  • Erin Andrews awarded $55 million in Marriott lawsuit

A jury awarded $55 million to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews in her lawsuit against a Nashville Marriott hotel on Monday. Andrews sued the hotel alleging it acted negligently when allowing a man who was stalking her to book the room next to hers and surreptitiously film nude videos of her in 2008 while she worked for ESPN. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, posted the videos online and pleaded guilty to stalking charges, for which he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

A reporter is under fire for texting during the National Anthem and refusing to apologize. Helena Andrews, who writes the Reliable Source gossip column for The Washington Post, was caught on video using her cell phone as the "Star Spangled Banner" played Saturday at the 2015 White House Correspondents dinner. Andrews appeared to be typing with her head down, glued to her smartphone's screen, while other attendees stood solemnly with their hands over their hearts until the patriotic song finished.... Andrews, Texas, has become a focus of activism for the restoration of the right to openly carry sidearms.  Historically, the right was lost in the rewriting of the Texas Constitution in 1871 by the reconstruction government.    After the reconstruction government was voted out, then driven from office by an impromptu militia, the Texas Constitution was rewritten again, but a loophole was left in that allowed the wearing of sidearms to be regulated.  The reconstruction law was never repealed, so the current Texas Constitution only protects the carrying of long arms such as rifles and shotguns.  Definitions in the law do...

Enough is enough. Last week, a Washington watchdog group named Andrews, the 11-term congressman from New Jersey’s 1st District, as one of the 12 “most corrupt” members of Congress. In its annual report on ethical challenges among members of the House and Senate, the non-partisan Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) ranked Andrews, a Democrat, near the bottom of all 535 senators and House members. The CREW listing is just a reminder of how embattled Andrews has become.
