WHOSE COMPUTER IS IT, ANYWAY??

I am getting pretty upset.
Every time I contact the Internet some unknown third party is altering my Master Boot Record and changing the Partition Tables on my computer.
My computer is in my home, and it is personal property.
As such, my computer and what it contains is under the protection of the U.S. Constitution, and may not be altered or accessed without a warrant.
Please do not REMOVE this message, as it pertains DIRECTLY to "Freedom".
Has anyone else among the Freeper community picked up on this?
If so, what are we going to "do" about it??

I guess this pertains to freedom if you think the government is messing with your PC.
Sounds to me like you may have a trojan on your box.

Get blackice or some similar personal firewall program and try posting some real info instead of advertising your computer illiteracy!

ZoneAlert and Norton Antivirus software might help after you have cleaned-up your system.

Check to make sure that your neighbor isn't opening/closing his garage door.

I know how to fix it.
Go up to your attic and get the box the computer came in. Pack it up and bring it back to the store where you bought it.
Tell them you are too stupid to own a computer.
They'll understand.

It's called Earthlink - your ISP.
Go to GRC.COM and check out the analysis of their software.

Hey! Me too! I had serious trouble getting back on-line tonight. I had to shut down twice but not before I was prompted to re-enter my password (which was on automatic and never touched until today) which I refused to do (hello trojan horse). Who the hell is trying to get in my house? This is a big deal. I use macafee.com and I have confirmed that I am virus free. Who the hell is ****ing with me?

You probably have a trojan horse or a virus.
If it's a trojan, that's extremely bad. Your entire system is compromised.
Until you know for sure, I would suggest physicially disconnecting your computer from the Internet, unless you want to take chance on offering up the content of your hard drive to the rest of the world.
Also, you might want to go here for a primer on computer security.

You must be pretty important to have someone watching for you to dial in and then launching this very sophisticated attack.
Be very careful when turning on your TV, as they might change your cable lineup too.

To all you guys who responded.
I was trained on the first IBM transistor main frame. So, I know a littel bit about the computer from the accumulator register on up.
I have everything in place you have suggested, including Zone Alarm etc. Anyone wants a list of who probed my computer and when just ask. ( 63.222.195.2 (TCP Port 2764) [TCP Flags: S] just di, for instance)
I am serious, people.
We need our congress to pass a law that anyone who tampers with the MBR on a personal computer goes to jail.
If you do not control and lock your MBR (cantact me if you what to know how) you will lose your machine to "remote administration".
At this point I love viruses and trojan horses because they provide amusement and are easy to handle, comparatively.
However, this one is not any of that, and can onlyu be corrected if you rstore your MBR after every internet contact.
WAKE UP, people.

If some third party is altering your boot sector, YOU MIGHT HAVE A VIRUS!!!!!!
Please get McAfee Anti Virus or Norton Anti Virus (I have Norton) and SCAN YOUR PC!!!

Just using Mcfee virus software doesn't mean anything unless you have the latest .dat files. You might have a virus that mcfee isn't finding because your dat files are too old. The latest version as of last week is 4160.
Use your file browser, search for a file named dat*. It should be a zip file, and will have the version number there.

If so, what are we going to "do" about it? Um, format your hard drive?
Just kidding! Sounds like a Trojan Horse. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your firewall, or changing the settings?
Good Luck!
