Annie Richardson was knifed as she left an exercise class near Louisiana Tech University on Monday. She was in critical condition at the hospital before she died on Tuesday evening, according to local television station KLAX-TV. Retired Lincoln Parish Judge Cynthia Woodard, Tech grad student Dominique McKane and retired teacher Debbie Hollimon were also stabbed. Louisiana Tech student Jacoby Johnson, 23, was arrested over the attacks and has been charged with second-degree murder and four counts of attempted second-degree murder. Louisiana Tech Police Chief Randal Hermes said authorities were not aware of anything 'that would indicate concerning behavior' for the...

SEWARD — More than two hours before Alaska swimmer Lydia Jacoby’s big race Monday night at the Tokyo Olympics, Susan Willet waited in her car outside the Alaska Railroad terminal. Like a lot of people in Seward, the 64-year-old has watched Jacoby emerge from local kid to a world-class athlete. She swims at the same pool where Jacoby has trained for years, and she wanted to be sure to get a good seat at the community watch party. Hundreds of residents gathered at the terminal to watch Jacoby compete in the 100-meter breaststroke. They streamed inside a little before the...

Seventeen-year-old Lydia Jacoby made history Tuesday in Tokyo by upsetting defending champion Lilly King to earn Olympic gold for the U.S. in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke. Video taken from a watch party at a railroad terminal in her scarcely populated hometown in Seward, Alaska, captured hundreds of people erupting into cheers following her win at the Summer Games. Jacoby was the first swimmer from Alaska to make the U.S. Olympic swimming team. She was shown the video of the fans in Seward and called their support "amazing." "A lot of big-name swimmers come from big, powerhouse clubs,'' Jacoby said, according...

Jacoby Ellsbury’s lack of playing time during the postseason certainly didn’t go unnoticed by Scott Boras. “I do know this, Jacoby is a player you want to be out there in the postseason,’’ Ellsbury’s agent told The Post on Monday, two days after the Yankees lost Game 7 of the ALCS to the Astros in Houston. Boras pointed to the 34-year-old Ellsbury’s postseason performances and that the left-handed hitting outfielder helped the Red Sox win World Series titles in 2007 and 2013.

Tuesday night was a big night for 24-year-old minor league third baseman JaCoby Jones. Well, I should call him a former minor league third baseman. Because on Tuesday night he made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers, and he had a great game. He did what every minor leaguer hopes to do in their first big league game: he got his very first MLB hit. And that’s not all — he got his first RBI as well. Not just one, but two! It was the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Tigers were tied 3-3 with the...

(snip).... "Election polling is in near crisis," broods Cliff Zukin, a past president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. "Our old paradigm has broken down, and we haven't figured out how to replace it." The reason? In a word, cellphones. For decades, professional opinion polling has relied on the ability to call landline phone numbers generated at random and be fairly confident of reaching an adult at the other end. But the explosive growth in cellphone use over the past two decades has fatally undermined that confidence. Today, according to federal data, more than 45 percent of American...
