Steven Seagal made a surprise appearance at Vladimir Putin's inauguration ceremony today. The Hollywood actor, who previously hailed himself "one million per cent" Russian arrived in Moscow for president-elect's Kremlin event taking place today (May 7). Putin begins his fifth term as Russian president today after nearly a quarter-century in office. -snip- Seagal pledged his allegiance to Russia at an event held by International Movement of Russians in Moscow in March last year. During the event, the 'Above The Law' star accused the US of spending "billions of dollars on disinformation, lies" which was an attempt to "try to discredit,...

Is the unchurching of young people behind the strange new rise of antisemitism on campus?

It was a surprise to many that Jew-hatred is big on campuses these days. Explanations are few and far between about where the ugly idea comes from. Is it about a belief that Jews have all the money and political power like the lunatic fringe, the Klan, and LaRouchies claim? Not that anyone but a weirdo (and Rep. Ilhan Omar) would embrace that. Those are the views of freaks. The antisemitism now seen is of a more slippery variety, the kind that claims that Zionism is racism, Israelis are the 'real' Nazis, or Apartheid practitioners, and every bad act of...

Philadelphia 76ers superstar center Joel Embiid went viral Saturday for a video that appeared to show him unable to blink his left eye, Fans speculated en masse about the bizarre video showing his eye and face, and we finally have an answer. It turns out he’s suffering from Bell’s Palsy, he revealed to reporters Thursday night. “I think it started a day or two before the Miami game and I had you know bad migraines and thought it was nothing but usually I don’t like to check it out,” Embiid told reporters following the 76ers‘ playoff win over the New...

Any electrical mavens out there? Strange behavior of air purifier.

My crazy air purifier | 4/25/24 | Me, Myself, & I
I've had an Alen FIT50 air purifier for several years. Lately, it turns itself off when plugged into a given outlet for a few weeks. Plugging it into a different outlet, it starts right back up again and works well for a few weeks. Then it stops again. I've even merely changed it from being plugged into the upper slots, where it stopped working after a few weeks, to the lower slots, where it started working again, in the same outlet. Never saw anything like this before. Does anyone know why this air purifier stops working in a given slot...

ECONOMY Something strange has been happening with jobless claims numbers lately

KEY POINTS Most of the past several weeks have shown that first-time claims for unemployment benefits haven’t fluctuated at all — as in zero. A string of weekly reports showing exactly 212,000 initial claims has raised a few eyebrows on Wall Street. A Labor Department spokesperson noted that while the string of 212,000 prints on the jobless claims data is “uncommon,” it can be attributed to a consistent jobs picture reflected in seasonal adjustments to the data. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Calling the state of the U.S. jobs market these days stable seems like an understatement considering the latest data coming out of...

Uncanny "Adaptive Durability" Makes This Strange New Material Stronger Every Time You Hit It

A team of engineers has invented a remarkable new material that gets stronger after an impact. The material’s creators also say it is electrically conductive, making it an ideal candidate for wearables or other electronics that are subject to repeated stresses and impacts. Rather surprisingly, the inventors of their new material say the unique properties of corn starch, a common food additive, inspired their efforts. “When I stir cornstarch and water slowly, the spoon moves easily,” explains Yue (Jessica) Wang, a materials scientist and the project’s principal investigator. “But if I lift the spoon out and then stab the mixture,...

‘Clearly Overlooked This’: Probe Finds Strange Communication Devices On Chinese Cranes In US Ports

Daily Caller ^ | 3/7/24 | Jake Smith
A congressional investigation has discovered strange communication equipment on Chinese-built cargo cranes at U.S seaports, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. Rather than building them domestically at potentially higher costs, the U.S. relies heavily on Chinese-built cargo cranes that are relatively cheap to produce and equip at seaports across the country. The congressional probe discovered that several of these cranes, built by Chinese mega-manufacturer ZMPC, contain communications devices that were not requested or don’t appear to support standard operations, heightening existing espionage concerns, according to the WSJ. U.S. intelligence has warned that Chinese cranes – equipped with an array...

