where will John soul spend eternity?

That's God's call.

It's not for us to know his heart. Only God can do that.

Unlike Catholics who like to ex-communicate and pronounce anathemas on everyone who doesn't agree lock step with them.

They think that they can judge people's eternal destiny on a minute by minute basis depending how whether they are adhering to Catholic teaching or not.

So it's rather ironic that you'd lay out a scenario and ask us to judge.

And besides, your hypothetical scenario is just that. Hypothetical and way too simplistic. But legalists are like that. They think everything is in black and white.

Exactly, that’s why Catholic have the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation/Penance.

Which is not recorded that the tax collector partook of them.

So any attempt to tie them into it fails.

Doesn't he ask forgiveness?

13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, `God, be merciful to me a sinner!'

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

On what I know of the Catholic Church, too, I’ve actually spent a lot of time over the last ten years learning of it, including to listening to many thousands of hours of Catholic radio, with hundreds of Catholic masses, and reading books such as Mother Angelica’s biography, and when questions come up, I look into things, and will keep doing so, even though the Catholic Church isn’t one of my top concerns as a Christian.

And there was no Catholic priest.

Against the faith found in Scripture, too, the Catholic Church visibly exalts itself.

**You will notice the Publican trusted nothing but the mercy of Jesus for his imputed righteousness... **

Exactly, that’s why Catholic have the Sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation/Penance.

Now there's a face palm moment...

There's the rub...There's the difference between you and the Publican...The Publican knew better that to waste his time with baptism and reconciliation/penance...Unlike you guys, he needed nothing except the mercy of Jesus Christ...

Those are the things the Pharisee was doing...You are describing yourself as a Pharisee...

Just like those who Jesus will say to. “Away from me, I never knew you” when they appeal to their works.

They appealed to miracles, casting out demons, and Catholics appeal to baptism and communion.

Works is works...

Are you an expert in the beliefs of any other Christian sects or only Catholism?

Actually the study of the theology of other denominations interests me...but as for the RC..I was a cradle Catholic..educated in RC schools through college .. In my RC life I gave talks at RC women's retreats, lectored and planned "liturgies "...So yea I do know RC doctrine ...and I know like the Mormons..they have another gospel

It is fabulous to read all about my faith from all the Protestant “experts” here on FR. Really remarkable how much you all “know” about us.
Still praying for you, Mom....

Born, raised and educated RC... so I do have some knowledge of RC doctrine.

I believe that RC's have not only a different gospel.. but a different god.

Catholics have not lost the Gospel.

Where are you getting these ill-informed ideas?

“Nice try...but the truth is Rome lost the gospel , that is what drove Luther to try to restore it”

Nice try...but even many Protestants now realize they had the wrong gospel, that is why they promote the “New Perspective on Paul.”

The “good news” is sinners can be reconciled to God thru the Body of Christ as a result of his sinless life and sacrifice on the cross for the sins of the world.

You claim to be a former Catholic and somewhat knowledgable in the Faith, yet you did not answer my question relative to the murderer and what the Faith teaches as to his salvation. Remember, not one good work was ever performed by this fellow. Don’t want to take a shot?

I am sure many believe Romans 10:9-10 teaches otherwise.
