and to pray for this confused world to return to its senses. Let’s do adoration and pray the rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet unceasingly for this poor old world.

But don’t go to the parade; stay away from the Al Smith Dinner and all that “old school” stuff that hangs on in a darkened world. And as for St Patrick’s Day, it’s time to stop wearin’ the green and instead take up the purple of Lent and mean it. Enough of the celebration of stupidity, frivolity, and drunkenness that St Paddy’s day has become. We need penance now, not foolishness. We don’t need parades and dinner with people who scoff at our teachings, insist we compromise, use us for publicity, and make money off of us. We’re being played for (and are?) fools.

End the St Patrick’s parade. End the Al Smith Dinner and all other such compromised events. Enough now, back to Church! Wear the purple of Lent and if there is going to be a procession, let it be Eucharistic and penitential for the sins of this age.

For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world!

How say you?

Could you talk to him about the drastically lower life expectancy, the extreme incidence of alcoholism and drug abuse, etc., that correlate with homosexual activity? When you don’t want to bring up a moral point - perhaps because the person is an atheist, as your friend is - a point about mortality might at least be taken as kind concern, rather than judgmentalism.

We went dry at the same time. November 17th, 2009. Him at 22:00, me at 20:03 (I had a drink to finish, and we are 2 hours apart). So that bit is a no, though a nice idea. So much of this is screaming “none of my business” its hard to even talk about it.

There is something to be said for leaving the partying to the amateurs.

What about this?

September 7, 2014

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 Ez 33:7-9

Thus says the LORD:
You, son of man, I have appointed watchman for the house of Israel;
when you hear me say anything, you shall warn them for me.
If I tell the wicked, “O wicked one, you shall surely die, ”
and you do not speak out to dissuade the wicked from his way,
the wicked shall die for his guilt,
but I will hold you responsible for his death.
But if you warn the wicked,
trying to turn him from his way,
and he refuses to turn from his way,
he shall die for his guilt,
but you shall save yourself.

Does it say that you must harangue evildoers day and night, month after month, year after year? Try that with your neighbors. Try it with co-workers. Try it with your children.

That Scripture applies primarily to public persons like Dolan—who stands condemned by it.

“We have watched this admin refuse to enforce certain laws of ours they do not like and impose new ones we never approved.”

It happened under Carter and Klintstone, too.

And we don’t do anything because we keep hoping that the next election will turn it around. However, the Stupid Party is no real opposition, and the Evil Party has a large number of people flim-flammed to the point that if the Kenyan Cretin told them to, they’d shoot themselves in the heart.

We must also remember, and try to communicate, the incredibly vast scare of their election fraud.

“He’s one of the most stubborn atheists you could ever meet though, even though he has had actual proof of the Lord’s love and protection. Several times now.”

So was I, and so did I. It took me sixteen years to come around, so there is hope for your friend.

I agree that we must make people aware of their election fraud. I saw it twice here in The Nashville area. In 2008 I saw vans loaded with blacks that had NC plates here. I knew the vans did not belong here. In 2012 I saw even more people here who were out of place, but; the vehicles were not out of state in 2012. It was like they were bused in or had been here for a day or more. So many libs are voting in a state they moved from as well as the state they now live.

Good grief. I meant “vast scale.”

We'll see if he posts something tonight. I looked at comments on the post a while ago and he was getting a lot of threats from homosexuals. So while I think he may have pulled the blog post because of the tenor of the comments, it is entirely possible that one of Wuerl's squishy friends may have had something to do with it.

A link below to his explanation. In addition to that it sounds like he has been bounced from the website:

I am grateful to the Archdiocese of Washington that has generously sponsored our conversation on this site for five years.

Makes it hard for me to be fair. I’m going to consign a very good friend to hell?

You didn't ask for my opinion but you are going to get it.
You are correct to keep loving your friend, homosexual or not. Your love/friendship isn't going to hurt ANYONE, especially those who know and love you.

Your friends will ALWAYS support yo, right or wrong.
Your enemies will ALWAYS hate you and what you do, no matter what.
The rest of the world doesn't matter.

It's GOD who will judge you and I'm pretty sure you are UP for the good place.

I love Msgr. Charles Pope a LOT. If he has to swallow a bunch of guff --- and even real injustice --- from his clueless ecclesiastical superiors, he's strictly following the typical script from the Lives of the Saints.

Ya could look it up! So, I'm keeping an eye on him. He's probably headed for sh*tstorms of persecution followed by grace. Also found in the Lives of the Saints.

Here’s something you might want to do:

Take your friend to a baseball game (or whatever you like to do together) have a beer together and ask him, “Dave” (assuming his name is Dave I don’t know why I’ve always liked that name) “what do you think is the reason for our existence?”

Something to help you get started:

The reason for our existence is not to figure out “how to get to heaven” and/or “how to avoid hell”. It’s just not. We aren’t to wake up every day looking to formulate a checklist of sorts of “things to do to please God” as if that alone solves the problem of our existence. Because our feeble theologies and ideas are worthless to God, not to mention our own ideas never really satisfy us anyway (if we’re really honest with ourselves) He doesn’t want everyone to be a theologian. Or even a checklist.

So given that, you might, if you engage in such a conversation, truly help your friend (and yourself). It’s something we all need to do really. Every day in fact. We all have to ask this question and seek an answer in a serious way, never settling for mere nice ideas but always crying out for the answer to the question, on a daily basis.

Otherwise we aren’t any more than a bipedal animal.

Otherwise we aren’t really human.

Thank you!

I’ll give it a try. I owe him, a lot, and it’s a great way to start the ball, maybe not rolling, but rocking a little bit.

Thank God you preserved the post Mark OMalley, since Monsignor Pope is being censored, and since he speaks the Truth, it boils down to God being censored.
