As the sheriff of Lincoln County, W.Va., Jerry Bowman is sworn to uphold the law. But the 58-year-old law enforcement veteran stood in a federal courtroom in Charleston on Wednesday and pleaded guilty in a shocking voter fraud case that has stripped him of his job and could send him to prison for a decade. Prosecutors say Bowman and former Lincoln County Clerk Donald Whitten, 62, were part of a scheme to steal the May 2010 Democratic primary by stuffing ballot boxes with illegal absentee ballots. Bowman admitted to falsifying more than 100 of the absentee ballot applications and even...

New pictures of the China's J-20 Mighty Dragon stealth fighter have surfaced and are making their way across military blogs. This newest round of photos show the J-20 in the skies somewhere over mainland China. The prototype is said to be using the Saturn AL-31 turbofan engine developed by the Russian's for their Su-27 air superiority fighter. Reuben Johnson at The Washington Times reports the Chinese may be as much as 10 years away from producing an original stealth engine to slip into the J-20. In the meantime, they'll have to take comfort in the fact that while the F-22...

Traffic jam: 2012 presidential campaigns test drive car ads in search for votersBy Geneva Sands - 03/10/12 01:35 PM ET Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has taken a cue from Detroit in trying to win over voters through the all-American love affair with the car. Romney has released at least ten campaign videos that feature cars, including three that show the former Massachusetts governor behind the wheel. He’s not alone, either. President Obama’s campaign showcased classic and modern cars in an ad last month that touted Obama’s support of the auto industry, one of the White House’s chief talking points for...

Despite reports of high-level defections of government and military officials, U.S. intelligence sees no signs of significant deterioration of support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by his inner circle, senior U.S. intelligence officials said Friday. Read also: U.N. envoy to meet with Syria's president The officials, who would speak only on the condition that their names not be used, said that to date, the defections have been of lower-level officials and those in the military. None of those defections, including the group of military officers who are reported to have defected this week, are close enough to al-Assad to truly...

A group calling itself "The Women of the 99 Percent" is making robocalls across the United States in an attempt to link Republican members of the House of Representatives to "the war on women led by Rush Limbaugh". The automated calls are illegal because they do not state who they are from (there is no known group called The Women of the 99 Percent) or provide a callback number, as required under the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. ...snip... Telephone calls and emails to the DCCC and the Democratic National Committee asking whether either organisation was connected to...

There’s a case for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes, but what about LSD? A new report released Friday suggests LSD can be used to treat alcoholism. LSD can prevent patients from relapsing during alcohol abuse treatment, researchers from Norwegian University of Science and Technology found. “A single dose of LSD has a significant beneficial effect on alcohol misuse,” the researchers wrote. The study was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology. “LSD worked in an entirely different way than any current psychiatric drugs,” Teri Krebs, researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. “Many patients said they had gained a...

In Roman mythology, the master of the hunt was the goddess Diana. She was praised for her strength, athletic grace, beauty, and hunting skills. In Freemasonry, she was a symbol of sensibility and imagination, of poets and artists. Shrines were erected in her honor; stags followed her wherever she went; she ruled the forest and the moon. I like to think that Diana’s influence has never entirely waned, that hunting was never just about men getting together in the woods. Hunting is for all of us, an extension of our being both humans and animals—our first work and craft, one...

Maintainers with the 33rd Fighter Wing have determined that three loose fasteners caused the small fuel leak during the F-35’s first mission flight Tuesday. The wing’s first F-35A Joint Strike Fighter took off at 10:07 a.m. for what was supposed to be a 90-minute flight. The sortie was cut short to roughly 20 minutes when the pilot of an F-16 acting as a chase plane spotted what appeared to a small fuel leak on the F-35. Maintainers with the 33rd Fighter Wing conducted an extensive review of the jet and determined three slightly loose fasteners allowed a small amount of...

Healthcare issue will be a heavy lift for Romney against ObamaBy Sam Baker - 03/10/12 02:00 PM ET As Mitt Romney moves closer to locking up the Republican presidential nomination, the questions about his ability to attack President Obama on healthcare are only getting louder. Conservatives have long been uneasy with Romney’s record on healthcare. But as an Obama-Romney matchup becomes increasingly likely, so does the prospect that Republicans won’t be able to aggressively campaign against a law that helped propel their historic wins in 2010 — and hasn’t gotten much more popular since. “I think as an attack against...

A two-and-a-half-hour drive couldn’t separate Patricia Tayman from Newt Gingrich’s rally in Dothan. The Pensacola, Fla., resident left Sunday’s event with a smile on her face, confident Gingrich is the right man to lead the country in the years to come. “I’m psyched, and I’m just praying he can pull it off in Mississippi and Alabama and get back ahead of things,” she said. “I’ve watched the different debates, and after seeing him in person, I’m behind him 100 percent now.” Enterprise resident Tracy Bullinger said her trip to the Circle City was worth it as well. “I did not...

The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “O Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! This...

Talking heads, bloggers and pundits who repeat the cop-out falsehood that “Obama is in over his head” are leading the masses astray and lulling them back to sleep. Count the number of times you’re hearing or reading daily that “Obama is in over his head”. Obama is not in over his head, he’s over their heads and therefore over some of the heads of the badly misinformed We the People. Barack Hussein Obama is no accident. He’s the slick and well-trained lead Agent of Change, handpicked by the far left to force Free World leader America into a socialist state....

Often, when Mormons are presented with statements from their leaders that could cause some difficulty for them, many will respond by saying something like "Oh, that's just his opinion. Its not the official view of the Mormon Church." Often, when Mormons talk about official doctrines of the Church they usually mean the Standard Works: The Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrines and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. Although many Mormons do not view other LDS writings as official Scripture (for example, The Seer or The Journal of Discourses), it should be remembered that many of these writings consist of the...

Christians do not have a right to wear a cross or crucifix openly at work, the Government is to argue in a landmark court case.In a highly significant move, ministers will fight a case at the European Court of Human Rights in which two British women will seek to establish their right to display the cross. It is the first time that the Government has been forced to state whether it backs the right of Christians to wear the symbol at work. A document seen by The Sunday Telegraph discloses that ministers will argue that because it is not a...
