After my own experience I researched the situation on the net extensively ...
As I suspected; internet tourism, so to speak
But, I also remember going with him to an important one. At the door they became very upset that we wore crosses. They let him know that they wanted us to take our crosses off. It went down hill from there.
I suspected something like this as well; trying to wear a cross in a synagogue, being asked to remove it from their sight in their house of worship and refusing to do so.

You are nuts if you think it was OK for them to censor our crosses, absolutely nuts. You have lost all credibility with me. Please do not post back, thank you.

Their house, their rules and customs: I assume there exists some set of customs in the religious house you frequent.

Would you defend these Jews no matter how miserably they behaved themselves? If so than it is you who also is in the wrong. Never, and I mean never, would any Church I have ever gone to expect a Jew to take off their star of David. I believe my friend wore one when he visited our Church.
If any Synagogue actually has a rule that would say that a Christian visitor must remove their Cross, that in itself is utterly contemptible. It is also extremely hypocritical when the talk that day from the official was an extremely flowery talk all about the importance of tolerance, love and respect for those who are different than yourself.
I think that some Jews are afraid of Jesus because they fear that their young people will find out that He is true and come to Him.
Christians are not afraid of being exposed to the teachings of other religions. We know truth is on our side and welcome open, free dialogue. We know that in the exchange of free ideas the truth will come out and it will be victorious.
There isn't fear and unkind paranoia like these Jews displayed when love is truly in your heart. The Cross of Jesus shouldn't cause you to react like a vampire in a bad movie.
I have studied Judaism and learned from Jews, without the need for any fearful nastiness. Have you ever studied the belief in Jesus as your Messiah without knee jerk hatred and rejection of the idea? The best place to find Jesus clearly and unmistakably written about (unless you work very hard at refusing to see) is in the ancient sacred writings of the Jews. Read them all for yourself from beginning to end relying on The LORD to illuminate you. It is there you will find your Messiah, who is Jesus.

It may be their house and their rules but in my opinion the making of such a rule is contemptible, unkind and fearful, especially for those who trumpet forth their inclusionary tolerance. Total hypocriticalness and rudeness no matter how you want to slice and excuse it, rather in the rules or in impulse. Maybe they ought to just make a Christian strip down all together, or wear a band on their arm.
They would likely have bent over backwards to make a Muslim real comfortable just to prove there self proclaimed tolerance. If they are afraid of the truth they have no worries about Muslims, but must protect their children from being exposed to the light, lest they should come to it.

Do you tolerate guests bringing idols into your house of worship, Hare Krishna adherents for example ?

Maybe you should leave them alone, lest they be further blinded by prejudice posing as Christianity.

Don’t bother them in the least. Nor did I. Your assumptions are unfounded.
If a Catholic came into a born again Church with a St. Christopher’s medal on, which is essentially an idol, no Church that I am aware of would make him take it off. You are as ridiculous as they are. By the way the Cross isn’t an idol. No one worships their Cross that I know of.

Your comments against them, some of them conjecture ("If I were a Muslim", etc.) are a matter of public record.

A St. Christopher medal is not an idol unless you see St. Christopher as a deity. The Catholics properly view the saints as family. I'm not really into pictures myself, but I am not so weak to be easily offended or led astray by those who are. It's not that the cross is an idol either, no more so than a St. Christopher medal; some are weak and items become stumbling blocks, or partitions.