Astronomers Discover Something Strange About The Oldest 'Dead' Galaxy In The Universe

The Debrief ^ | MARCH 7, 2024 | MJ BANIAS
Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have made a groundbreaking discovery: a galaxy that ceased forming new stars over 13 billion years ago, making it the oldest ‘dead’ galaxy ever observed. The galaxy, which existed a mere 700 million years after the Big Bang, is odd by galactic standards. Now, based on recent findings, it’s also challenging our understanding of early galaxy evolution. In research led by Tobias J. Looser and an international team of astronomers, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has discovered an ancient quiescent galaxy. At a redshift of z=7.3, it is the oldest galaxy...

Strange Events at Fourth Circuit on Second Amendment

Strange events are occurring in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In the Ninth Circuit, it has become clear that when a three-judge panel finds in favor of the Second Amendment as a fundamental part of the Bill of Rights, the case will be sent to an en banc panel to be reversed by the full court. Most of the time, the Ninth Circuit would wait for the three-judge panel to publish their decision before sending the case to the en banc panel. In the Fourth Circuit, en banc panels are snatching cases away from three-judge...

Radio signals from Orion nebula reveal new data about strange celestial objects: 'JuMBOS'

Last year, using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), astronomers made the startling discovery of some free-floating, planetary-mass objects in the Orion nebula that threw their ideas of planet and star formation into doubt. And now, new research has further deepened the mystery around these so-called Jupiter-mass binary objects, or JuMBOs. JuMBOs aren't stars, but aren't really planets either. Mark McCaughrean, senior science advisor at the European Space Agency (ESA), and colleagues originally located the objects in the Orion nebula. This nebula is a star birthing region, also known as Messier 45, and sits around 1,350 light years from Earth....

Ivan Sechin, the son of Russian state-owned oil giant Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, died on February 5 at the age of 35, it has been reported. -snip- The VChK-OGPU outlet, which purports to have inside information from Russian security forces, also reported on Sechin's death. Citing an unnamed source, it said that at approximately 4.30 a.m. on February 5, Sechin "complained that he felt bad and was suffocating." "The man fell on the bed and lost consciousness. Those around him carried Ivan to the floor and tried to provide primary resuscitation measures," the Telegram channel said, adding that an ambulance...

A Strange Election

~For much of my adult life I have been writing about US election years - mainly because the US is the only country that has an "election year", as opposed to the six weeks that Britain and most of the Commonwealth require for an election campaign. But this is quite the weirdest primary season in American history: On the Republican side, a year ago Trump had the support of 45 per cent of GOP voters; now he's at 75 per cent, climbing to eighty. The caucuses and primaries are of less consequence than the indictments. Nevertheless, for Nikki's donors, a...

Victor Davis Hanson: The Strange Disconnect Between Israel and Ukraine

American Greatness ^ | 15 Feb, 2024 | Victor Davis Hanson
Most of Europe, the U.S., and the West understandably supported arming Ukraine to repel Vladimir Putin’s Russian aggression. By contrast, such support for democratic Israel was strangely mixed. The Ukrainian and Israeli wars are similar and yet also different conflicts—but in more ways than we can imagine. Ukraine was invaded by a huge Russian state, with a population three-and-a-half times greater, a gross national product ten times larger, and an area thirty times its size. Hamas, by contrast, is a terrorist clique of about 50,000-70,000 gunmen and terrorist kingpins who run Gaza. It is dwarfed by the Israeli population (20...

In a recent survey of 269 embalmers across four major countries and three continents, more than 70 percent reported finding strange fibrous white blood clots in significant percentages of corpses in 2023 – clots they were not finding pre-pandemic.A similar survey conducted in late 2022 revealed that 66 percent of embalmers began finding the unusual clots in mid-2021, suggesting a temporal link to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, which began earlier that year.In an exclusive interview with The Defender, the creator of the surveys, former Air Force Major Thomas Haviland, said he conceived of the project after he watched the...

Joe Biden offered a one-word response Thursday to a reporter’s question about the annual March for Life event. A reporter asked if Biden had a message to the pro-lifers attending the March for Life, which is set to take place Friday in Washington D.C. “Tomorrow is the March for Life in Washington D.C.,” a reporter said. “I know that,” Biden replied. “What’s your message to those attending?” the reporter continued. “March,” Biden replied. Biden has been a staunch opponent to the pro-life movement throughout his presidency and condemned the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Roe...
