MGM Resorts International has agreed to pay up to $800 million to settle lawsuits from victims of the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead and hundreds of others injured. The killer, Stephen Paddock, holed up inside his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, which MGM owns, and then fired into the crowd at a country music festival below. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

When the FBI released its 2018 Crime Statistics on Monday, the silence from the anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment mainstream media was deafening. The Washington Post and the New York Times gave the report short shrift, while the Wall Street Journal ignored it altogether. Apparently the mainstream media isn’t interested in listening to facts and data that contradict their preconceived ideology: More guns equal more gun violence. According to the FBI, exactly the opposite is happening, and has been happening for years: The number of violent crimes committed in the United States continues to drop. Said the report, “In 2018, violent crime...

Does this sound like a healthy economy to you? * In nine of the last 10 years, the economy has grown more slowly than professional forecasters had predicted. * Annual G.D.P. growth has not reached 3 percent in almost 15 years. * Median net worth for American households has declined, after adjusting for inflation, since the late 1990s. Those are all big warning signs. They show that the United States is suffering through an era of slow growth — and that the gains from that growth are flowing disproportionately to a small slice of mostly affluent households, making the gains...
  • Extinction Rebellion 'lose control of fake blood hose'

Climate change activists' plan to spray fake blood on the Treasury did not get off to the best start. Extinction Rebellion protesters used a hose from an old fire engine to spray 1,800 litres liquid at the 100 year-old building, but they quickly lost control of the powerful water jet. Protesters say they are "highlighting the inconsistency between the UK government’s insistence that the UK is a world leader in tackling climate breakdown, and the vast sums it pours into fossil fuel exploration". The Met Police said five men and three women had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out how one its vehicles ended up empty in a ditch nearly 2 hours away. A Burnett County deputy found it outside of Spooner over the weekend. The SUV was discovered off to the side of County Road G in Rusk Township. On Saturday night, a deputy from Burnett County, Wisconsin happened upon the abandoned vehicle. After checking the plates, the deputy realized it wasn't just any vehicle, it was registered to Hennepin County and assigned to a law enforcement officer. Sources confirmed it's Major Bob Staupe, a member of the...

Brexit is now hanging in the balance after the U.K. government submitted last-ditch proposals to the EU as the departure date of October 31 fast approaches. The proposals involved new plans to get around the so-far intractable issue of the Irish “backstop” designed to prevent a hard border on the island of Ireland. The new proposals would see would see Northern Ireland (a part of the U.K.) stay in the European single market for goods but leave the customs union. This would mean customs checks would take place but these would be away from the border, according to the U.K....
  • Benjamin Netanyahu accepts idea of ‘interim’ PM if indicted in office

Benjamin Netanyahu has accepted a proposal that he should be stripped of his powers as prime minister if indicted for criminal misconduct while in office, as a long-running probe heads towards a probable indictment. The acceptance of the proposal, first mooted by Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin, came as Mr Netanyahu’s lawyers huddled with prosecutors to ward off prosecution on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. The largely procedural hearing is the last step before Avichai Mandelblit, the attorney-general, would announce charges against the four-time premier, now expected around mid-December. The suggestion for how to deal with a possible...

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos touted his exclusive interview with Nancy Pelosi on Thursday’s Good Morning America, which was largely friendly to the Democrat House Speaker. In the lengthy aired interview, Stephanopoulos pushed Pelosi to make her impeachment case “more airtight” and eagerly wondered if impeachment “was inevitable.” “She is leading the battle for the House Democrats, she's all in,” Stephanopoulos praised Pelosi to start the segment. After asking about Trump’s criticism of her, she snarked that Trump was just “scared,” which led Stephanopoulos to gush, “Did you hear the fear in his voice when you spoke with him on the phone...

Robert De Niro routinely subjected his longtime employee to creepy and abusive behavior, including leaving her voicemails threatening “you’re f—ing history” and calling her a “bitch” and a “brat,” an explosive new lawsuit charges. Graham Chase Robinson says for years she was the victim of “gratuitous unwanted physical contact” from the Oscar winner, who also hurled “sexually-charged comments to her” when she worked at his production company, Canal Productions Inc. Robinson’s allegations against the “Taxi Driver” star are levied in a $12 million lawsuit filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court for gender discrimination and wage violations. She said she began...

It takes a fair bit of digging into this Daily Beast article to get to Adam Schiff’s attempt to backpedal from being caught in a series of prevarications. The article’s headline emphasizes that Donald Trump had decided to “take a hatchet to Adam Schiff,” and talks about Trump’s strategy to make the House Intel chair the issue. However, Schiff’s admission that he’d taken a hatchet to the truth first only emerges in the eighth paragraph, despite being an apparent exclusive for TDB: Schiff had previously denied that his staff had contact with the whistleblower before the complaint was flagged...

“To put it another way, yesterday’s announcement was the first time since covering the stock that we found ourselves wondering whether demand growth for (Tesla’s) cars might be leveling off,” said the analysts, who were led by Joseph Osha. Analysts at Cowen, who kept their equivalent of a sell rating on the stock, went further, saying that Tesla’s year-on-year “growth story” likely has ended.

Look, you might think the teams in your town stink. And there’s a good chance you might even be right. It’s much easier to disappoint a fanbase than please one, so odds are good you have jerseys of a few bad teams hanging in your closet right now. But do me a favor: The next time you get down about another missed playoff spot or mourn a choked-away game, look up to the sky and thank heavens for just one thing. That you’re not a fan of Miami sports teams. Because, man, do they really stink. And if you actually...

The surge of migrants claiming asylum at the border has resulted in a massive backlog of cases for the nation’s immigration courts. Syracuse University, which tracks active cases, announced two weeks ago that the number had surpassed one million. And that total does not include over 300,000 pending cases which have not been added yet: “The latest case-by-case court records through the end of August 2019 show the court’s active case backlog was 1,007,155,” according to the clearinghouse’s report released Wednesday. “If the additional 322,535 cases which the court says are pending but have not been placed on the...

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., sent a letter on Thursday to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., calling on her to suspend the impeachment inquiry into President Trump until “equitable rules and procedures” are set up. Coming amid concerns by GOP lawmakers that they will be sidelined or shut out of the impeachment inquiry into Trump, McCarthy criticized Pelosi for the “swiftness and recklessness” which House committee chairs have proceeded with the impeachment inquiry and pleaded with the House Speaker to ensure Republican participation in the proceedings.

Week Million and Five of Impeachmentpalooza rolls on toward either Socialist Hell Armageddon or a landslide victory for President Trump -- there isn't much middle ground to be found anywhere these days, after all. To the surprise of no one, the president isn't just rolling over and letting the waves of negativity wash over him, awaiting his fate. The press remains eternally indignant about the fact that Trump refuses to just shut up and go away already:CNN quote: When President Donald Trump erupted in rage during two appearances Wednesday, it foreshadowed a dark and unsettled impeachment season ahead.
