Police marksmen called to save a two-year-old child from the jaws of a bull mastiff had to pump 17 bullets into the dog before it would die. The animal had already been stabbed four times with a bread knife by its owner in a desperate effort to make it drop his son. When police marksmen arrived, they initially fired a 50,000-volt Taser gun in a vain attempt to stop the frenzied attack by three-year-old family pet Mitch. They then emptied the entire clip of a Glock 17, 9mm pistol into the dog before it finally collapsed and died. "They fired...

One evening I thought about building a Beretta 9mm pistol. It has always been the handgun for me so, on a whim, I decided to see what I could come up with. Without hitting the web for pictures, I threw one together in about 2 hours, using only memories from movies, video games and my friend's Series 92 for reference. Since then the model has been refined and includes apartial, functional firing mechanism. Just like my Lego Beretta 9mm, this model is meant to be an exercise in form, with the inclusion of working mechanical systems. It doesn't shoot, it...

Ronald Honeycutt didn't hesitate. The Pizza Hut driver had just finished dropping off a delivery when a man holding a gun approached him. Honeycutt wasn't about to become another robbery statistic. He grabbed the 9 mm handgun he always carries in his belt and shot the man more than 10 times, killing him. Honeycutt faced no criminal charges, because prosecutors decided that he acted in self-defense. But the 39-year-old did lose his job: Carrying a gun violated Pizza Hut's no-weapons rule. "It's not fair," says Honeycutt of Carmel, Ind., who has found another pizza-delivery job and continues to carry a...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, who disappeared in Iraq in June and later turned up in Lebanon claiming he had been kidnapped by militants, was charged on Thursday with desertion, the Marine Corps said. After a five-month investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Hassoun "is alleged to have taken unauthorized leave of the unit where he served as an Arabic interpreter," the service said in a release from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Hassoun was also charged with loss of government property and theft of a 9mm military pistol. The charges will now be considered by...

Conditions are now ripe for the U.S. Supreme Court, which has not dealt with gun control issues since 1939 (and then rather cryptically), to resolve whether the Second Amendment confers an individual right to bear arms or a collective right that can be exercised mainly by members of an organized militia.

FReepers, I went and checked out 9mm handguns today. I was looking at the Glock 9mm (mid-size), but was impressed with the Beretta 9mm. The Glock was light, felt like plastic (or carbon)...what is that material? The Beretta instantly felt better in my hand (heavier, all metal, etc.) I am looking for opinions as to which gun is the better of the two. Also, the reasons for your opinions. In any case, I'm looking at the 9mm as a personal protection handgun. As always, your comments mean a lot to me. Thanks.
