Pope Francis Equates Christian Fundamentalists to Islamist Killers & Terrorists

Pope Francis equated Christianity with Islam while leaving Turkey.

“We have our share of fundamentalists” too.

The pope also said fighting poverty and hunger were key to defeating Islamist killers. Ugh.

The Jerusalem Post reported:

Pope Francis said Sunday that equating Islam with violence was wrong and called on Muslim leaders to issue a global condemnation of terrorism to help dispel the stereotype.

Francis, the leader of 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, told reporters aboard his plane returning from a visit to Turkey that he understood why Muslims were offended by many in the West who automatically equated their religion with terrorism.

Francis’ predecessor, Benedict XVI, caused storms of protest throughout the Islamic world in 2006, when he made a speech that suggested to many Muslims that he believed Islam espoused violence.

Benedict said he had been misunderstood and apologized. But this year, the image of a violent religion has once more been promoted by Islamic State, who have seized swathes of Syria and Iraq, slaughtering or driving out Shi’ite Muslims, Christians and others who do not share their radical brand of Sunni Islam.

The Argentine pope, who has been trying to foster cooperation with moderate Islam in order to work for peace and protect Christians in the Middle East, said it was wrong for anyone to react to terrorism by being “enraged” against Islam.

“You just can’t say that, just as you can’t say that all Christians are fundamentalists. We have our share of them (fundamentalists). All religions have these little groups,” he said.

Muslims slaughtered 683 innocents THIS WEEK.

Christian fundamentalists have killed no one.

Someone needs to talk with this pope.

Yes it is a huge number. I was like you when I first read it. You might check out Thomsett, Green, Dallinger. Now, please do not write to me again. It will not be productive for you or me or any freezer who choses to read our conversation.

Sorry, but your extreme exaggeration needs to be addressed.

Your conflation of historical repressions and killings with absurd numbers is very troubling.

It is like the liberal claims of how many were enslaved and thrown overboard.

Ludicrous numbers pulled out of a hat.

Truth is of the essence and bearing false witness does not serve the cause iof Christ.

of course those nice protestants merely burned witches at the stake, right?.....

you lump the entire human existence and blame the Catholics for it.....Catholics are humans, and humans commit sins.....no worse than the Jews, the Baptists, the muzzies , etc...

Nostradomus supposedly predicted the end of the Catholic Church-

2.4. Death of the three popes / Catholic Church & the Antichrist

(Centurie IV, Quatrain 86)
The present pope will be assassinated and the next pope will not last long. The final pope will be a tool of the Antichrist. The Roman church is already the tool of the Antichrist, indirectly supporting his aims, even though they may not be aware of it.

(Centurie II, Quatrain 57)
The last three popes of the Catholic Church will fall in short succession. The third to the last will die from an assassin’s shooting. The second-to-last will be “swallowed up” by the schemings of the Antichrist. The last, the one born slightly misshapen, will go the greatest distance in destroying the church. The Antichrist will use him for a while until he gets his own position, at which point papas will be eliminated. His treachery will accelerate, and his death will signal the end of the Catholic Church.

I am not Catholic, and really have no right to an opinion about the Pope. Yet... The current one seems to be trying to destroy the Church and Christians in general?

Your opinion and conclusions are suspect.

Yea, well the Salem Witch trials, the puritans killed and tortured and burned at the stake over 130 million men women and children. And that’s in Salem alone.

Then there were the Chinese Buddhists that killed with their bare kung fu hands over 235 million in 13 years.

The Amish, they had secret gas chambers and gassed over 600m non believers.

And Jehovah Witness’s. They’re the worst of the lot. The torture over 200 million everyday.

Making up facts is fun, isn’t it?

Don’t forget the McCarthyism of the 1950s!

You know how shopping centers sprang up all over America in the 1950s. That was because they needed to pave over the graves of over TWO MILLION PEOPLE killed by Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

Estimated by people who are not in denial about their church’s history.

Absolutely he did NOT.

Bearing false witness is forbidden by the Ten Commandments.

TS mentioned the known history of the Catholic church, not the entire history of the known world.

I hope he simply ‘misspoke’, because otherwise he’s revealed himself as just another ignorant a—hole politician.

What are more reasonable estimates?

I’d really like to know, because I know it is not zero. I am also reasonably certain it is not anywhere near 70 million.

Could you tell me a bit about your sources: Thomsett, Green and Dallinger? I'd like to see where they are coming from. For example, your narrative of the Balkans in WWII appears to be the Serb version. Here is a balanced history. Also, the Spanish Inquisition was not as you portray it. - Thanks.

I didn’t realize Rosie O’Donnell became Pope.. because she espouses the same view.

That’s quite a prize winner the RCs have over there in Rome.

...and those were just the ones he PERSONALLY dispatched. Billions more died at the hands of his storm troopers.

...

This is fun!
