Because Islam, as I have said many times, is a form of protestantism and was founded as a protest against the Church.

That's where I stopped.

Islam, as I have said many times, is a form of protestantism and was founded as a protest against the Church. . . . I would go so far as to say that Islam is a pre-Reformation protestant sect.

Islam is to Protestantism as basketball is to pottery.

Shoebat is a moonbat.

Odd rant. I have an image in my mind of Shoebat running around, hair in flames and arms waving, crying “The ProddyMoes are coming; the ProddyMoes are coming!”

Islam isn’t a form of protestantism. Islam is a prescription for world conquest and domination that wages war against all other religions, not just Christianity and not just the Catholic Church. However, I do not doubt that they they will attack the Vatican and try to kill the Pope.

Shoebat's opinion here is just an historically ignorant comment.

True.

Protestantism by definition is all the movements that originally split from the Western Church post the 14th century.

It does not include any movements prior to that and does not include any splits from the Eastern Orthodox or Assyrians or the Syriacs or the Copts

Islam does not fit into this definition.

Islam is a syncretic religion taking aspects of pre-islamic Arabic religions (such as djinn for example), merging it with Nestorian Christianity, Syriac, Gnostic forms of Christianity and with Judaism and Zoroastrianism -- this was not a split or a protest against Christianity -- Christianity was not a major religion in Makkah or Yathrib (what is now called Medina)

If anything, the major non-pagan religion there was Judaism

Mohammad saw a chance to unite the Arabic tribes initially using Judaism as a monotheistic uniting factor (but replacing Isaac with Ishmael as the sacrifice) and then he added Gnostic pieces (which is why Jesus in the Koran says things you don't find in the Bible but which you find in the Gnostic "Gospel of Thomas" and Jesus laughs when he is on the cross -- a Gnostic concept of Jesus not as a real man of blood and flesh -- Lady Heron, if you mean Gnostics instead of Marcionites I would agree -- because Marcion rejected the OT, while the Moslems don't.

Tones in the article like He said, with a tone of vitriol, “It doesn’t matter, they are both the same! I would not care at all if the Muslims invaded the Vatican, the Catholics are just as evil.” are, unfortunately true -- this does not include you freeper friends, but I have heard similar statements and probably non-Catholics have heard Catholics make the same stupid statement in reverse

I will state again as I've said before -- anybody who acknowledges Christ as Lord, God and Savior is on the same side as me against Moslems -- I even support Zoroastrians, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists against Moslems, even more so I support fellow Christians against Moslems

Christians have been fools twice before - when the Moslems invaded Egypt, the Copts supported them as they thought this would end their persecution at the hands of the Catholic-Orthodox. This was a mistake. Ditto when Orthodox lands were invaded -- Catholic lands put up paltry support until the Crusades

And finally, at the siege of Vienna, Lutheran Hungarians fought on the side of the Moslem Turks against Catholic Germans and Hungarians and Poles -- but the Lutherans are not the only fools, 200 years later Catholic France and Anglican England fought on the side of the Turks against Christian Russia preventing the retake of Constantinople to Christianity

Fellow freepers -- do not let history repeat itself. ANY Christian attacked by a Moslem is an attack on you

Where and by whom? Did Christians commit these atrocities?

There are differing opinions on exactly who Ezekiel 38 &
39 is talking about. Actually, due north of Israel on a
globe is TURKEY. ANKARA to be exact. - Russia may be
other than some think in this battle, and it isn’t exactly
as much due north as some think. - All I know is I don’t
wish to side with any country or idealogy that provokes
God’s anger to come up in His face! I’m suspecting
strongly that Mohammed and his hordes may just be cruising
for this big bruising! I’m not wishing it on them; but
they are the ones cruising.

I noticed that his conversation with an evangelical happened “years ago”. How many years? He would find that the evangelical view of the Crusades has changed quite a bit in the last decade, due to the activities of Islam and the fact that people are more educated about the real history of the Crusades now.

That may be true of some of the evangelicals, but there are a fair number here on FR that will disagree with that statement.

I’m not saying that their attitudes toward the Roman Church have changed, just their understanding of the timeline and reasons for the Crusades. I was addressing a very specific statement in that article.

“They could say that, but that is hardly a case.”

No, what I said is true.

“In the span of a few decades, God kicked the Muslims out of Europe, gave us the Reformation to close out the Middle Ages, and then gave us a new world to move to where his new church could flourish. America was founded on Protestant ideals.”

God has no “new church”. There is only the Church and later sects founded by heretics and schismatics.

LOL. The Church is the entire body of believers. The Roman Church is as much a sect as any other. It is merely the most successful sect, but it is not the first or oldest in existence.

Yep, the Roman Catholic cult is full of heretics and schismatics. Starts with people that like vampire names! Ends with leaders preaching Gaia love! They love to persecute and claim exclusivity.

OTOH, God started His church long before Rome started to corrupt the Scriptures with worship of idols and some mythical woman they liken to the mother of Jesus. The church is ALL believers.
