False generalization. If "searching the Scriptures and became non-Catholic" (e.g. the author of this article) is a true general principle, and if "searching the Scriptures and became Catholic" is also a true principle (e.g. John Henry Newman, Dr. Scott Hahn, Steven Ray, and innumerable others), then we have a logical problem, yes? I'd gently suggest that it's possible to "search the Scriptures" and be led astray (cf. 2 Peter 3:16-17)... and I assert that the author of the article did precisely that.

If you read the biographies of these people you will see they did not become Catholic by reading scriptures...They became Catholic by rejecting scripture, changing scripture and for the most part, studying human philosophy where they were taught that what they reasoned was more valuable and accurate that the scriptures...

THAT, along with the Philosophical Catholic religion based on philosophy and intellectualism (man's failed reasoning) is what drew them to the Catholic religion...They educated themselves right out of believing God...

It's interesting to note that all of these bible rejecting thinkers have moved on to money making positions in your religion...

Making comments like that without reading the source material is really not wise.

:) Heavens, FRiend... you and metmom are competing for "ironic comment of the week", here! Did you miss my references to the source material, above, as well as my references to Presbyterian teaching (or lack of consensus, rather) on that very issue?

Making comments like that without reading the source material is really not wise... as a FReeper once said, rightly enough.

Your holier-than-thouness is showing. Shame on you for that kind of spiritual pride and judgment.

You will of course jump to admonish the non-Catholics on this thread for the exact same treatment they are giving Scott Hahn.

I was wondering why you have yet to answer the questions I asked you on the other thread.

Seems they have made him a Rock Star. Rock stars fail.

Seems all of their Rock Star mouth pieces are former Protestants...

Interesting. Can you supply quotes from their writings, to that effect? And when you do, can you please supply page number and edition, so that I can track the references down correctly?

Or is this your raw opinion?

Okay... make that THREE people who're vying for "irony of the week"! It's rather telling that your denunciation of logic is contained in a paragraph rife with logical errors...

It's interesting to note that all of these bible rejecting thinkers have moved on to money making positions in your religion...

I really don't quite know what you mean by that. As opposed to what? Starving to death? Tell me: what *IS* the maximum allowable income per year (for you, and RnMomof7, etc.), beyond which they're being money-grubbing and avaricious? Are they allowed to make $30,000/year? $80,000? Do you make allowances for number of children, and cost of living increases?

Second, who's claiming that anyone is a Christian because of the church they attend?

How many times have we read that ALL Catholics are Christians??? I'll bet you've said it yourself...

I have never seen anyone answer fewer questions on any thread than you...

Dragging one thread into another is forbidden...I'm sure you know that...Different thread...Different day...

You should have addressed this to mm, but as an aside most of the stuff you write doesn't deserve an answer. BTW same day.

Nope on both questions...When threads about Hahn and Staples and the others show up with videos or their writings revealed, there is ample biblical refutation of their theology posted...And I'm sure will happen in the future...

I don't keep a log of what these people falsely teach...

I really don't quite know what you mean by that. As opposed to what? Starving to death? My point is: these crossovers can go from one paying position in one organization, completely change their God ordained position in that religion and get re-God ordained and get paid to teach totally different beliefs in a different religion, without even going to a Catholic seminary...Seems a little fishy to me...

The guy had hands laid on him by two elders with no sanction from the church he claimed to be part of. He only did it to avoid taxes. The church he was a so called "pastor" in wasn't even part of the Presbyterian church. Look again.

"Mr. Hahn acknowledged these facts but offered an explanation. Trinity Presbyterian was an independent church with an average attendance of 30 when two of its elders laid hands on him in a private ceremony in 1982. He served as their Associate Pastor for about two years. The church remained independent until its closing in 1986. Mr. Hahn told me the reason for his private ceremony was because he did not feel he was very qualified to serve as an elder at age 26, but needed the ordination to take the pastor's exemption from Social Security."

He's in the same league as Al Sharpton or some other mail order pastor. He's fake, a fraud, a tax cheat, and appears after the dollar now.

>>Seems a little fishy to me...<<

No doubt about it. He got some fake "ordination" in order to cheat on taxes and now has a well paying gig with accolades. The boy does know how to play em!

Your flesh is nothing. You are taking one sentence and igoring everything else that Jesus says here.

What are you so afraid of?

We Catholics take Jesus literally. Protestants don’t yet they say they believe in the Bible.

But really you believe in only part of it.

>>We Catholics take Jesus literally.<<

You do? Do you have literal rivers of water flowing from your belly? Do you ever get hungry or thirsty? Have you gauged any eyes out? How about cut hands off? Do you believe John literally ate the scroll as he was told to? Do you think Jesus was literally bread?

Jesus said His words were spirit. Jesus would have been sinning against the command to not eat blood. Do you serve a Jesus that sinned?

So... are you calling Dr. Hahn a liar? His original account and the secondary account seem to mesh together, do they not? (Beyond that: given the splintering of the Presbyterians, is it really surprising that they've spawned numerous private places of worship which still consider themselves Presbyterian? Unless you're willing to consider every last Presbyterian "fragment" to be illegitimate, I'm not sure how this furthers your case.)

Uh, no. Having witnessed the process, that's not really how it works.

"All of Catholicism is unbiblical"

Catholicism believes in God and that Jesus is the Son of God and that Jesus died on the cross for the salvation of the world. I didn't know that Protestantism rejected those ideas. In other words, your statement is idiotic, possibly the most idiotic statement I've ever heard on FR, and I've heard a few.

In other words, your statement is idiotic, possibly the most idiotic statement I've ever heard on FR, and I've heard a few.

If Catholicism ACTUALLY believed what you just stated, and left it right there, they'd have it. But, the Catholic cult ADDS uncessary

Catholicism teaches:

that Mary is a mediatrix, which is unbiblical;
that she was taken bodily into Heaven -- unbiblical;
that she was born sinless -- unbiblical;

that Mohammedans worship the same God as Catholics -- unbiblical -- and in that particular case, makes Catholicism SATANIC in my book.

that salvation, as you stated is NOT by Christ alone, but by faith AND works -- unbiblical.

that there is a place called Purgatory -- doesn't exist and is unbiblical;

that Mary and other saints are to be prayed to -- which is idolatry -- and against biblical teaching.

So, to you, my statement my sound idiotic... and it may since you have been so thoroughly brainwashed by the Roman Catholic cult. But, if you would READ THE BIBLE, you will find that so much of what Rome has taught, and currently teaches, goes directly against what God teaches.

And, you might find the truth.

Reading the mind of another Freeper is a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
