I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. Dear Father, we thank You for every blessing, and we ask for Your strength for every difficulty.

Lord, we pray for those among our troops who have been hurt in their service – physically, mentally, or emotionally – and who ache still. Give them healing, O Lord, and may Your peace be like water to their souls.

Lord, long ago You set the heavens in place and laid the foundations of the earth. Your hand marked out the horizon on the face of the deep; You established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, and You gave the sea its boundary, so the waters would not overstep Your command. Wisdom was the craftsman at Your side, and by Your knowledge and power You made all the wonders of the universe. From the burning stars to the cool drops of dew, everything is the work of Your hands. Teach us, Father, to rejoice in Your whole world, to delight in Your presence and in the people You have placed around us, in the Name of Jesus through whom all things were made, Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
