Hate preacher Abu Qatada has moved into an £800,000 home funded by the taxpayer following his release from jail. New neighbours of the cleric once described as Osama bin Laden’s right-hand in Europe said: “He could not be less welcome.” One resident, who served in the Navy during the Gulf War, said: “The fact that he is in my country, let alone around my neighbourhood, makes me mad. We are losing men in Afghanistan and now this man is allowed to live here.” Qatada arrived at the house in London on Tuesday after a court granted him bail. He is...

Suspected Al Qaeda leader Abu Qatada is celebrating his release from prison with the release of a book in which he urges Muslims to commit terrorist attacks in the West. In the 71-page tract, published in English translation on the internet, he repeatedly claims that fighting jihad, holy war, is obligatory for all Muslims and urges them to 'terrorise' non-believers. Security sources say his clear incitement to violence makes a mockery of the decision to set him free. The preacher of hate, who has been described as Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe, was released on bail from Long...

U.S. Wary Of Small Boat Terrorism As boating season approaches, the Bush administration wants to enlist America's 80 million recreational boaters to help reduce the chances that a small boat could deliver a nuclear or radiological bomb somewhere along the 95,000 miles of U.S. coastline and inland waterways. According to an April 23 intelligence assessment obtained by The Associated Press, "The use of a small boat as a weapon is likely to remain al Qaeda's weapon of choice in the maritime environment, given its ease in arming and deploying, low cost, and record of success." While the United States...

An extremist Muslim cleric regarded as "Osama bin Laden's spiritual ambassador in Europe" must be released on bail, a judge ruled today. Abu Qatada, 48, who won his legal fight against deportation to Jordan last month, will be freed from prison under strict bail conditions amounting to 22-hour house arrest despite the fact that he is still deemed to be a threat to national security. The cleric applied to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) for bail on the grounds that it was inhumane to detain him indefinitely if there was no prospect of his being deported. The order to...

A former teacher at an Islamic school, who alleged that it taught an offensive and racist view of non-Muslims, has been awarded £70,000 by an employment tribunal after winning his case for unfair dismissal. Colin Cook told the tribunal in Watford that pupils were taught from Arabic books that likened Jews and Christians to “monkeys” and “pigs” at The King Fahad Academy, which is funded and run by the Saudi Arabian Government. The tribunal ruled that Mr Cook, a British Muslim, was unfairly dismissed from his £36,000-a-year post at the school in Acton, West London, in December 2006 after blowing...

Bin Laden's 'right-hand man' set for life on British benefits after judges rule deportation would breach his human rights Terror suspect Abu Qatada cannot be deported to Jordan because he risks not getting a fair trial, judges ruled today. They overturned a decision by a special panel last year that the extremist cleric, who is known as Osama bin Laden's “right-hand man” in Europe, could be sent to his home country. The Home Office may even have to free Qatada if the Law Lords and European judges uphold the decision of the Court of Appeal and he cannot be brought...

Extremist cleric's release from UK prison to come 6 months after hostage's release. In exchange for the release of BBC reporter Alan Johnston, Britain told the Hamas terror group through mediators it would free from jail an extremist sheik accused of serving as al-Qaida's spiritual adviser in Europe, Palestinian sources involved in the negotiations claimed to WND. The sheik, Abu Qatada, is accused among other things of advising 9/11 terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui and attempted shoe-bomber Richard Reid. Qatada's sermons were found among the possessions of 9/11 operational leader Mohamed Atta. The Palestinian sources involved in the Johnston negotiations claimed the...

The Government has won a landmark legal battle to deport terror suspects after a court ruled that a hardline Islamic cleric believed to have close links to al-Qaeda should be deported to Jordan. The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) dismissed an appeal by the radical Muslim preacher Abu Qatada against the Government’s bid to send him back to his native country. The case of Qatada, who came to Britain in 1993, was a key test of British efforts to allow deportations to countries accused of torture by securing special agreements that deportees will not be ill treated. The ruling was...

ONE of al-Qaeda’s most dangerous figures has been revealed as a double agent working for MI5, raising criticism from European governments, which repeatedly called for his arrest. Britain ignored warnings — which began before the September 11 attacks — from half a dozen friendly governments about Abu Qatada’s links with terrorist groups and refused to arrest him. Intelligence chiefs hid from European allies their intention to use the cleric as a key informer against Islamic militants in Britain. Abu Qatada boasted to MI5 that he could prevent terrorist attacks and offered to expose dangerous extremists, while all along he was...

The Jordanian interior minister has said British authorities would deport Muslim cleric Abu Qatada to Jordan, where he will face new trials on charges of conspiracy and terrorist bombings for which he was found guilty in absentia. Awni Yirfas, the minister, told state television on Friday night that Britain had verbally informed authorities in Amman that the cleric "will be sent back to Jordan next week". Abu Qatada would be "retried under a Jordanian law which allows persons convicted and sentenced in absentia the right to retrial once captured," Yirfas said. The countries signed an extradition agreement earlier this week....

We Ignore 'Trinity of Terror' at Our Peril By Tom Knowlton While we have brought the full weight of American military might against the operational forces of Islamic terrorism, the spiritual architects of Islamic extremism continue unimpeded to recruit, train and finance a new generation of terrorists. The most egregious of these "spiritual leaders" are the infamous "Trinity of Terror" residing in London, England; Abu Qatada, Omar Bakri Muhammad, and Abu Hamza al-Masri. Abu Qatada, a Palestinian refuge living in London, has been linked to the planning and funding of terrorism in Jordan, France, Spain and Italy. European counter-terrorism and...
