  • Whither Roe? Specter: Alito supports privacy "penumbras" of Griswold.

Griswold, huh? He agrees there's a right to privacy and he even agrees with Roe! He says he only disputes "undue burdens" imposed on women - nothing about the unborn or the beginning of life. And this is better than Miers how?

If it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for his Cheif of Staff, the Veep's aides, and the Speaker of the House. Clinton, Delay, Rove, Scooter...

"It's not the crime, it's the cover-up." You'd think politicians would learn. But they never do.

Indictments? There's still an investigation going on. Bush said so this morning - that's the only reason Karl still has a job.

A breach of security was made by Rove or someone working with him. Agents who risked their lives for the country were abused and thrown aside for crass politics. This is a dark day, when simpering MSM gadflies are more worried about their illusory privileges than about the safety of our most valuable intelligence assets.

"Except for one thing - Plame was not undercover."

From Mr. Gertz in today's Wash Times:
"Mrs. Plame was a "nonofficial covert" CIA officer, although U.S. intelligence officials say her identity was compromised twice before columnist Robert Novak identified her in a piece about Mr. Wilson."

Again - if her identity was no long secret, why was she still considered a NOC? Burning her cover was WRONG.

    Traitors.

"And why isn't he in jail?"

Because Novak was not cleared to know about Plame's status, and so is not liable. In this case, the leakee is not the criminal, although publishing was an ethical lapse of stomach-churning proportions. The leakers, on the other hand...

    Traitors.

"Bull. She was an analyst, not a field agent. She was reportedly compromised while in the field by Aldrich Ames, so she had to move to desk work at Langley.

    Not Undercover == No Crime."

    Duh...

    1. The CIA asked DOJ to open a criminal investigation.
    2. If Plame was not undercover, no crime was committed.
    3. Presumably, the CIA would know if one of their employees was undercover.

    4. Ergo, Plame was still undercover. QED

Here I thought the root of the scandal was when the White House exposed a NOC just to play hard ball with her husband.

"Joe Wilson, "I was sent on a special mission to Niger by Vice President Dick Cheney." "

Lie. Wilson has stated publically that Cheney did NOT know of his trip.

The Senate Committee Report also stated that Wilson reached exactly the same conclusion as the US Ambassador to Niger.

""whom the CIA sent on a brief trip to Niger in February 2002."
That is an outright lie! Wilson's wife sent him to Niger in an attempt to undermine President Bush!"

Odd - since Wilson's wife worked for the CIA and recommended him for the trip to her superiors. Of course, Plame didn't have the authority to send WIlson herself - the decision was made by HER SUPERIORS - i.e., by the CIA. SO you are, in fact, WRONG.

Don't forget the real facts here:

For partisan political reasons, Karl Rove and/or other senior White House personnel KNOWINGLY exposed a NOC. They exposed one of the deepest cover agents the US has - just to play "hard ball" with a critic. They blew her cover - and possibly the cover of other agents as well (she might not be the only one at the same fake 'front' firm).

It's illegal - and it ought to be treason.

"In CIA-talk "operative" could infer that she was employed by the "Operations" branch and those are the real spy-guys at the Agency."

Except Lexis demonstrates that Novak has ONLY used the word "operative" when he is describing people he KNOWS are intelligence agents. He has NEVER used the phrase "political operative." He knew exactly who and what Plame was.

There's a reason that at least five other journalists contacted by Rove (or whoever) all DECLINED to publish the information: because publication was legally, morally, and ethically WRONG. But Novak published...

Novak burned a NOC. He also exposed her cover firm as a front - endangering any other agents who ever used that cover.

    Damn traitor.

What a terrible collection of junk...

McKintyre and McKittrick have been publicly proven wrong by several independent researchers. They have been unable to retreive their analysis - and the "Hockey Stick" has been confirmed several times over.

Soon and Ballunias' work has been discredited.

Fred Singer is simply not credible: he's taken too much oil and coal money.

Lomborg has been publically censured by the Danish Academy of Sciences for his poor methodology and misleading/deceptive use of science.

Refuse to believe it if you like but the science is only going one direction on this issue, despite the well-paid tools of the carbon industry. Anyone interested in the *real* science should visit RealClimate.org for the answers.

The Earth IS warming. It's not as bad as the anti-car birkenstock bike fascists claim, but its still worse than your list of dubious sources would cause one to believe.

    Article says:

"the jury found that the couple's heavy smoking violated a more general clause banning 'any nuisance; any offensive noise, odor or fumes; or any hazard to health.' "

The smoke and odor were invading the neighboring apartments. When I rent an apartment I like it to be free of my neighbors' noxious odors. It's like loud music or other noises: you can make noise, but not so much that you disturb the neighbors. These smokers could smoke, but not so much that they disturb the neighbors.

The use of "purpose" in the article is a recognized shorthand for a more complex argument about the likelihood of certain forms appearing or not appearing. It does not imply agency.

Any free-marketer understands this. The invisible hand of the economy is not a real invisible hand, it is merely an abstration to describe how the behavior of millions of disparate, self-interested agents can create ordered systems from their own separate actions. The market is not God, and the fact that some companies thrive and others fail, that some industries rise and others fall, is not a reflection that God has made a choice. The "invisible hand" of natural selection is no different. God chooses species no more than he chooses buggy whips and widgets.

Anti-communists in the 50's wanted it done. The idea was that pledging to God (understood by all concerned to be the Christian God) would prove our moral superiority over the godless commies.
