Dear Catholic FReepers, I want to thank all of you for your prayers for my father (known here as history_matters). I want to ask more prayers from you because this afternoon he was taken back into ICU having suffered a TIA (transient ischemic attack) which is like a mini-stroke.
Yesterday was a rough day for Da largely because of a dream he had. I have his permission to print this dream here. I feel it is more than just a dream.
He was standing above the earth beside the Little Flower. She pointed to the USA and a number of cities lighted up; she said, "I have been here working". Then she began throwing roses down to the US as if she were trying to cover the nation. The roses landed in only a few places and all of the rest were blown from the Northeast across the nation until the roses were scattered in the Pacific Ocean . My father said he began to weep in his dream and his tears fell on the United States. St. Therese smiled at him and threw more roses, and where my father's tears struck the country there the rose from heaven seemed to take root. But again all of the other roses from St. Therese were blown from Los Angeles across the nation and into the Atlantic Ocean. My father and my sister Bernadette believe the dream means that the Little Flower like all of the saints longs to pour out roses (blessings) from heaven, but they can only find a place where there are tears of repentance.
Last night my father told my youngest brother that he had had another disturbing dream. Mother Seton was standing on a map of the US with a broom in her hand. There was a great pile of dirt where Baltimore and Washington, D.C. should have been. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton looked at my father and said, "We could use your shovel you know." And Mother Seton began sweeping filth off of the map and my father shoveled some of the filth off of the map. That dream ended.
My father was quite distressed about the dreams but believes we are being called to labor with the saints to clean up and save our Church whether it is prayers of tears or labor with our hands.
Da had the TIA about 3 pm this afternoon. He is now lucid and seems to have no serious residual symptoms from the TIA today. Nonetheless, I sincerely ask for your prayers for him. And I thank you with all my heart on behalf of my family.

Thank you for the update. How good to hear that your father has found peace. Now try to get him laughing. Laughter releases endorphins which accelerate the healing process. It cured Norman Cousins and it will work for your dad, too!! Find his funny bone and start tickling.
Pax et Bonum
The devotion you and your family have shown to your faith and your father has to bring a smile to the face of our Lord.
God bless

If you are silly then I am silly because I had exactly the same thought when I read Siobhan's update and before I read your response to it. Maybe h_m did indeed have a visit from a "real" nun, but the rose petal part is amazing to me.
I live in a rural community that is 95% protestant. Lately I have experienced anti-catholic sentiment from people in the community I thought were friends; some of it is subtle and some is not so subtle. The Catholic Caucus here has been like a lifeline to me, and your Da is a very special part of that fellowship.
I will continue to keep your Da and your family in my prayers. God bless you all.
God bless.
I don't know how many of you are Irish-American, but it is really rare to find speakers of Gaelic in America. My father and mother both had Gaelic as their mother tongue. So now I want to tell you about heaven's gift to my father today. I hope it is not presumptuous to see it as a particular gift from heaven for my father, but it certainly feels like such a blessing.
The nurse on the 12 hour shift caring for Da today is a young lass originally from Connemara, Ireland. Her name is Eileen, and she speaks Gaelic beautifully and fluently. You should see how happy Da is speaking with her. (He has already learned that she is unmarried, and Da wants me to introduce her to my son Finn. I can tell he's feeling better now that he's back to arranging marriages. ;^)
God bless.
Your in Christian Fraternity,

Sé do bheath' a Mhuire, atá lán de ghrásta, tá an Tiarna leat. Is beannaithe thú idir mná agus is beannaithe toradh do bhruinne losa. A Naomh Mhuire, a mháthair Dé, guí orainn na peacaithe, anois is ar uair ar mbás. Amen.
Pater noster:
Ár n-athair, atá ar neamh: go naofar d'ainm. Go dtaga do riocht. Go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh, mar dhéantar ar neamh. Ár n-arán laethiúl tabhair dúinn inniu, agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha, mar mhaithimid dár bhféichiúnaithe féin. Agus ná lig sinn i gcathú, ach saor sinn ó olc. Óir is leatsa an Ríocht agus an Chumhacht agus an Ghl/oir, tré shaol na saol. Amen.
Today I had the greatest privilege to be present as my mother sang old Irish songs to my father. Some I've never heard before. The young Irish nurse Eileen was there and she came in and stood beside me as tears ran down both our faces. There was evidence of love like you hardly see any more. I seem to be moved to tears all the time recently, but I also feel the Holy Spirit has been very near. Again, Christ bless each one of you for your prayers and your care.
My prayers are with your father as always.
